Can you dig it... I just relived my 80s/90s youth in here. From the music to the arcade games to the vibe of the party goers. $5 well vodka tonics or $10.50 for Goose. You can't beat the free games. Played some NBA Jam, TMNT, Super Mario, and my favorite SF2. I didn't get to try the food, if and when I come back to El Paso, I will check out the menu.

I was passing by El Paso on my way to LA and decided to check this place it out due to its great reviews on Google (apparently Texans aren't big on Yelp. Lol) Walked in, got wanded at the door (Texas) and walked into a 80's/ 90's scene. The music was on point, there were retro arcade games, darts, a stage with patrons dancing, and an overall good vibe. For food, we had the Montecristo and Totchos. The menu on Google is like 3 years old. Please use the one I uploaded, that is ALL the food they have. I highly recommend the Montecristo sandwich, it's like a sandwich is a donut. I know, sounds weird... but just trust me. If you're ever in town, swing by. The staff is on point, music is great, and there is a very diverse crowd. Lots of parking.

Well I found out that the chef from Tom's was here I knew this was a must try place. I always thought this place was a bar, but I soon found out they had a new concept, I guess. Walking in the scene sure looked like a bar, there was one poor girl working the entire floor by herself including the bar. She was killing it though kuddos to her. We sat ourselves and she quickly greeted us and got our drink order. She was quick to bring the drinks out and take our order as well. It was 5:30 and as we waited for our food the place started getting busier. Our food came out quickly which was good because I was starving. For the kids we ordered the pulled pork slider trio and fries. The sliders consisted of a pretzel bun pulled pork and BBQ topped with coleslaw. The coleslaw really overwhelmed the meat, it was kind of odd to have inside the burger instead of on the side. Didn't really like that, but the meat was perfect and so was the bread. My husband and I got the mint julep tea which was both delicious and refreshing. We ordered the carnitas torta with Mac and Cheese. The torta was amazing really, the bread was soft and the meat was nice and tender. You could not really taste the avocado aioli which kinda sucked, because after all what is a torta without avocado. But none the less it was really good. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious in every which way. We also shared the buffalo chicken fries. The fries were like curly fries but not curly. The chicken was tender and the sauce, ranch and cheese really came together nicely. As more people started coming in I realized that other people had their kids as well. It was like a bar in there, all the parents were standing around drinking with friends while their kids were playing arcades. I mean it's not really my thing to get wasted while my kids are around, but whatever floats your boat. We played the arcade games and we really did have a good time. The service was really good and the staff was very friendly. Now I know where to go if I want to go out to a bar but don't have a sitter..... lol jk

Funkmeyers has been known as El Paso's first arcade bar and home to Tacoholics, but last winter, a chain reaction of events caused the culinary stars to align. Tom's Folk Cafe closed its doors while Tacoholics announced it was leaving Funkmeyers to open a place of their own on Zaragoza. Mourning the absence of Tacoholics and Tom's was quickly replaced with elation when Funkmeyers revealed that their kitchen would be headed by Chefs Lawrence Acosta and Michael Diaz de Leon of Tom's, as well as Dark Horse Tavern and Comfort Co. Tasty Eats food truck, respectively. Funkmeyers salutes all things '80's and '90's, so the chefs naturally created a menu that draws from childhood favorites, pub food classics and border flavor. The whimsy begins with a non-alcoholic beverage menu of housemade kool aids and shaken teas that are just begging for a shot of liquor. Minty sweet tea, hibiscus tea, coconut tea and other fruity teas are refreshing, but you can't resist the housemade kool aid syrups that flavor fizzy mashups called Purple Burple (grape) and Ecto Cooler (orange tangerine). No more separate food and drink tabs, the ordering process is now streamlined with a friendly wait staff that will take care of everything. The menu lends itself to sharing with a variety of flatbreads, pretzel bun sliders that are mini versions of their full-sized sandwiches, funky fries (pulled pork, cheese sauce and more), and deviled eggs, which get the wing treatment with blue cheese, buffalo sauce and pickled celery. Speaking of wings, they make all of the sauces from scratch, all containing a laundry list of ingredients. The mac & cheese should be called mac and capital C-H-E-E-S-E, because under a blanket of melted cheese lies penne pasta swimming in a rich cheese sauce of green chile and Cajun-spiced bacon that hints at smoky chipotle, garlic and rosemary flavors (I tried it without the bacon). To cut through the richness, try a refreshing salad of mixed greens with roasted citrus supremes, Israeli couscous and toasted, sliced almonds in a citrus vinaigrette; avocados are mashed right in, binding each ingredient together for the perfect bite. The "between the bun" section features elevated comfort food, which comes with their hand-cut fries. They have a couple of options that might convert any carnivore into a vegetarian, if not for a few minutes. I'm still dreaming about the Beet Milanesa torta. It's served on bread that tastes as if it was slathered in honey butter. Beets are sliced, breaded and fried, and tied together with avocado aioli and greens; it's one hearty meal that touches on all flavors and textures, complimented by the vinegary heat of a crisp chile curtido (house-pickled jalapeno). Finish strong with a root beer float served with the flavor-of-the-month ice cream, made from scratch of course. Also offered are molten chocolate cupcakes with a churro bite or a weekly feature, which has previously included ice cream sandwiches, like brownies with rocky road ice cream and lemon sugar cookies with Froot Loops cereal milk ice cream.

These TV's show music videos of the songs the DJ is spinning. Very cool stuff.

Where in El Paso do you go if you're part of the older crowd, want to hear "throwback" 90's jams, and want to dance? Your answer is Funkmeyer's. When you walk in, the first thing you'll probably notice is this giant gorilla draped in Funkmeyer's gear. King Kong's hand is big enough to sit in; a great photo-op. Hit the island bar close to the entrance or the bar that hugs the left side for some drinks. Even on a busy weekend, I was still served in a very reasonable amount of time. All the way at the end of the Rec Room, is a stage. You'll see people time to time take the stage, getting their groove on. Feel free to join them. The arcade machines that line that walls on either side make for an enjoyable diversion, and I believe they are "free play" on weekends. There's a good selection of some classic games. Chances are though, if you're there on a Friday or Saturday night like myself, you're not there to game. The music is the big draw. It's loud, but the place is big enough and it's not enough to leave ears ringing after a night out. As far as the actual cuts played, expect a lot of hip-hop and some R&B from the 90's, with a few modern tracks sprinkled in for good measure. They have nights for trivia, karaoke, and Rock en Español on Thursdays. Can't speak for the other days, but karaoke night was decent. Not a large crowd, or anything spectacular about it, but that's far from the focus of this review (karaoke usually isn't my thing, if it's yours, you might like it). What I love about Funkmeyer's is that it's a great place to cut back have a good time. It's not rowdy like the bars on Cinci/EPTX/etc. The air of pretentiousness that you might notice in some other East Side bars is non-existent. You don't have to be dressed to the nines to fit in; you'll fit in fine with a t-shirt & jeans. And everyone around you is there to enjoy themselves. The place is filled with people dancing, drinking and living it up. Funkmeyer's definitely brings the funk.

    Arcade games
    Aldrin S.

Nostalgia overload. If you're a 90s kid, you'll love this place. Everything from the decor to the music reminds me of my childhood. They also have an assortment of arcade games (NFL Blitz, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, The Simpsons, pinball machines, etc.). These games will bring you back, complete with the frustration of the machines eating your quarters. They didn't play any new music, so that added to the experience. From what I remember hearing, they played Master P, R Kelly and Kid Rock. Funkmeyers seemed like it was divided into two parts: Tacoholics and the bar. With that said, we had two different servers. One strictly for food and the other strictly for drinks. We paid for our food right as we ordered and paid for our drinks at the end. It was a little confusing, especially when it came time to tip. Both servers were AMAZING. I ordered sirloin and chicken, street style tacos topped with chorizo and the nachos --it was delicious.

I ordered the calamari and the skirt steak. The calamari was very crispy, and came out super fast (like, within minutes). For starters the atmosphere was so cute. Absolutely loved the bar and hanging pots everywhere. Such a clean restaurant and cute vibe. Our waitress was very nice and friendly to us. So no issues there! For drinks I got their berry lemonade which tasted just like lemon juice. I had to request for sugar to be added since it was so sour so beware. My food had came out and to be honest I'm just a little bit disappointed. The rigatoni was cooked but the sauce for it was really not tasty? Like there was almost not a flavor I can taste. Of course there was something but it was very plain and barely even there. It also was not spicy whatsoever. I added grilled chicken too and oh boy was that dry dry DRY. The burrata personally I'm not a fan in general so of course I wouldn't be a fan this time either but they gave a nice little plate full of it. They added some oiled toasted bread and it was way too crispy in my opinion. My partner got the chicken Parmesan and his dish tasted great! Very juicy chicken and cooked all the way. The sauce was perfect too nice and flavorful and great pairing with the chicken. His butter noodles were just like regular butter noodles so not bad. Finally the crème brûlée. Probably the most disappointing dish we ordered. It took repeated stabs to break the sugar glaze on top. Me and my partner were honestly thinking that they added the cream on top to hide how burnt it was actually. Unfortunately because the glaze was so thick and burnt it made the rest of the cream taste have the burnt flavor. It was sad because my partner was looking forward to this desert. Also took wayyy longer to arrive than our entrées. I will say that the waitress was very helpful and she actually covered the crème Brulé. I didn't even ask she just offered, I think she could tell that we didn't enjoy it and I had nicely told her it wasn't what we were expecting so thank you sincerely. Overall I think this is a perfect spot to maybe try drinks and hang with friends. Food was okay, wouldn't try it again in that regard but overall a decent spot here in El Paso if you're looking for something new. Maybe best to ask what's their best dish to serve. Overall thank you.
