I just ate their food tonight, it's now almost 1 am and I am feeling queasy as hell. Have been for about an hour or so. Had their fried rice and it was super oily (I assume, I'm still not sure). At first sight I thought the rice was wet and couldn't understand how their fried rice could be so watery then I realize it was probably oil. It wasn't dripping with oil but very wet looking. Good enough to eat and not complain but now I wish I would've. I hope my stomach is just upset from the oily rice and it's not food poisoning. This place was recommended to my family by a friend so we went head first and ordered $80 worth of nasty food. We got 2 orders of the chicken/steak combo. So nasty, in seasoned and steak was hard as bricks. They are cheap with their packaging and just throw everything into cheap individual styrofoam to go plates that just leak juice everywhere. We had a ten minute wait and the restaurant was packed when we got there. Seriously, every seat was occupied and for the first time I didn't mind. Our waitress and waiter were amazing, yes we had two of them, maybe three or four. Every employee was concerned about our dining experience and I can appreciate that. Their dynamite roll was AMAZING! One of the best sushi rolls I've tasted in Jacksonville. My auntie and I both agreed on that. Their fried rice was also great, seriously I could eat it alone. This is our family's favorite spot for birthday dinners. Our party size is never less then 10+. They are so efficient, so friendly, so hospitable. They take reservations. They make a homemade cake for birthdays and put a candle in it and everything. The hibachi is always delicious. The sushi menu is large and always tastes great. We really, really enjoy this establishment. Note- with larger parties they only add 18% gratuity to the checks. Which really shortchanges the amazing service we receive, so we always add more. This place is definitely one of my favorites on the Northside and Jacksonville as a whole. Comparable to Wasabi in the Town Center, minus the drive and extremely long wait times. I usually come here for dinner to celebrate a birthday but sometimes we'll come for lunch since it's my young son's favorite spot to eat. They do such a great job at making sure you are taken care of. If you are celebrating something they make sure to acknowledge it and make you feel special. They offer tables to sit at or you can choose to sit at the hibachi grill. My son loves the hibachi grill and we always hope we get Nicki (although the other chefs are great too). Nicki will definitely keep you laughing and loves to get the table involved in various "hibachi activities" (catching rice with your mouth, having the kids come up to do an egg cracking trick, and even blowing out the candle on a giant pile of rice - all hilarious! Nothing like watching your grandma take a ball of rice to the face). It's always a great experience. As for food, can't go wrong here. The sushi is great, the hibachi is excellent. The portion was more than you can eat so be prepared to take some home. I have been to a few hibachi Japanese steakhouses before. The overall experience was nice. It was my boy's first time seeing the whole volcano and choo choo train onion. To see the boys' faces light up was the best part. We were fortunate to have the chef to ourselves since it was a slow week night. Our chef who goes by 'Lucky' was very considerate and safety conscious of my kid's egg allergy. So no epi pen was needed tonight. Whew!! Boys ordered from the kid's menu under age 10. Honestly is big enough portion for an adult. One had chicken and other had shrimp. Both generous amount for a child. My husband ordered shrimp and calamari and I had chicken and shrimp. All were served with salad and clear soup. Personally the ginger dressing and clear soup were pretty weak in flavor. I would pass unless you are super hungry. Went on a Saturday night very busy if you plan on celebrating a special occasion I suggest getting there early. Very small waiting area, it's a little confusing where the hostess desk is with the huge crowd of people that are wanting to be contained in one area. They suggested a 2hr wait time. 20min later our party of 3 were sat. There was enough room to squeeze us on with a big party. So that was nice the wait wasn't too long. Our waitress was quick and friendly, our cook was pretty cool. His interaction with the table was hilarious and enjoyable. My son loved him, exited he caught whatever was being thrown at him with his mouth lol It's hibachi you can't really mess that up prices are reasonable for what you get. This review is solely on the sushi side of the restaurant. On the rare occasion that we are on the north side of Jacksonville, we decided to give this place a try. We are still searching for the hamachi collar (as Sekisui closed down... /cry) So imagine our surprise when we saw it on the menu here, but wait... $10.95? That's about the highest I've seen a hamachi collar dish. But maybe, wishful thinking, maybe it's priced that high because they give you BOTH sides of hamachi collor??? So we eagerly ordered our food. As usual, trying out a new sushi place, we ordered hamachi sashimi, tamago, spicy tuna roll... and then, I saw the spicy scallop roll, and just had to try it. Topped it all of with fried calamari and a hamachi collar. The fried calamari came out first. They were HUGE rings of squid lightly battered (Japanese tempura style) and fried to perfection. Delicious! Then the sushi came... The hamachi sashimi were two huge slices of fish, not bad at all. Tamago was decent. But that ended the good streak for us.... The spicy tuna roll was grinded up tuna mixed with spicy sauce. So I do prefer my fish a bigger piece instead of grinded, but I've tried spicy tuna roll both ways before. And have had good experience even when the tuna was grinded up like this. However, what is disappointing here is that the sushi rice was terrible and the knifework was ... unacceptable. Both rolls have very sloppy presentation. There were 8-9 pieces per order, which tells me the sushi chef decided to, for whatever reason, cut the pieces small. They were uneven, and some parts of these rolls were not covered with rice (i.e. showing seaweed wrapper). I do have to say though, that the spicy scollop roll was tasty, if you ignore the rice... So while we were finishing up the not-so-impressive rolls, I saw someone from the kitchen brought a plate of something to the sushi bar. And then, I saw the sushi chef vigorously putting all kinds of sauces on that plate. I was thinking to myself, "I feel sorry for the poor bastard who is gonna get that soaked sushi plate mess of a dish...." Guess what, we were that poor bastard! That was the hamachi collar.... I've had hamachi collar from several different places, this is the first time we had to "rescue" the hamachi collar from a soupy mess. It was a nicely flamed fish, tender and juicy, but topped, no, bathed in variety of sauces. The roe was a nice touch though. After our initial panic, we lifted the collar off from it's original dish and set it on the sushi dish (now empty)... and did enjoyed it afterwards. But no, it was a regularly portioned hamachi collar for $10.95... I guess the extra 4 bucks was the effort the sushi chef made to "decorate" the collar.... We probably will not... go back again, given the location (too far from where we live) and the display of sushi. The price of hamachi collar was just too high (now that we found another, decently priced, Japense restaurant for the collar). read more

Fujiyama! Let me start by saying that they do Japanese hibachi/teppanyaki about as well as anybody else in Jacksonville, but without the crazy wait times and crowds of some other places (not saying any names, #noshade intended). The sushi here is pretty great as well. They're a little far away from me, so I don't come here too often, but I can say that they definitely excel at what they do. Now there are some kinks at Fujiyama, as well, hence the four star rating vs five stars. The service on my last visit was lackluster, sadly, and I have noticed that they can be very hot and cold with their service quality. One night we might have the most enthusiastic, outgoing server and the next we might have someone who seems like they would rather be anywhere but there (I know the feeling, bro, but try not to let it affect your service!). I've also noticed that the amount of food you get when you order at a table vs the grill is vastly different for the same price. Tip: if you have no preference with regards to grill vs table, I'll always suggest the grill because you will very likely get more food. Also, for me, watching the chef cook never gets old, no matter how many times I see the onion volcano or watch someone struggle to catch a huge rice ball in their mouth. Then again, if you really don't want to wait (even though the wait for a grill at Fujiyama rarely exceeds about 10-15 minutes) a table is always open. read more

So I asked for them to cook me another piece. I fail to advise them about the salt again and my salmon was SALTY. I could not eat it. I asked them to remove it from my bill. I will not be ordering habachi from them anymore. I'll probably consider order rolls from them in the future IF I go back. Every time I order something other than rolls it salty.
