Update! For this who like milkier/richer milk teas, definitely try the half and half option! Before I tried this I thought that it might give the milk tea a strange taste, since half and half is so distinct. However, it blended in quite well and didn't have any strange taste/aftertaste at all! This will probably be my go-to option for milk teas here from now on. As for fruit-flavored tea (without milk), I found them to use quite a bit of syrup for the small size. I got a Passionfruit Green Tea with Lychee Jelly. The passionfruit flavor was pretty strong, and made it quite sweet even though I got 'light sweetness'. My friend got a large Lychee Black Tea and the syrup taste was not as strong in his. I'm thinking this is probably because he got a large and it was more evenly distributed? The lychee jelly was on point though! Pretty sure most places get the same lychee jelly anyways. read more

This place is terrible! I ordered my drink and found out it had been sitting there for an hour. Once I received it, it tasted disgusting. The ice had melted and it was watered down. I went to an employee and asked for a new drink and they refused. (They denied it had been sitting out for an hour but there was a sticker on it with the time it was made) I asked for a refund and they denied me for that. The employees were very rude. This is the new standard for bobba tea. The taro tea is the most delicious bobba tea I have ever had! The bobba was warm so I was caught a little off guard when I drank it. Today was the last day of their soft opening, and I'm writing this review tonight as a PSA that all beverages will be $1.50 tomorrow (11/13) for their grand opening. I was pleasantly surprised by the "freshness" of the tea and its accouterments--that seems like an odd remark about a tea place, but the tea was fresh-brewed and the tapioca balls were in a slow-cooker like setup that led me to believe they were homemade. We opted for tapioca and popping strawberry boba in our strawberry black tea, but the tapioca was definitely the star of the show. As others have said, this place uses REAL MILK which is amazing since it means you can have soy milk (!!!) and also customize the sweetness. I also thought the "light" sweetness was plenty sweet. Prices were reasonable, but service was rather slow--there were no more than 3-4 people waiting to be served, but it took nearly 10 minutes, which is unreasonable for bubble tea. I'll chalk that up to the soft opening and see how they fare in the future! read more

If you like boba tea, you have to come check out this place. I've tried boba tea once back in Alabama, and I did not like it at all. My friend here told me that I have to try it at Fuku. I decided to give it another try and see what all the hype is about. She recommended that I get the iced black tea with whole milk, normal sweetness, and tapioca. I decided to get that after looking at their menu and getting anxious about all their menu options. Instead though, I got light sweetness in mine. It was very quick to make and at a pretty inexpensive price. It was actually way better than I thought and immediately regretted not getting it a bit sweeter as it would have been wayyy better. This is pretty much the best and most consistent bubble you'll find in Pittsburgh. However, my 4 star rating goes to a couple particular teas and also to the boba itself. I have really high standards for bubble tea wherever I go (I'm Taiwanese, go figure) but even so I let a few of them pass when I came to Fuku. They push their tea selection, and although I usually go for that elsewhere, here I just ignore it completely. Not because it is bad, but I found some of their other drinks just far better. Firstly, I LOVE their: Chai Iced Tea, Thai Iced Tea, Taro Iced Tea, and (sometimes) their Matcha Iced Tea. That's pretty much it. Those teas go GREAT with the warm honey bubbles (Oh, that's a whole 2 stars by itself. I LOVE warm + honey bubbles so I'm in heaven every time). I do recommend going down a notch on the sugar if you have the option (like with the Matcha) because it's super sweet, creamy, and heavy. So if you like that stick to the regular. Their service is great, never had a problem. One time we came late and the lady moving the sign in felt bad for us and ushered us in anyway. Sadly the bubbles were already thrown out so we left anyway, but I'm grateful for that one time! One of the server girls even recognized me later because of it. So overall, nice service, nice people, they usually look like they enjoy each other's company while working. Also, it's fast and fresh every time so I love that. The changing and seasonal items are a plus, I like the experimenting! I would say one downside was their plain Honey Oolong milk tea with bubbles, which my friend ordered one time. I hope it was an off day, because with the low sugar content (it was ordered that way) the pairing between the tea and bubbles and milk was just... bleh. Not great. And I can personally attest to this combo because my friend and I run our own bubble tea pop up, and we have made this particular drink; and the flavors can work better than that. So, if you're a bubble tea snob like us and are trying to excruciatingly analyze the flavor pairings here, just don't bother. Grab yourself a signature drink and just enjoy it :) All in all I love Fuku and come back here on the regular! (But why does it take 12, yes 12 bubble teas to get a free one?? Not the best tea in Oakland. While it does have the option of being highly personalized to the consumer it lacks in quality. There are better bubble teas (and cheaper) in Oakland (like Chick'n Bubbly). They also offer a limited selection of classic bubble tea flavors! Even Asian restaurants in Pittsburgh offer more diverse flavors than Fuku Tea. If a restaurant specializes in tea, I would hope they they put more effort in creating a myriad of options that you couldn't get elsewhere. Maybe my favorite boba tea in the city and that's making a bold statement since I've been hunting down all the boba lately. I typically order the milk tea but you can't go wrong with matcha or thai- this is one of my favorite things about this place, there are soooo many options! The menu is set up well for easy ordering if you are new to the boba tea world. I am a huge fan of the tapicoa boba but you can also get bursting jelly like ones if that is more your style. I have been spoiled rotten by them. My friend made the mistake in introducing me to bubble tea through Fuku, and so far, I can only drink their bubble tea because all others taste sub-pair to them (crying). I only get the original milk tea (2% milk, normal sweetness, and tapiocas) cause I'm uncreative but be it hot or cold (I think the small hot cups hold a bit more liquid than the small cold ones), it tastes great. The service is also super quick even when there's a busy line. At most, I had to wait maybe 5 minutes for mine? (Unless you're an unlucky soul and people before you ordered multiple of drinks per customer). The place is a bit small in that the waiting area to-go can get cramped, and on the other side, it's a nice small, studying space if you can nab a spot (and no matter where it be, there are outlets yaaaaas). Some tips: 1) Tapiocas aren't usually available till like 10am-11am (usually 11am), and if you get them asap when they're available, they don't taste as flavorable/great/soft & chewy because they didn't have time to "sit down" or something. If you go to Fuku right before closing time, they might be out of tapiocas!! 2) Grass jelly is an option despite not being on the menu (website), I had to figure this out by actually reading the signs in the place and looking at reviews. It's my usual go to if there are no tapiocas but I might try lychee if I'm in for a sweeter mood. 3) Download the FiveStars reward app on your phone (no computer-option available) and get a free drink every 12 pts! 4) They got a facebook page so check it out for updates/new features and what not. read more

We are always looking for a great bubble tea place wherever we fuku satisfied that craving too. We ordered one of her specialties, Thai tea with tapioca. It was served not yet mixed, and we could see the layer of tea in the layer of cream above. It was the perfect mix, not as sweet as other locations, which probably use powder instead of actual tea. This place is probably the best place to get bubble tea in Pittsburgh, much better than Rose Tea Cafe, Everyday Noodles, Chengdu Gourmet, etc. So, it is OK. But it is still not perfect. Perplexingly, the staff put hot tapioca pearls straight out of the cooker into my iced beverage, causing it to reach an equilibrium temperature of room temperature. At least the texture of said pearls was good (unlike other bubble teas I've tried around Pittsburgh). The taste of the matcha latte I got was okay, but not great and a bit too sweet. Fortunately, the "make your own bubble tea" thing allows you to specify the desired level of sweetness as well as a vast array of other options, so I will give that a try next time. Update: I tried making my own tea with "light" sweetness. The tea itself was the right sweetness, but the tapioca pearls were still tongue-numbingly sweet. I got the original boba milk tea and it was horrible. Drink was watery with minimal tea flavor and milk tasted powdery. I asked owner if we could switch to another drink, he said no. I was very tempted to give this place a one star review given that I didn't enjoy what I was given, but since previous to my visit here, I'd never had bubble tea before, and this was a lark, I could not in good conscience give a one star review. My significant other loves bubble teas and has been very anxious to get me to try them, so we did after we'd had some burgers at Stack'd, which was just next door. The line was extremely long, in fact it was out into the sidewalk. One plus side of this, of course, is it gave me a chance to try and figure out what I wanted. The one part of it I was truly excited for was the little tapioca balls they put in the drink (hence the bubble name, I suppose). When we finally got it and sat down outside (inside seating is super limited and I wouldn't recommend it), I gave it a try. I have to say, I just didn't like it, quite frankly, which was a disappointment to me as well as her. Unfortunately, the worst part of it for me was the part I'd been looking forward to. The little tapioca balls. They were rubbery, chewy, and didn't really taste of anything, certainly not tapioca.
