Bullseye Bluing - Ruger New Model Single Six

    Bullseye Bluing

I had an old pistol I got for a song and decided to try Cerakote and unfortunately the only place…read morein town I could find to do it was Bullseye Bluing. I took my pistol to their shop in Feb or March (I can't remember for sure) and met with James. I explained what I wanted. James was a little hesitant to take the job and I offered to take it somewhere else if he didn't think he could do the job. James said that he could do the work but advised that because it is custom work it would take a little longer than bluing or cleaning. I travel for work so that was not a problem for me. I called the shop in August for an update and James said that everything was ready to start and it wouldn't be much longer. James did say that if I wanted to replace the sights now would be a good time to do that. I said the sights were fine and I didn't want to change them out. I still had not heard anything by early October so I went to shop to ask about the status. No work had been completed to date. James defended himself not updating me about the lack of progress saying that he didn't have time and that if he had to call all his cutomers he wouldn't have time to get any work done. I pointed out that not only had my pistol received any attention but also he hadn't called me either. James remained unapologetic and defiant stating, "nobody ever accused them of being fast." Mid-October I called and asked for an update James said he would have it done within a week. To his credit, a few days later he called to update me to say that he was applying the clear coat and it would be just a few more days. I went to pick up my pistol today (November 14) and I noticed that my front sight had been replaced. I asked James about this and he said that the original one broke when it was removed for cleaning. I didn't ask why wasn't I told about it; I just assumed that he was trying to hide it and didn't think I'd notice a different front sight. The "new" front sight has what appears to be rust on both sides. James insists that it's not rust and he "cleaned" it. I'll give it a few days to see if the cleaning took or if the rust comes back. This inattention to detail was just another in my growing list of short fallings with this shop. I have seen the finished Cerakote product on other firearms and know what they are supposed to look like. My pistol does not have clear coat. I asked about this and James says that it does. I have since confirmed with several other people that it does not have the clear coat. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that James, again, thinks it's okay to lie to customers with the hope they will not know any better. The custom work is moderate at best. The lines are not clean and there are tool marks in several places. This was not a new pistol and did have some scuffmarks but the whole point of the Cerakote is to hide these imperfections. To say that I am unhappy with the result is an understatement. Not only will I not ever refer this shop to do ANY firearm work I have decided that I will post this negative review in as many places as I can find to warn others about the poor workmanship and inferior customer service. If you like poor customer service and half-assed work then by all means bring your firearm here but if you value a local shop that provides quality work and excellent customer service keep looking.

Hard working staff, literally go thru hundreds of guns with only 2 gunsmiths. Overall great serviceread more

I trust that when I get my guns back that they will be in competition-ready condition. But beyond that, there was one situation where I had a problem with my only carry pistol and Patrick went out of his way to rush the job to ensure I didn't spend more time than necessary without a valuable piece of protection. I recommend All American to everyone who asks me if I know a gunsmith in Alabama or Georgia.

Despite repeated assurances, the trigger replacement was never successfully performed. Throughout this extended period, I experienced ongoing delays, inconsistent communication, and what felt like a continuous runaround whenever I attempted to get updates on the status of my firearm. This level of service falls far below reasonable expectations for professionalism and customer care. To make matters worse, I was charged for a service that was ultimately not completed. Retaining payment under these circumstances is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about your business practices. I virtually pay you to baby sit my own gun!
