This place is simply DELICIOUS. The food is also filling and nutritious, can't beat that. A great option if you are vegan or are just tired of the meat sweats and need some tasty fiber. They had green mango and chocolate pies when I went so of course I tried both. Green mango was unique and the chocolate was phenomenal. Service was excellent. Vibes are great. Will come back.

The full fixed dinner menu with collards, squash, yams, rice, salad & more! So good.

This is delicious, fresh, and unprocessed food - a vegan dream, but I really enjoyed it as a pescatarian. The service was quick and kind, I had some of the hot tea and a kombucha to start. It's important to know that they only serve what is written on that whiteboard and it all comes on one plate. I don't think you can find out what this meal is in advance. I liked that though, because it means that what they're making is high-quality and created from what was fresh. There's also a very tasty mixed bean and vegetable soup that I ate too quickly to get a picture of :) I would definitely recommend this restaurant for groups with diverse palates but vegan friends, or if you're just craving really fresh fare!

This place has to be a Vegans Dream Restaurant! Its Foods Presentation was amazing. The man who took our order explained the restaurant's special meal of the day. I can't believe it look like Good!

Exceptionally high quality vegan and organic food cooked by Tibetan Buddhists. I have been coming to this place for over a decade and it never fails to satisfy me with the variety and healthfulness of the food made with love and compassion for all beings. Yes, it's that good!

Amazing! The person who took our order was SO nice! The food! Every item had incredible flavor and the salad dressing was to die for. I planned to go here for months it's only two miles away from me on my way to work! I will def have to stop in more often! Just amazing and a great amount of food! Cute little place and outdoor eating also. It's spacious. I love it I will be back!

What a lovely spot. I came here for lunch, had pea soup with the medium plate - they don't have an a-la-crate menu but a fixed one that changes a few times a day. The food was simple but very good, I enjoyed it. The soup was a bit salty for my taste and I'm not a fan of vinegar on salad (personal preference), but the cooked veggies with rice were delicious. It felt like the food was made with love. There's something about a place like this that feels good, like a home-cooked meal, for that reason I'll happily be back when I'm in that area! The server shared that the chef had Tibetan background but trained in Japanese cuisine. Overall a great experience, glad there are places around that feel like soul food. Also, they use organic ingredients

I will write a 5 star review every time I eat here. It's that good. Been coming here since 2013, and never get tired of it. The food is simple, you just choose regular or large essentially. Everything is vegan, non gmo no additives and super healthy. The items change daily, and are always good. In 2013 I ate here for 2 1/2 weeks straight (weekdays when I worked) and never got tired of it. Hands down my favorite vegan restaurant. It's run by the Buddhist temple as I understand and it's super quiet and the energy is great. Everyone is super nice Ps the deserts they have (limited quantities) are all delish

We walked in at 11am to a warm smile I was pretty full right after the green split pea soup. My favorite part was the salad with basil lemon agave dressing, then the adzuki beans, collard greens with shiitake mushroom onion sauce and then the cabbage/rice. It's a warm environment with a simple daily menu --you can choose full or moderate as the two sizes. As my friend said, " In an era of incessant faux meat, Shangrila stands out with its whole plant based ingredients, simplicity, and space of tranquility." I gave it a 4 because I prefer some crunch in my food and a little less wet, but I can see why some vegan friends love it too.

Wonderful organic meal. It has similar offerings to the one on San Pablo so I imagine they're related somehow. No sugar (agave in the pie), I haven't seen any wheat/gluten or dairy. It's a relief to not need to make decisions except for the size of my plate and if I want pie or not. Though I saw I could order a single item for $6. Having the free light caffeine tea or to pay for a flavored kombucha is also offered. The atmosphere is clean, peaceful and quiet except for traffic outside. I wish they had a bit of gentle music or chanting playing. But a great respite from noisy places with overly detailed menus. And I always enjoy having the Dalai Lama overseeing a room.

Today's meal items. Everything here was delicious!

The food was very good. They only have one meal option available each day. You can choose to have it in a large or medium portion. I was a little disappointed because I was craving broccoli. It's the first time I had seen this type of menu at a sit down restaurant but the food they had was very good. Friendly service and plenty of seats. (Please be careful about hiding all the valuables in your car if you park in the area. The car we used to get there was broken into and items were stolen.)

Would this be a good place for someone who has celiac disease / can't have gluten?

Depends on the menu, which the last I checked is limited to a single meal with 4-5 components, and is posted daily on the website. Vegan doesn't mean gluten free, obviously, but the fare is simple, straightforward, and not filled with wheat items.…

The owner Abby D. is also the chef and her love and pride in her cuisine shines through her cooking. Having eaten Ethiopian food only in the US, this is the best version that I've had across Chicago, NY and DC. They offer indoor and covered outdoor seating, giving it a homely comforting vibe. Since it was just the two of us, we ordered the vegan sampler and the lamb tibsy (spicy). The lamb was delicious and well spiced. All the dishes were served on a platter of injera - sour, spongy bread that just soaks up all the flavor to perfection. I enjoyed the red lentils (misir wat), yellow lentils (alicha) cabbage and carrot stir fry, collard greens and a house salad that had a dressing which perfectly complimented the rest of the dishes. They also offer additional injera should you need any - we didn't. You eat with your hands from the common platter, but they do provide additional plates and silverware should you need it. The portions are generous and we ended up taking some of the food home. They have a bunch of dishes I'd like to try, so I'm definitely going to be back!

Came here for a very late lunch on a weekday with some friends for a celebration and had the entire restaurant to ourselves which made it seem like a private event! For food, there were a lot of options to choose from. For appetizers, we ended up going for Litti Chokha, Assorted Chicken tikka, Achari Paneer Tikka. The paneer stood out the most out of all the three appetizers, it was soft and flavorful. The chicken was a tad bit dry. Litti Chokha was also decent (haven't had it a lot in restaurants here in the US, so it was a welcome change). For main course, we ordered butter chicken, paneer makhni, kofta and garlic naan. Both the butter chicken and paneer makhni were a bit on the sweeter side for me, but still, the dishes tasted good. Kofta was a surprise - not everyone would like their spin on the kofta: it was creamy, again a little bit sweeter for my pallet and had an unusual paneer filling. They do have some nice collection of Indian fusion cocktails. Our server was very patient and extremely polite, overall, had a good time at Pippal.

They are open again!!…read more I visited Millennium the day of the re-opening in June 2026. I was so happy to find out that the food is still among the best food I've eaten, vegan or not. The new concept is prix fixe dinners on the heated, covered patio, and à la carte inside for walk-ins. I ordered from the à la carte menu and it was awesome. So easy. So delicious. My table ordered the cascatelli pasta, smoky glazed tempeh, coriander & arborio crusted oyster mushroom, and for dessert the summer sundae and chocolate tart. We were sharing so I got a taste of everything. Just amazing. It tastes just as good as before but feels much more approachable and affordable with the new concept. And you can still get the fine dining experience if you want it. I can't wait to go back on a Tuesday to try the pizza. I've heard it described as the best vegan pizza in the Bay Area by people who know what good pizza is, and I can't wait to try it. All food is vegan, and almost everything is gluten free.

I came here with my family, who had been here before it closed and re opened. They have a fixed…read moremenu and an à la carte menu. You can only order the fixed menu on the patio, and the à La carte menu inside. But it doesn't say that anywhere. This is one of those places that takes a paragraph to describe a dish, but you still won't know what you're getting unless you're the chef because of the descriptions and names that they call things. We decided to stay inside and go à la carte. My family each got the veggie burger, and I went with the pasta. They seemed to like their burgers. I like my food to be a bit more straightforward, so I thought the pasta would be a safe bet. It came with a smear of pesto on the side of the dish which, although looks fancy, made the dish very impractical. Mixed in with the pasta was some arugula and cooked cherry tomatoes which they describe as a confit, but they're not. Just cooked tomatoes. The shape of the pasta was kind of difficult because it splits length wise and makes it impossible to stab with a fork, which you have to do in order to get some of the pesto on it. Over all, it was good, but I think I'd prefer a different shape of pasta and have the pesto on it instead of on the side. One thing that kind of bothered me was that my pasta came with no sides of any kind. And the portion was "fancy" so it wasn't generous. But it was the same price as the burger, which was piled so high that you literally can't fit it into your mouth, and they came with a generous side of veggies. So my family took half of their burger and all their sides home after only eating half each, and I finished my pasta and had room for more. For the same price. So I'd say the pasta is not a good value. Service wise, we had to ask for them to bring drinks that we ordered, even though they weren't busy. The ambiance was ok. Music not too loud, so we were able to talk to each other. I definitely wouldn't have chosen to come here but I guess people like places like this. I just like to know what's going on my food without needing an encyclopedia and a decoder ring.
