What a fun time! We selected the "Weekday Afternoon DIY Fragrance Design". You can select candle or perfume making. My daughter & I chose the make your personal perfume scent. She & I were the only people in attendance on a weekday afternoon. Before you start, you select which size (ounces) perfume you want to make; 10ml is the default but you can upgrade to a larger size & pay an up-charge. Each person makes their own scent choosing 1-3 scents for each category of base, middle, & top. We had 24 different scents to smell and choose from. The Love & Make employee provides composition guidelines & suggestions on scent quantities. After you make all your scent selections, the worker does the final "math" to tell you quantities of each scent. You measure out each scent & finally mix them all together to create your final scent. I'll admit, the worker was not very enthusiastic while helping us. Yes we were the only participants that day but it would have been nice if she had a little bit of "perkiness" while working with us. Nonetheless, the two of us enjoyed each other's company & enjoyed the unique experience. I would definitely return & bring a few more people to have a group experience. I highly recommend the experience! The overall experience was a 5. However, I will rate it 4 because customer interaction for this type of experience is important. I went to Love and Make in Houston to try their candle making class and it was such a great experience. We chose the shorter class that is about 45 minutes to an hour long and it was a lot of fun. You really get to make your candle from start to finish on your own and the process is hands on but easy to follow. We tried out all the different scents which was so enjoyable and then chose the one we liked best. Our class teacher was very informative and very nice, she explained everything clearly and made the experience feel relaxed and creative. The shop itself is set up beautifully and the aesthetics are very pleasing. It feels modern, cozy, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. They even give you the option to upgrade your candle if you want something larger or more customized which is a nice touch. The shop is right in the middle of Rice Village so it makes for a perfect outing, you can shop or grab food nearby and then enjoy the class. Overall this was such a fun and memorable activity, the people are really nice and everything about the process was enjoyable. I've been wanting to go here for months and am so glad I finally had the opportunity!! I went with my family on a Friday afternoon. We booked the 45 minute candle-making class not realizing there was a difference between it and the regular 2 hour long class. Trust me - there's a big difference! We realized we weren't going to figure out another time to do the longer class, so we doubled down on the 45 minutes. We really enjoyed picking out our vessels and scents for the candles. During the 45 minute class you get access to some but not all of the available scents. We enjoyed the mixing and matching and I settled on a couple floral combos for my candles. I like that they list different categories of scents that tend to go better together. Next, you measure out the scents to mix with your wax. Our chandlers did a lot of the heavy lifting (heating the wax and stirring) for us as we had our hands full. Finally, we poured out our wax and cleaned up! We were able to pick up our candles the next day and I've enjoyed the smells throughout my apartment SO much since then. I learned so much about candle care too. I even stopped by a few days later - they sell DIY kits for candles, soaps, and even bath bombs, which I got as a Christmas gift for a family member! I love that they encourage you to save your vessel to reuse at another class to make a new candle - I will certainly be doing that. They're pretty easy to access with free parking in rice village garages for 2 hours. I can't wait till next time I visit! read more

Took a perfume class as a late Mother's Day arrangement and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. This black owned brick and mortar is located in Rice Village- with ample parking and eats around the area. The building is clean, spacious and offers so many workshops including candle making, soap making and diffusers. The perfume class ran about 90 minutes and was so detailed. We learned alot about the chemistry of different perfume types and each tier of smells that make a perfume. There were ample options to choose from. It can be a bit overwhelming on the nose since we had to select 3-5 scents in each of the three layers, but they have coffee grounds to help you reset. We ended with a scent that contains 9-15 different fragrances, and the workers did a great job with measuring out each one for us to create our final products. It is also BYOB which makes it a great weekday hangout. We received a signed certificate, gift bag and box with a label for our final product. What a great experience. My friend and I attended the perfume making class. We were given a short educational lesson on perfumes and then instructions before getting to work. Piecing together a scent special for yourself is so much fun and can be a little overwhelming. The staff were there to help and make recommendations based on what you were looking for. I was looking for a more sweet smell and Amelia suggested me adding tobacco on the base to bring out the sweet top notes. It sounded so crazy until I tried it! Thank you ladies for a great class. Since it was Valentine's Day, they even had champagne/mimosas and sweet treats for the class, plus a great playlist, so it was such a vibe. My candle smelled soo good and was the perfect signature scent. They even save your combinations so that you can get a refill anytime. This was an amazing experience! We came here for the scent making class. From start to finish the staff was insightful and friendly. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff and checked in. Afterwards we were sat down and shown where we can place our bags and we were able the choose what color bottle we wanted. We were given a lesson on how to make our scent as well as what the difference in strength of scents are from eu fraiche all the way to essentially a pure oil based scent. We were educated on the base, mid, and top scents and how they affect each other along with the time frames they last. They have an array of oil scents to try and they encourage you to try all of them to see what compliments each other. Throughout the process the staff will help with recommendations if you want for compliments and what would make your scent pop more. Once you're done, the staff helps you figure out the math behind how much of each oil to add to your bottle and how to use the dropper to measure out the amounts. Once you fill your bottle they make sure you get the best bang for your buck and you can add additional anounts of of your scent in order to tweak if you like it where it is or not. Upon completion you get to name your scent and they give you your card so if youd like to replicate your scent you can come back and they will make another bottle for you. This is my second time making candles, first time here. Unsuspecting from the outside, it's a cute little shop with plenty of seating and tables as well as shelves and coat racks for belongings. It is BYOB, but they do have cups, corkscrews, and water should you need it. The options are massive in terms of scents and containers for your candles; I love the option to upgrade. You can also have your items mailed to you. With 80 scents, the options are endless, and the staff are good as helping you create the vibe you are looking for. Totally a must try if you love candles! I honestly didn't have much in the way of expectations. Well, I am a TOTAL fan now! It's a well organized fun and cool experience and I think everyone would enjoy it! They have lots of base scents that you select ones you like. Then you get a chance to mix them and test smell them every which way you want. The staff will offer suggestions if you ask and help you find the perfect scent. They also teach some candleology ...I learned things about candles I never knew. I would say I'm a bit of a scented candle connoisseur. These candles I made, have the strongest throw and are by far THE best smelling candles I've ever had. Yankee and BBW can't even hold a candle to them. Once you get a scent/combo down that you like, you can come back for shorter sessions to make another of the same scent OR room spray and other items. Umm....yes please! They also have take home options. And! Whatever vessel you choose, you can bring it back and "refill" with a new candle. Kudos to businesses that think about their carbon footprint and double down as a cost saver for the customer. My only caveat is that I don't recommend the metal tins for a candle bc they get super dangerously hot They're too hot to handle actually. I definitely will be returning! read more

I have been wanting to check out this cute crafting boutique ever since my coworker came to work raving about a candle-making class she attended at Love & Make. Love & Make offers multiple types of classes including candle-making, soap-making, and bath bomb-making. Additionally, they offer take home kits complete with a video tutorial if you'd prefer to make your craft in the comfort of your own home! My friends and I decided to take a soap-making class. The class started on time and the instructors began by giving a bit of background about the company. Note: Love & Make is a woman-owned, black-owned company whose goal is to teach you how to make something you'll love! There were A LOT of instructions at the beginning of the class, and I definitely could not remember all of the steps off the top of my head but the instructors (Amelia and Katherine) were great about answering questions in real-time. The class size was fairly small (9 people total), so the instructors were able to give each of us plenty of individual attention. There were tons of scents, colors, molds, and types of soaps to choose from! We had a blast smelling all the different scents and trying out different scent combinations. Love & Make also offers add-ons like botanicals/herbs and small toys that you can use to decorate your soap FREE OF CHARGE! The best part is that you make 2 pounds worth of soap! This is WAY more than I expected. I made 12 bars of soap and some mini soaps. Note: Soaps have to set for 24 hours, so you will NOT leave the class with your soap. You must return to pick up your soap the next day or at another time! I can't wait to go back to Love & Make to try their other workshops! read more

The staff was super friendly. Alex was the chandler (candle maker) for our class and she patiently went over the steps on creating a candle. They have many options for vessels and an overwhelming assortment of fragrances! I will say, picking a fragrance combination took the longest but it was also the funnest part in my opinion! We had an evening class so our candles had to stay overnight to cure but they have a generous pick up policy and even the option to ship.
