Late review but I came here for the last day of their OC Punk Rock exhibition which included a concert by Channel 3, Manic Hispanic and Agent Orange. So my experience will be a bit out of the ordinary since it was very very crowded there lol. Located on the corner of Pomona and Wilshire, the Fullerton Museum Center is almost like a neighborhood museum because it's surrounded by houses. There's a parking structure nearby which was free to park at, or at least it was on this day. As I said earlier it was extremely crowded and there were two lines. One to get into the concert area and one to get into the museum and it was a pain to find which was which. One we were inside, the punk rock exhibit was nicely done. Lots of cool pieces from OC punk rock royalty were on display. TSOL, DI, CH3, Agent Orange, Adolescents and Social Distortion were all front and center. I was particularly happy to see the original artwork for TSOL's "Dance With Me" album cover in the flesh. They also had lots of cool stuff in the gift shop and of course the concert itself was great! If Fullerton Museum Center brought this back or did another cool exhibit I'd certainly return. The drive isn't my favorite and the location is a bit odd but staff were friendly and helpful even though they weren't prepared for THAT many people. Museums are important and I'd like them to stick around. Recommended! read more

Online prices do not match the prices charged at the museum. Toddlers are free, $10 per adult and $5 per child. The gift shop is really cute but crazy expensive. $40 for a notebook is a bit much. Truly nice things but just way too much. There's a payphone in a booth which made for a nice photo. They don't allow backpacks or large bags and ask that you leave it in an open cubby near the register. The place wasn't terrible but extremely underwhelming. There was some artwork, some posters and about 5 guitars on display. Upstairs is closed. That's pretty much it. We spent about thirty minutes here. read more

So I've visited before and enjoyed it but this review is for their Haunted Fullerton Walking Tour. This was my second time taking it and have to say it was just as enjoyable as the first time. I could do without the jokes but hey, they gotta keep it fun I imagine. ;) It's a great mix of lore and history and I love the ending at the cute store/house. Highly recommend especially if you have any ties to Fullerton like me! read more

I was so excited to hear that Fullerton Museum had an OC Punk show! Prior to my arrival, I thought it would just be a small show with very few exhibits. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised with how large of an exhibit it was and how much fun stuff they had in there to view. They, of course, had all the OC staples such as TSOL, Social D, Agent Orange, The Vandals, DI, Shattered Faith along with a variety of other than OC bands Agnostic Front, Circle Jerks... needless to say it was a very impressive exhibit! The artwork for albums and t-shirts along with shoes and jackets and instruments was fantastic!! They did an amazing job!! read more

Ohh where do I begin... Me and my friends decided to take a trip into Fullerton's Museum Center and we decided it would be some fun to attend an opening. As soon as we got there, we were met with and filtrated disrespectful mess. Me and my friends were targeted because of our clothes and the way that we acted while watching the employees in the back smile and roll their eyes at everything we said when we finally got our wristbands to go in we were stopped by another employee who also had a problem apparently because we didn't have the right wristbands we went back and of course, the staff gave us attitude once more. I'm 100% sure those employees names were Shea and Janet. I literally did not know what we did wrong or did to upset them, but they obviously had a problem with our character. They gave us attitude, and I felt really disrespected. The most memorable part about that time was leaving the museum because I have never in my life felt so disrespected. not only this, but there are so many levels of this organization throughout the whole venue, no matter who I went to I was always directed to somebody who didn't know be didn't help at all or see just ignored my calls for help. It was so sad trying to enjoy some art and music with my friends when they can't even get their act together, they say they're hiring, but the workers look so sad. I would be terrified to work here. They should really consider how they organize and put their workers up to tasks. I felt bad for this one worker who always had something to do, and when I finally caught up to them as a question, they felt so flustered and tried their hardest to help me out and it just didn't go anywhere. read more

They fixed the phone issue and got better about responding to emails. Sean/Shawn was incredibly helpful getting us setup for the event in under an hour and accommodating our groups needs. Fullerton Museum Center - Awesome exhibits - Museums Near Me - Fullerton, California

Fullerton Museum Center is easy to find, in the heart of the downtown. It could be a nice activity while you are in the area, a great way to spend a hour or so. The museum is very small, the building it's charming, has character. I was mainly interested in their Leo Fender collection, I wanted to learn more about the creator of the electric guitar, born in Fullerton, the place where he lived all his life. The exhibit is wonderful, if you love music, enjoy going to concerts (who doesn't), are a rock fan, this is a great way for you to dig deeper and find out some interesting facts about how this invention changed the music world. They do instruments on view, great information, photos. It's a great tribute to Leo Fender. This is on permanent view. They also have temporary exhibit, I got to see "Electricity" (on view till April 22). No, I'm no science geek, I wasn't that good in school studying physics and chemistry. Not my forte or cup of tea. But still, this exhibit is decent, fun, interactive. I'm sure kids would enjoy it more than I did. Decent customer service, great gift shop full of cool merchandise, great for souvenirs or gifts. The Museum is closed on Mondays, Tuesday& Wednesdays: Noon - 4 pm, Thursdays: Noon - 8 pm Friday- Sundays: Noon - 4 pm It's $5 admission, $4 for seniors and $3 Children (Ages 6-12). Free - 6 pm-10 pm first Friday of the month. Small museum, but it could be a nice visit, worth checking it out. read more

I loved this museum! Stumbled upon it while planning a day to explore Fullerton. I read somewhere online that admission was $20 per person, so I was pleasantly surprised by that it was actually $5! $4 if you have a student ID. They have the electricity exhibit right now, which was so fun with all the interact-able displays. A few of them were broken though, which was disappointing, but overall it was a great experience. We also really enjoyed the Fender exhibit, but would recommend for the curator to consider rearranging some of the items. The placement of the texts about Fender's life didn't really flow.. you had to go from one side of the room to the other to follow the timeline of the text.. didn't really make sense and kind of ruined the story a bit because we went from early in his career to his death, haha. read more

I have always walked by this little museum but never managed to step inside. So on July 31st, I decided to peek around. FYI the staff informed me that the rates have increased to $10 per person - which is understandable due to the pandemic. Plus, its good to support the local arts. I paid the entrance fee and engaged in small banter with the docents. Then, I walked through the large art-deco doors to begin the exhibit. I spent about 45 mins reviewing the current exhibit and its permanent display of the Fender guitars. I learned a lot about Leo Fender, the craftmanship of his guitars, and the management of his corporation. I was also too busy in awe of the Fullerton Museum Center and its architecture. I would return, once the new exhibits resume... also, to scope out the place and take more pics! This little gem definitely has a lot of photo opportunities for my fellow photo enthusiasts! Fullerton Museum of Art was the former city library which had outgrown its usefulness. The architecture reminds me of a WPA building built sometime in the 1930's with touches of Art Deco, Latinate motifs, topped with red Spanish tile. There are two large rooms for showing of traveling art exhibits & the other smaller rooms are dedicated to Leo Fender, inventor, innovator of the electric guitar not to mention other electrical, music innovations. He was a local son of Fullerton & so is honored in being the permanent exhibit. Alfonse Mucha: The Spirit of Art Nouveau Alfonse Mucha, a Bosnia Herzegovinian, was a much admired Art Nouveau artist in his day at the fin de dix-neuvième siècle/turn of the 19th century based in Paris France. He made many posters of and for Sarah Bernhard not to mention many other works fo Art Nouveau. Art Nouveau & the Crafts Movement were both reaction to the Industrial Age which mass produced characterless, products of impersonal distinction. Art Nouveau was more organic with a personal touch & aesthetics that harked to a more genteel, halcyon era. It was a short era that lasted from around the 1880's to WWI, but it affected most areas of Western culture. We went to the opening of this pleasant, eye pleasing exhibit for a donation of $10. Later we were surprised that it also included a "free" crêpe from Crêpes de Paris that was the catering company for that event. Nice staff that was well organized, courteous, and friendly. We had a choice of Chicken & Spinach in a crème-cheese sauce; Saint Louis w/ bacon, mushrooms, tomato, mozzarella cheese; Veggie w/ feta cheese, red bell pepper, tomato, mushrooms. Also water or soft drink was supplied. We also ordered a Kölsch beer for $5. A fun band, Pint Sized Cocktail Orchestra, played many unknown songs that were probably popular in the teens & 1920's. This special event brought out a large crowd of mostly Fullertonians. Very inexpensive way to spend about 3 hours hobnobbing with a nice representative cross section of the local population. We have been enjoying the farmers market/adorable gift shop/beer garden for the past couple of years, but what compelled me to write a review is this: Last night while waiting to meet friends, I decided to have a look inside the shop to see what was new. I was about to leave when a display of rad earrings caught my eye. After debating between several pairs for a few minutes, I left really stoked on my selection. Long story short, I forgot my treasure on one of their cocktail tables outside:(. I returned today and the lovely individual who sold them to me last night, was again present and helped me sort it out. I didn't get the name, but pixie cut, big smile employee at museum center rocks and cemented my loyalty to this great Fullerton institution. I know Yelp likes more specific details, so just to ensure this actually gets posted, the first time I set foot in this shop to "browse" last year right before Christmas, I walked out $140 lighter. Super cute, kitschy, well-crafted and curated items. Everyone is always friendly, but todays assistance made my week. Thank you again!!! read more

I know a cultural faux pas when I step in one... Knowing most Yelpers as a frugal bunch, allow me to save you some time and money so you can spend it getting wasted versus wasting it at this museum. I understand culturalists will say "How can you be so cold and callous? Our children simply love this place!" And all I have to say is life is tough, I'm not a child and it is what it is...not worth $4. But I'll help pay the light bill today (actually, my friend did, hehe) You want some details. After my friend bought an early birthday AYCE Italian buffet lunch, we felt the need to walk some of it off. There was a lot to walk off. "Hey, there's a museum, let's get some kultcha!" We enter the Fullerton Museum Center (I haven't a clue what makes it a "center") and find: A bunch of photographs you'll find in any California history book. 1 (one) tiny gold ingot as the headliner item of "Gold Fever!", the core exhibit. 1 (one) rusted iron Spanish helmet with rusted sword, bfd. 1 (one) metal panning pan, again bfd. 1 (one) mini-scale, do I need say bfd again? Got Gold Fever yet? I felt fine with no hint of a high temperature. Now, the special exhibit: Fender guitars. I'm not a guitar purist and admittedly don't know a fret from a chord. But they had several guitars hanging on the walls and described the story of Leo Fender and his contribution to modern music. Al got a picture of me strumming a six-string and somewhere I swear I smelled shrimp beginning to boil. But I broke a nail and maybe that's why I'm so callous and cold, culturally lacking. At least I didn't have to fly home. But I'd had a manicure just the day before, was stuffed blind, had my glasses on with no make-up, it was a rainy, cold, bad-hair day, and whatever...this place was as dead as the Conquistador that once wore that iron rust bucket. That's it! Think of all that time and money I just saved you... Of course, you can spend $4 and see if I'm wrong... OR you can mail me the $4 because you've saved all that gas money P.S., my friend thought the gold was fake but I thought it was real. He tried shoving the plexiglass case aside a few times but it wouldn't budge. (just kidding). P.P.S., the museum store had a bunch of trash kitschy stuff in it but that's not why we came in. I think the smartest thing to do is just to become a member of the museum. This way you support a great local community art center. The membership pays for itself in so many ways. The first month of when the Farmers' Market opens, you can sign up for under $40 for a full year membership. The market lasts 8 months and you get a drink coupon mailed to you each month, your collector market mug and special members only invitations to exhibit openings. The Museum Center also has a phenomenal gift shop with tons of great gifts that I know art/design freaks would love to snag up. The Museum center also offers summer art programs for kids which I think is spectacular and they even offer up adult classes too, last night the Mr. and I took a simple silk screening class for $8 and it was really fun to do something different and creative for a date night. Right now the exhibit is Technicolor Dreaming: Psychedelic Posters from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. I love this era, I love all things mid-1960s and i adore the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland and I think it is great that they loaned these posters to FMC for the exhibit. In an age of technology, you just don't find design and art out there like these posters. These are authentic hand drawn and lithographed posters where the design was inspired by amazing music. The permanent Fender Guitar exhibit is definitely worth seeing and as I always say, I was born in the wrong decade. read more

Haven't been into the museum portion of this building, but I have strolled into their gift shop, it is small, yet totally darling. The gift shop has many quirky and eclectic items. From art books, to figurines, post cards, stationery, purses and tumblers. I like walking over here to take a break from work. Looking at all the cool stuff transports my corporate brain. When I decide to check out the museum, I will update this review. Don't expect much from this place. It's a very small museum and you probably won't like it unless you are into Fender guitars. There was another exhibit at the time I went - Julius Schulman, an architectural photographer who is known for photographing many of the mid century modern homes in Palm Springs. I think the Julius Schulman exhibit is temporary and will probably get replaced with something else shortly but the Leo Fender exhibit seems to be a permanent display since he got his business started in Fullerton and has a long history in the city. Entrance is fee is $4/person. There's a small gift shop at the entrance that sells items related to current exhibits. Saw some cool Fender shirts but they didn't have my size and the price is ridiculously high. read more

It was a nice exhibit, however the longest time you could spend here is maybe thirty minutes. It's a bit smaller than I thought it would be. At the moment they have a number of old movie posters and flyers they would use to promote the movies. They also have a great exhibit dedicated to Leo Fender with his record collection and a number of different types of Fender instruments as well. It would be nice to see them extend to the up stairs or maybe add more rooms to make it feel like your money was well spent. I feel it is a bit over priced for what is available to see on hand. I just happened to be working in the area and ran into this little gem. It's the Fullerton Museum Center. The museum has one stationary exhibit for Fender. The traveling exhibit is about the Johnny Carson show. I didn't get a chance to get a peak because they didn't open their doors until noon, but it looks interesting enough to make a visit in the future and provide a more detailed review. Avoid using the restroom here. It smells like a cat pee'd and poo'd for a month inside, then died in the pipes. Yuck!!! I've done enough bitching and whining lately that I'm due for a positive review, and the Fullerton Museum Center gets it. This place is great. Quirky and unique, it never has your run-of-the-mill-shows. The last one had incredible paintings of superheroes that were stunning. Stunning I tell you! The next show is about Johnny Carson, which I expect will be great. My favorites have been really fun. There was the 100 Worst Album Covers of All Time; Nudie Suites, which was about the guy who made all those fancy sequined and glittery costumes country singers used to wear; dramatic photographs form WWII, and of course the British Invasion. You won't find boring stuff here. It's small enough to do what it wants, but it is in a city that won't let them be too radical. So the exhibits always meet a curious safe place off to the side of the middle of the road. If you haven't been, you should. Thursday is a great day to introduce yourself, as it is Downtown Market day, which the museum folks run. There is a beer garden, live music, an incredibly welcoming social town square atmosphere, and an opportunity to sign up and become a member. It's cheap to do and the benefit is immediate in the form of coupons for free beer. Best yet is that the staff and folks who operate the place are great to work with. Last year I'm told there was a problem with people sneaking in their own booze, which is a major no-no. The problem went away without notice because of how well it was handled. (Beer sales at the Market is how the museum pays for exhibits, so the cheap folks who can't contribute should stay home anyway). Okay, I've said nice things about something, so now I'll go back to being snippy about something else. Hmmm, what should it be? Stay tuned. read more

There was a groupon for a membership at the museum. "ooh" i thought to myself "this is what adults do- have memberships at museums." We finally got there and walked around the museum. It was nice, but small. There was an exhibit on inventions and pattens. Great fender display. If you are going to go to this mueseum-get a membership. It makes it worth the price. Otherwise, I'm not sure. You get invited to events and can bring your whole family. Aside from that you are helping out the local community- they do a lot of events for kids. The gift shop is great for finding unusual items for gifts. Go to the museum then grab a coffee at the Night Owl. read more

So knowing the local Bowers Museum was an awesome place, I thought Fullerton Museum Center was the same case, but I guess I was totally wrong. The place is very neat and well-organized, but as far as artifacts and items on display go, it wasn't much. I understand they mostly display local things from within Orange County, but I thought it could be way better. Currently they are having a "10,000 Years of Beer" exhibit going on, and me being someone who does not drink alcohol whatsoever found it a bit boring. It was a little interesting to see how beer cans have evolved throughout the years, but other than that - eh. Only thing I found interesting was the gift shop area. Since Halloween is around the corner, there was a small notebook for sale about the haunted places around the Downtown Fullerton area. I looked through it and discovered some haunted places, and took them into consideration. I ended up checking those places out like Villa del Sol and had a much more fascinating time than this "museum center." read more

The place was interesting for me since there was an exhibit about the founder of Fender, who was raised in Fullerton and founded Fender there. It was interesting since it revealed some history about one of the places where I grew up. The other exhibit was a display of historic citrus fruit crate labels...not as exciting. The most exciting items were (1) the orange time capsule I discovered next to the staircase tucked away from the normal path and (2) the giant roach sitting below me, below an air duct grate. read more

We paid and entered the art is really pretty but shortly after entering some employee spoke way too loud and demanded we get rid of our coffee and go pay for admission which we already did. Completely broke the art experience. Might be good to have actual trash cans inside and maybe wristbands instead of assuming everyone sneaked in. read more

I was lucky enough to meet Richard Smith who shared his stories and knowledge as well. The traveling exhibits are always interesting as well. We checked out the Haunted Fullerton Walking Tour. I have to say the highlight was seeing the inside of the Fox theater. The rest was nothing special at all. After a 30 min briefing on paranormal stuff by the guys from NOPS (No Orange Co Paranormal Society) we followed our guide on foot to Angelo's and Vinci's (not Fullerton High or the Plummer Auditorium as advertised), sat in the third floor dining room to hear about more paranormal activity that takes place in the restaurant and around Fullerton. From there we walked across Harbor to the former home of Lillian Yeager (first female mechanic of Fullerton) and stood outside (the owner was not there to have us inside as advertised) to hear about more paranormal activity that takes place inside which is now a curio shop called Le Potager. We then walked back across Harbor to the Fox Theater and went inside, sat and heard a few more paranormal stories. We then crossed Harbor again and went to the old California Hotel and sat in the courtyard of the Villa Del Sol to hear about the hauntings that take place there. The tour ended there at Cafe Hidalgo where we redeemed our free beverage coupon given to us in the beginning at check in. Overall the people were nice however the tour seemed unorganized and incomplete and I can't say it was worth the money. read more

The hun surprised me with an excursion to the Fullerton Museum. Why, you ask would he want to take me there on a date? Well, he knows me well enough that I'm a purse junky and the museum had a purse exhibit. It was a little more than just a collection of purses, they also discussed the social impact that purses made. I thought that it was a decent exhibit that was worth $4 for an hour of walking around. read more

I recently attended the Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray exhibit at the Fullerton Museum Center. Though I have visited the museum several times to see the featured artist unveiled during the monthly art walks and to peruse the eclectic gift shop, this is the first exhibition I have seen in the museum's main gallery. I am so glad I attended! Seeing how one artist interprets another through photography, especially since the subject artist used a different medium for her own self portraits, was what initially intrigued me. Adding on the fact that Kahlo and Muray had a decade-long affair, I knew I must witness this. Walking through the towering white doors, your eyes are immediately inundated with color - vibrant, beautiful color perfectly framing the portraits of the chromatic Frida Kahlo. The portraits underwent various processing techniques and were featured in full prismatic color, as well as black and white. The viewer can see how the photographer equally lusted and admired his subject; however, the portraits I enjoyed the most, oddly enough, were those of Kahlo and husband Diego Rivera. Muray posed them in such a regal fashion, representing where Rivera stood within the art world and what Frida aspired to be (and would recently become). Muray beautifully captured moments of the married couple embracing and kissing. Though seemingly ambivalent through his lens, I wonder how Muray processed his what-appeared-to-be constant fluctuating relationship with Kahlo, seeing this woman manipulate every shot. Brilliant! The exhibition included letters written by Kahlo to Muray, depicting her aggravation with the art world, her appreciation of Rivera and her love for Muray. They were deeply personal letters that brought you into the mind of this surrealist painter - who was often in physical and emotional pain - gaining insight into her self-reflective work. I consider myself appreciative and knowledgeable of many art forms, so I am particularly pleased when my museum experience turns out to be a learning one, as it should be and this was. Keep up the good work FMC! I'm excited to see your future exhibitions. What prevented this from being a 5-star experience was not having an engaging staff. As the only museum attendee during my visit, I would have expected the staff to be an informative source, providing exhibition material, briefly describing what will be seen or suggesting a favorite piece. Even without these factors, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. read more

Yesterday, five of us (2 adults who used to live in Fullerton for 20+ years and 3 children who have lived in Fullerton for 10 years) went to the Museum for the first time. My sister had read about it in the newspaper and suggested we go since the new exhibit sounded interesting. We were babysitting our ten year old triplet grandchildren so thought this would be a fun afternoon after going out to lunch and seeing a movie. We arrived at the Museum at 3:00 knowing it closed at 4:00. We figured $19.00 for two adults and three children was reasonable for one hour of entertainment. The young lady at the counter told us that the Museum was closed but would open again from 6:00-9:00, and we could come back then. So, we let the triplets look around the gift shop to find gifts for themselves. We spent about 30 minutes and $50 there. We told the young lady we would be back after 6:00 and specifically asked her how much it would cost. She said it would be $3 for each child and $5 for each adult...again, $19 for an hour or two of entertainment. We left and went back to Yorba Linda to run a few errands and go out to dinner. We drove back to the Museum in Fullerton and entered the building about 7:30. There were some people milling around the gift shop and a different young lady at the podium just inside. So, I told her we were back to go to the Museum exhibit. She told us that it would cost $20 a person. We told her the whole story about what had happened earlier and how the young lady at the counter had quoted $19 for all five of us. She wouldn't budge. After spending a good deal of money already on the triplets during the day, including $50 at the Museum gift shop, we couldn't justify another $100 for an hour and a half. So, we left with three very disappointed children and two very unhappy adults. Given the circumstances, this situation could have been avoided. You could have had five happy visitors who would have spread the word at the children's school and would have returned for future exhibits. However, due to this whole unfortunate ordeal, we will not be returning to the Museum as this whole situation was extremely disappointing. read more

I just went on the Haunted Ghost Tour of Fullerton, and it was totally awesome. (I actually get freaked out by stuff like this, but we decided to do it for Halloween.) It was the coolest experience. You get to walk all around downtown and learn about the surprising history of Fullerton: buildings, people, and events you'd never have guessed about. There were so many interesting things, and the tour guide did a great job of bringing the past to life in terms of historical context, the people who lived here, and the causes of deaths. Also, seeing the interior of the Fox theatre was so awesome (and slightly spooky). Everyone should go! read more

Small museum. They had a rock photog art exhibit. The Leo fender exhibits are interesting to see. One of his radios was there. Showed a mock up of his last desk at G & L music. Some early engineering notes and designs of guitar pickups. Wish there was more. read more

You need to know this is a small museum but it is a real treasure. The Leo Fender exhibits take up a large room but include many priceless pieces of music history along with excellent descriptions. In addition, they usually have an OUTSTANDING touring exhibit. We just saw a wonderful art deco show and many of the past shows are ones you would expect to see in a much larger museum. Parking is easy on streets around the area and charming downtown Fullerton with it's many restaurants is only two blocks away. read more
