This was my first time eating at a vegan restaurant. I can't say enough how surprisingly delicious everything was. I had the lasagna and Caesar salad. The texture of the lasagna was just like traditional lasagna and was super "cheesy" with a little bit of spice. The Caesar salad had mushrooms which made me feel like I was eating anchovies. Delicious.!We also ordered a fried mushroom sandwich and fries. For dessert we had the delicious cornbread and mango lassi made from soy. There's is a parking lot across the street. The place is small but feels spacious with lots of light. The owner/chef was friendly and welcoming. The vibe felt like a gathering of neighborhood friends. I highly recommend this place and look forward to going back and trying their other dishes.

I've been dying to try this place since they opened this year as I've seen them at farmers markets. I'm vegan and love mushrooms so I was thrilled to hear they opened a store front and was even more excited when I realized they were the same as Fungi Farms where they grow mushrooms in Orinda! I've bought both their mushrooms at farmers markets as well as the mushroom jerky (ALL the flavors are amazing!) but have never actually tried the cooked food until recently. I was blown away by the flavors of the food! Everything was so good and paired together well so you can't go wrong with any combination of items on the menu. My partner and I ordered the bbq Cajun Mac which was deliciously creamy and had a good level of spice. We also got the gochujang sandwich and upgraded the side from fries to loaded mashed potatoes, which was mashed potatoes with corn, green onions, and sauce. Everything was SO GOOD!! We also got lucky and were dining in the same day they were filming content so we were lucky enough to be in some pictures and videos! And we were given the food that was made just for the content, so we had so many dishes to go! We ate the food the next day and it was just as tasty as when it was fresh. The food, staff, service, and cozy environment were all 10/10 and Oakland is really lucky to have this new place here! Please go support them, you won't be disappointed!

I don't say this lightly --Fungi Foods is doing something different! Fully vegan, mushroom-focused, and somehow hitting that comfort food craving without the usual heaviness. I ordered one of the KFV bowls (fried oyster mushrooms over mashed potatoes ... the Mash n' Gravy), and it was exactly what you want it to be: crispy, savory, and deeply satisfying. I also had the rose lassi, which was smooth, lightly sweet, and a really nice balance to the richness of the bowl. Tasted so healthy. But what really stood out was the energy. Constant flow of people, no dead vibe, and everyone actually looked happy with their food ... which says a lot. Jake, the owner, was out there giving samples (including mushroom jerky), talking to people, and clearly takes pride in what he's building. Also, small detail, big impact, there are little card games at the tables. It makes the whole place feel intentional and communal instead of transactional. And for anyone who actually cares about ingredients: their dressings don't use seed oils, and they fry in rice bran oil. That alone sets them apart. I came for the mushrooms and left rethinking comfort food. This is how you do vegan comfort food without cutting corners. I'll be back.

We came for opening night two weeks ago and it was lovely. There were the inevitable learning curves and stress tests but it was great! My PGH salad came out without fries but they remedied it with a side of fries when I asked about it. The Mac and cheese was great and so creamy!! I also really loved the cornbread - that may be the sleeper menu item must get. It was incredible. If you haven't yet read the SF Gate article about the founder and this place, do it! It's such a cool place, fun vibes and incredibly reasonably priced and delicious food! We'll be back!

AMAZING!! The food, the staff, everything was great! I wish I could remember the name of our server but she was the sweetest! Our kids are super picky & even they loved the food! Our 11 & 7 year olds were all about the schwings (probably spelled wrong) & the Mac & Cheese. It was great to see that the place was full of people & people kept showing up. Also if you've never had their jerky, run to your nearest farmers market or pick some up from the restaurant, you won't be disappointed!

I've been a fan of Fungi Foods since trying them at the Walnut Creek farmers market, so I was excited to visit their new actual restaurant location. However, my experience was honestly kind of hit or miss. Finding the place is a real challenge. It's just a plain red brick building with no permanent signage plastered on the storefront; only a small sidewalk sign out front. If you are driving by, it is incredibly hard to tell it's a restaurant and very easy to miss. On the plus side, the interior is very nice, clean, and organized. They even have card games laid out on the tables to keep you occupied while you wait, which is a fun touch, and the staff is genuinely welcoming and polite. Unfortunately, for a fully vegan restaurant, a lot of the food we ordered ended up being quite bland and lacking flavor. The Caesar salad was my absolute favorite. It was highly flavorful, and I appreciated that every piece of lettuce was well coated in dressing. The mushrooms made it taste even better, though I do wish the lettuce pieces were a bit smaller as it was a little difficult to eat. The cornbread was my second favorite, especially with the butter it came with. It was very flavorful and not dry at all. The butter made it taste like a dessert, which I personally loved, but if you prefer savory cornbread, you should skip the butter. The garlic bread was also good, buttery, and not dry. The main dishes, however, missed the mark. The loaded BBQ Cajun Mac and cheese was decent when you got a bite with everything combined, but if you eat just the macaroni and sauce without the mushrooms, it is completely flavorless. The lasagna also really lacked flavor and just tasted like plain vegan cheese. Lastly, the loaded chili cheese fries had nice, crispy fries, but the toppings were disappointing. There was an overpowering tomato taste rather than a true chili flavor, and I couldn't taste the cheese at all. I love supporting vegan businesses and the hospitality here is wonderful, but the main dishes need a lot more seasoning and they definitely need better signage out front.

Hello everyone, on 5/15/2026, my wife and I, had an amazing experience at "Fungi Foods". I had a mash and gravy KFV and my wife had the mash and chili KFV. The food was amazing, the service was also excellent. If you haven't tried Fungi Foods it's a must try spot. Oh yeah, don't forget to order two cornbread's with your meal it's delicious. All in all, I give Fungi Foods 10 stars the place has a good amount of space also to dine in.

Got the delicious FKV bowl at the farmers market. The batter for the fry was very good and well seasoned, and so was the sauce. Paired excellently with the mashed potato's and corn. Super friendly service too, definitely worth checking out.

Mashed potato gravy bowl, Cesar salad, and cornbread

I ordered the Cesar salad and the mashed potato bowl with gravy, corn, ranch, and buffalo sauce and a side of corn bread. Everything was so flavorful! The service was very friendly. I'll definitely be going back to try the other things that were so hard to choose between. It all sounds so good.

I've always seen Fungi Foods at the farmer's market but have never tried it until they opened up a stationary location in Oakland. They are located in what looks like a garage-like space (on a street where neighboring businesses have the same format). It can be easily missed as they have a small sign (probably because they just opened this spot recently). However, very cute indoor decor with tiny mushroom vases and mini card games on each table. Their hours are also pretty limited on the weekends, so we came here for dinner on a Sunday. That being said, it wasn't super busy. Food came out within a reasonable time and service was great. Servers checked on us a few times through our time spent here. I ordered the BBQ Cajun mac and cheese which was a rec from our server. I loved how silky the cheese was and the noodles were cooked perfectly. It looks like they drizzled a mildly spicy mayo on top with sauteed mushrooms. Although I loved the mushrooms, I did feel that they could have used better ones such as oyster mushrooms rather than the regular button/bella mushrooms. But overall, the dish was delicious and I do not regret ordering it. I also got to try the gochujang sandwich - fried maitake with brioche buns, cabbage/slaw, pickles and gochujang sauce. The filling tasted deliciois but I think the buns could have been less flat and more fluffy. Fries that came with it were very crispy to my liking though. Overall, solid spot and would recommend bay area vegans to at least try it out!

Soft Opening, today, 3/26/2026 - Free Cornbread all weekend!

The service team was friendly, attentive, and did a fantastic job throughout our meal. During our visit, I repeatedly saw the manager calling employees by name from across the restaurant and summoning them over while they were busy. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere for both the staff and the guests. At one point, he interrupted our server while she was taking our order to ask her questions, disrupting the interaction. At the end of our meal, the general manager introduced himself and asked us to leave a positive review, specifically mentioning this location. While I understand the importance of customer feedback, the request felt awkward given what I had observed throughout the meal. A general manager should lead by example. Treating employees with respect and allowing them to focus on serving guests creates a better experience for everyone. I hope this improves because the rest of the team and the overall dining experience were genuinely excellent.

One thing to note about the location is that there is no built-in restroom within Pippal, and they share a restroom with the mall's second floor that's around a 3 minute walk away. The space is elegant and tastefully decorated: great for date-nights and gatherings alike. The volume inside the restaurant is not too loud. The service was spectacular - Salman was incredibly funny, accommodating, and gave amazing recommendations for our first time here. We were just in time to experience one of the last days of the Alora x Pippal August collaboration, a fusion between coastal Mediterranean cuisine and regional Indian cuisine. We went with Salman's suggestion of the family-style izgara aile tarzi, a loaded plate of mixed grill of chicken shawarma, lamb adana kebab, shrimp pincho and beef shashlik. We also ordered butter chicken and masala fries, and mango lassi from their non-alcoholic drink menu. The shrimp pincho was undeniably the standout dish. The juicy shrimp meat complemented the vibrant flavor from the adobo marination process, and I loved it even though I never eat shrimp! The butter chicken was also quite tender and flavorful, which I really appreciated. I would definitely recommend it! Thank you to Salman and the Pippal Emeryville team for having us.

They are open again!!…read more I visited Millennium the day of the re-opening in June 2026. I was so happy to find out that the food is still among the best food I've eaten, vegan or not. The new concept is prix fixe dinners on the heated, covered patio, and à la carte inside for walk-ins. I ordered from the à la carte menu and it was awesome. So easy. So delicious. My table ordered the cascatelli pasta, smoky glazed tempeh, coriander & arborio crusted oyster mushroom, and for dessert the summer sundae and chocolate tart. We were sharing so I got a taste of everything. Just amazing. It tastes just as good as before but feels much more approachable and affordable with the new concept. And you can still get the fine dining experience if you want it. I can't wait to go back on a Tuesday to try the pizza. I've heard it described as the best vegan pizza in the Bay Area by people who know what good pizza is, and I can't wait to try it. All food is vegan, and almost everything is gluten free.

I came here with my family, who had been here before it closed and re opened. They have a fixed…read moremenu and an à la carte menu. You can only order the fixed menu on the patio, and the à La carte menu inside. But it doesn't say that anywhere. This is one of those places that takes a paragraph to describe a dish, but you still won't know what you're getting unless you're the chef because of the descriptions and names that they call things. We decided to stay inside and go à la carte. My family each got the veggie burger, and I went with the pasta. They seemed to like their burgers. I like my food to be a bit more straightforward, so I thought the pasta would be a safe bet. It came with a smear of pesto on the side of the dish which, although looks fancy, made the dish very impractical. Mixed in with the pasta was some arugula and cooked cherry tomatoes which they describe as a confit, but they're not. Just cooked tomatoes. The shape of the pasta was kind of difficult because it splits length wise and makes it impossible to stab with a fork, which you have to do in order to get some of the pesto on it. Over all, it was good, but I think I'd prefer a different shape of pasta and have the pesto on it instead of on the side. One thing that kind of bothered me was that my pasta came with no sides of any kind. And the portion was "fancy" so it wasn't generous. But it was the same price as the burger, which was piled so high that you literally can't fit it into your mouth, and they came with a generous side of veggies. So my family took half of their burger and all their sides home after only eating half each, and I finished my pasta and had room for more. For the same price. So I'd say the pasta is not a good value. Service wise, we had to ask for them to bring drinks that we ordered, even though they weren't busy. The ambiance was ok. Music not too loud, so we were able to talk to each other. I definitely wouldn't have chosen to come here but I guess people like places like this. I just like to know what's going on my food without needing an encyclopedia and a decoder ring.
