They have so many unique and creative rolls, and everything we've tried has been consistently delicious. To start, just a couple points to make your life a little easier. This restaurant is in the river city marketplace, which can get quite busy on weekends. On the plus side, they do take reservations, which many hibachi restaurants do not. Regarding the restaurant itself, the ambiance was decent. That said, staff was all extremely friendly and helpful. Hibachi chefs, from what I noticed, all were putting on great shows and displayed great personality and fun while cooking. Overall I'd say food quality was good, but not mind blowing.. but like I said, still pretty good. Portions are wild though... so you can skip the rest of your meals that day. Walking into the restaurant was full of confusion. I felt not heard or understood. We were there for a party & they kept trying to separate us from them by putting us in the dining area not hibachi area. I said a few times we were with the party but they kept insisting to sit at dining. Once we were seated finally - it was still confusion as if waiter couldn't understand me & vise versa. Just was overwhelming! Food was okay. My family agreed we've had better. What made the experience better was looking over seeing a family being treated extremely well by the chef at hibachi grill. This was our first time at this restaurant. Upon being seated at the edge of one of the teppanyaki tables, a server immediately rushed over with two bowls of clear soup. Well - that was fast! I hadn't even gotten a chance to review the menu or give other patrons the opportunity to be sat with us. After taking a look at the offerings, my husband and I made our beverage selections. I had to repeat my multiple times as the server did not seem to understand the cocktail I had selected from the menu. We then ordered our hibachi steak entrees, which as per the menu included soup, salad, rice, 2 pc shrimp, and vegetables (carrot, onion, mushroom, broccoli, zucchini). It is common practice for me to eat my husband's vegetables and he eats my shrimp, so we were happy to see that shrimp were part of the menu. Our chef came to the table and verified our orders and started the show. Yet, we were still the only two at the table. Three other parties were soon seated at another table behind us. Our chef asked if we had wanted to move our seats to the front of the table. Well, sure... but that was awkward. Our rice was started, the jokes were flowing, and the eggs rolled. Pretty much standard hibachi fare. However, though we asked for no mushrooms in our vegetables, there was no zucchini either. I thought maybe they were out - until I saw other tables had it. Our rice, veggies, and steaks were cooked and served and then the chef began to clean the table. I didn't say anything to the chef as we were the only ones at the table and this was our first time at the venue... I know sometimes menus are not updated and options change. Until we began to leave - two other (full) tables were offered both 2pc shrimp and zucchini. I felt not only sequestered, but my husband was shorted on his meal. I visited Fujiyama on 1/2/2024 around 4:30 PM and ordered chicken and shrimp hibachi with a dynamite fried sushi roll. I also ordered the same for my sister, so I had to wait a few extra minutes, which was fine. I got back home around 5 and started eating. I didn't finish my food and left some. About an hour later, I began to cramp, which I didn't think much of because I am pregnant. Later that night, the cramping worsened at 9 PM. I brushed it off and tried to go to sleep, but by 2 AM the cramping became severe and my stomach started burning. It woke me from my sleep. I knew something was wrong, so I went to the emergency room. They did an ultrasound and urine test and confirmed the pain was not pregnancy-related. I had food poisoning. I had been suffering since 9 PM and still am, crying in pain. My sister was also dealing with severe stomach pain. I called the restaurant to report what happened, and they said I had to have the food to get a refund. Luckily, I still had my portion that I barely ate. Unfortunately, my sister had thrown hers away, though she took pictures of it in the trash, which did not matter to the worker. When I brought my food in, the worker asked what happened. I explained I had to go to the hospital after eating the food and that my sister had the same symptoms. I told her I have it worse because I am pregnant. She opened my food and said I had eaten some, which I confirmed. That's how you get food poisoning--by eating the food. She then said she couldn't give me a full refund and would only give me $20. I accepted, but she continued, saying they were very busy and I was the only one who complained. I explained my sister was also sick from their food, and everyone's body reacts differently. She then said she had been there for years and I was the first to complain about food poisoning. I wouldn't lie, and I told her how much I paid. She gave me $20 and I left. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of empathy, disrespect, and implication that I was lying is unacceptable. A business should treat customers with concern, especially when someone is pregnant and has food poisoning. I cannot recommend Fujiyama based on this experience. read more

I decided to check Fujiyama Hibachi for my birthday with some friends since I was on this side of town. We went during a pretty busy time but served quickly if anything too quickly. This is the only time I would complain about quick service since I decided to go to Hibachi for the experience and to spend some time with my friends. We were given a table that had 3 other families there (since I only had 3 friends and we couldn't take a whole hibachi side of the grill). They took our orders and gave us soup as soon as we sat down. Everything felt rushed. The hibachi chef cooked within 10 minutes and left and we had our bills served before I took a third bite of my food when the chef left. Overall the experience was rushed and I didn't really get to enjoy the food. They served us to go boxes as as soon as the chef left and I got my bill. I ended up taking most my food home to microwave. As soon as we stood up the did the same to the next table with their quick service. The food overall was ok. I just thought the portions were smaller than other places I have been to. The chef was super nice and had some cool tricks. Went here tonight and order the steak and shrimp hibachi. I requested my steak medium rare. Apparently the cooks in the back don't know how to cook a medium rare steak. Just like another post from customer DA the brought back my same plate and added more rice. We advise our waiter and he advised us he told the cooks that a stared at us . So with dead silence he got the manager and we told her the steak was fully cooked and cold as the shrimp since well he'll it's the original dish ..she came back from the kitchen and said the cooks advised if we medium rare it will come back cold!!...WTH!!...at that point I walked out..I'm done with this place. I've had fantastic experiences with family here several times, most recently on Christmas Day. We got a great combination of well-made and well-seasoned food with attentive servers and a fantastic, engaging table chef. Our table -- with a call-ahead reservation -- for 13 was ready on time, although a slightly tight fit with only a small table added to squeeze us in around the grill. That was the closest thing I have to a negative, though. Their clear soup had some of the most flavorful broth I've had, and their ginger dressing was solid. The highlight, as it should be at a place like this, was the chef at our table, who got a laugh out of even the most cynical of us but also had a keen sense for who to engage directly and who to spare from most of the time interaction. And despite the broad combination of entrees selected, everyone got hearty servings of exactly what they ordered, with the delicious fried rice and and vegetables being a highlight for everyone. I'm never interested in these types of places soups or salads because they are bland. So I didn't try them. That's just me. Not a reflection on the restaurant. The quality of the food was perfect. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it's pricy especially if it's just Togo and the steak and scallops were small portions. Lots of veggies though. 10% discount if you use yelp! My husband got the wontons and the Batman roll. He said both were good, but again the price for the Batman roll was expensive and the portion was very small. My friends and I were eating and the server was not very friendly, when the gentlemen who cooks the food appeared, he did not speak English well, and he knocked over my glass of soda. I was able to stop it from spilling on my clothes and into my food. My apetite was ruin-After which I asked the server to speak with the manager and ask what she planned to do about it. Not only did she not apologize for her employee, she told our server since the drink didn't fall on me she would not take any money off the meal. Horrible customer service. At the very least I would expected to get an apology from the manager and reduced my bill. Stay away from this establishment. I asked for medium rare steak and I received well done Steak when I asked the waiter who barely spoke English to help me, she looked at me clueless, and brought my plate back as the workers at the sushi bar laughed. Management really needs to fix this because this place used to be a really nice restaurant. No one from Management or a supervisor came out to apologize or offer anything. Okay place to eat. I only got the chicken teriyaki and an order of ahi (tuna) sashimi. Let me start off by saying that im used to the store of happiness food they have in Japan and Hawaii and I'm biased when it comes to those types of food. The dressing was the better part of the salad. The soup was okay, a little bland for my taste. The rice was just regular sorry grain rice fried in some sauce. The main dish was a generous portion of chicken on a bed of mixed veggies and teriyaki sauce drizzled all over. There was nothing spectacular about this dish that stupid out to me flavor wise. Plus side, you get a generous portion size. The order of tuna sashimi ( 2 pcs). This place has one of the fresher tuna's I've had in Jax. Their menu had some interesting sounding rolls. Will have to go back and try them. Customer service was okay. They werent friendly or personable but they weren't rude either. Maybe it's just a language barrier issue. You first walk in and it's like a cute little fish pond area , and it's so cute.. and then you walk into the main lobby, and they're so quick to greet you and sit you down.. such sweet people, very kind, happy, patient, and the food is so good and always well cooked.
