So this event is either you love it or hate it. With other beer festival that occur around the same time here in south Florida, this is one of the most organized. If you are a beer nerd, this is the festival to go to! If you are NOT a beer nerd, this is STILL the festival to go to! 1) Not Crowded-It's not crazy crowded. There's nothing worse than being in the South Florida heat with a bunch of other people pushing and shoving to get to beer. 2) Cost-It's not that expensive. There are other festivals that are much more and far less options 3) Lines- Other festivals you wait in line for an hour, especially if its a booth of really good brew, but not this festival. Almost no wait. 4) Variety- Other than various types of beer, you can find mead and cider, which is a nice change if you're not into beer.

Funky Buddha's MBCP Festival was by far the best beer event my wife and I have ever attended! Everything from the parking (free everywhere, short walk), to checking in at the entrance (swift and hassle-free) and the overall tent, bathroom and food truck layout (spacious) was well-executed! Kudos to FBB! The beer selection was incredibly tasty, with (what appeared to be) mostly Florida breweries to choose from plus some highly regarded guests from other states (such as Wicked Weed). These were the highlights: - Ticket price... it's well worth the $50/person, plus you're not required to make a minimum bottle purchase like you would at some of the other bottle release events in Florida (after the event, we ended up buying a few MBCP bottles anyway). - The selection leaned more toward the heavier, darker ales (the darker, the stronger, the better!) - The event never felt too crowded and the lines were never too long, meaning, FBB didn't oversell tickets (like other beer events have). - The vast majority of the beer actually lasted for most of--if not the entire--4-hour event. From what I could tell, most brewers' kegs weren't starting to kick until the last 45-60 minutes of the event... that's good planning! - Can you say "DRAFTZILLA"?! When all was said and done, and you had tried most of the guest taps, you could always rely on FBB's giant "draft vans" offering a seemingly endless supply of liquid heaven! So much to choose from... so little time! - FBB's Last Buffalo in the Park, Last Snow, and of course... their newly-released Maple Bacon Coffee Porter!! Such oodles of goodness. No doubt, we are definitely returning to the event in 2019... and plan to bring new Funky Buddha fans with us! ;-)

You guys already know I don't like coffee, and I don't care much for porters, but I do like hanging out with all my friends and drinking hard to find Berliners, so this event was right up my alley. PRO TIP for next year - buy your ticket way in advance!! The GA with 1 bottle tickets sold out about a month before the festival! I've been to previous Funky Buddha events, but this was different (and I believe they plan to do their future events in this fashion). First off, there was an entrance fee. Yes a little annoying, but I can deal with it. Secondly, it was not at Funky Buddha, but instead at Jaco Pastorius park. I was a little worried about the movement into the park but in the end walked away pretty impressed. Yes it was maybe a hair too crowded around the 7-8pm mark, but otherwise the space felt big enough, the grass was in good shape (I hate walking around dusty/muddy parks in flip flops) and Funky Buddha had laid everything out in a way that made sense. Shout out to all the volunteers that kept everything moving smoothly, and even the cops who made crossing the road to get back to my car a breeze! Despite studying the beer release list ahead of time and making some notes it was nice that they handed them out upon entering the park which gave me more time to study and allowed my friend Julio to point out some other beers I had missed. We headed over to the ticket tent and started off with 10 tickets between us for the 4pm releases. In just about 1.5 hours we had our fill and mingled with other friends to wait for the 7pm releases (and bought another ~10 tickets lol). Like I mentioned the lines at 7pm were insane, but moved quickly and we were able to try everything we wanted. The next day I had quite the challenge trying to enter all my beers into Untappd lol. I hadn't planned to eat at the festival but eventually after watching Angie, Jennifer and Colleen enjoy some mac and cheese I got pretty hungry. Hope, Steve and I wandered around to check out the food trucks and I ended up getting pulled pork over plantains, which was delicious (from The Rolling Stove?). Overall it was a great afternoon/evening and despite the initial forecast looking like rain it ended up being the perfect weather to share some beers with friends!

Got a free Yelp cozie for checking in!

I was BEYOND excited to attend this event!!! I mean, who doesn't want to try nearly 100 different types of beers amongst food trucks while hearing live music? Sounds great, huh? Well, it really wasn't all that. The live music wasn't good. The band itself was alright, but they weren't playing anything recognizable or enjoyable. This event was rain or shine, so I understand that it goes on even though there's a downpour. But there are things you can do to make it more comfortable for your attendees. We payed $10 for parking in basically a swamp. The parking area was small and grassy, which = mud thanks to the rain. We payed $8 for the entrance. We purchased eight $6 beer tickets. Not even ten minutes into the event, and it starts to POUR RAIN. My boyfriend and I waited for almost an hour hiding under our umbrella because there were very limited tents, and then decided to try and get our money back for the drink tickets. Not the entrance or parking. Just the drink tickets. After all, it was difficult to try and get a beer in the pouring rain, and none of the beer trucks had cover. It's very disappointing that Funky Buddha did not accommodate. The idea of this event is awesome. I think that with more care it would be better executed and enjoyed by everyone.

I was actually vising a different…read morenearby cultural institution when I spotted the Fort Lauderdale Greek Festival presented by St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. On a whim I decided to check it out and I am happy to report that i had a great time. It was right before the cold front was moving down from the north so it was a gray and drizzly day but the festivities helped to brighten it up. Parking was available for free in Holiday Park across the street. It was just a short walk over but there was even closer parking for $20 in the Art Serve parking lot. Admission at the gate was $5 cash or card. This year was the 46th year of this annual festival so they really know what they are doing. The church has secured a number of local partners to support them. The festival was created to share the traditions of Greece with the Ft. Lauderdale community. You could take a free tour of the church, listen to a lecture and authentic Greek music, take in a Greek cooking demonstration, shop the bazaar and Greek Grocery store, view a traditional folk dance, and possibly my favorite, indulge in the decadent food and drinks. The festival menu included spanakopita, tiropita, cheese saganaki, loukaniko, ribs on the grill, shish kabob, Greek fries, gyro sandwiches, souvlaki sandwiches, moussaka, pastitsio, roasted chicken, braised lamb shank, stuffed peppers, butter beans, Greek salad, rice, and lemon potatoes. Make sure to save room for dessert because the choices included kourambiedes, almond crescent cookies, diples, katafi, baklava, kok, ekmek katifi, pasta flora, rice pudding, galaltoboureko, koulourakia, tsoureki, ravani, karithopita, and melomakarona. As the weather turned colder throughout the day, the loukoumades, a fried Greek donut drenched in syrup and sprinkled with powdered sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts paired perfectly with a strong Greek coffee that warmed me up. Of course I had to leave with a few pastries to take home. I thought all of the food offerings were reasonably priced for festival food. I also appreciated that they don't require you to first purchase tickets which are turned in for food like a lot of other festivals. I was easily able to Apple Pay everything I wanted with no leftover or wasted tickets. After eating I enjoyed watching the children dance as people threw money up in the air around them to support their lessons and costumes. There were so many vendors to shop from selling Greek jewelry, accessories, beauty products, wine, and more. They also had carnival rides for the kids. I was really impressed with how large the festival was and how friendly and welcoming all of the volunteers were. The Ft. Lauderdale Greek Festival is a wonderful experience for all ages.

We loved watching the traditional dances and even learning a few steps ourselves--it really made you feel immersed in the culture. And the food... wow. Everything was incredible. From savory favorites like dolmades, saganaki, loukaniko, and lamb shank to the desserts (don't skip these!)--baklava, assorted Greek cookies, and authentic Greek coffee--it was all delicious and worth every bite. Beyond the food, there was so much to enjoy. Vendors, cooking classes, a carnival, and plenty to see and do for all ages made it a full-day experience. But the true standout for me was the church itself. It's absolutely stunning--each painting is beautiful and meaningful, and learning the stories behind them made the visit even more special. We loved every part of it and truly can't wait to go back next year. If you're on the fence, go--this festival is a must. An amazing time all around!

With a huge opportunity to bring culture to the South Florida community, it was largely missed. Checking in seemed disorganized but once in you walk through a tunnel of dolphins. Spitting you out to the craft section. Prices were as low as 2.00 all the way up to 500.00 with oriental rug stitching. The craft section also serves as the they're for the puppet show. This I thought was charming especially since the team of actors have been putting on shadow puppet shows for over 50 years. Than there's a small beer and wine stall along with an off brand food vendor ran by event staff and Chan's restaurant. All vendors were serving generic Chinese food. Which is a shame for such a rich culinary culture. The loop than puts you to small playgrounds and the King Fu theatre and over to a dinosaur ride section that has nothing to do with the Chinese Lantern Festival. Than it's to the light displays that wraps around the lake. All displays were cute but no where near the displays that could be accomplished. At 20.00 a person the Kung Fu show and Shadow Puppet Show ended up being the two small options worth any time or resources spent at this event.

I had already walked away to sit down and eat before I realized it. Oh well. Food selection was good but they tend to run out of items by the end of the night. I had a turkey leg, a burger, empanadas and fries. All were good. There isn't much respite from the sun. I would recommend a sun shirt or a towel to cover up or stay in the shade as best as you can. Definitely use sunblock. We saw some severely burned concert goers. The Nashville stage was the only one with shade. It had up and coming artists. It was fun. No VIP area. The Sunset stage was the secondary stage. It had Ice Cube, Dustin Lynch, the Wheeland Brothers, The Fray, and Sons of Legion, among others. The main stage had Russell Dickerson, Colbie Caillat, Kenny Chesney, post Malone, Riley green, uncle cracker etc. As VIP, I had no issues with lines for food, drink or bathrooms. However, getting from one stage to another was a challenge. All the ticket types mix together and there was really only one walkway which made it slow and annoying to go back and forth. There has been mention that they need to have a separate walkway to super vip. I would buy the super vip ticket if they did that. There was one fight that broke out in VIP. I don't notice any other fights. It's crazy- you spend all that money and you still can't get away from the riff raff. I would go to this concert again. Next time I will do the SVIP so I can have a shaded area to view the concert and so that all my food is included that way if I get the wrong burger, ir some too g that I don't really like, I can go again and get something else. They also have an air conditioned tent to get away from the heat a bit. We shared the pool area but that "pool" is more like a bowl of water. I didn't see any filtration system so it's probably full of urine. I never saw them empty or refill it so by Sunday I'm sure it's a cesspool. Yuck. Getting to the concert was easy. We walked from our hotel. At the end of the night they close the Main Street there to let everyone walk out. It was very safe. I don't get any merchandise. Things seemed a bit overpriced and I did not want to hang on to it all day. They have lockers that are expensive. SVIP gets a locker included and they got a concert style insulated mug. I would admit the SVIP isn't much better than the VIP and of course I'd never bet my moneys worth of food and drink, but I would do it for comfort. We shall see about next year. Hopefully I'll be on the early presale list because we went this year. Tickets go up over time so it's cheaper to buy early.

Now layer in live music from names like Post Malone and Kenny Chesney, plus a crowd that somehow feels massive and tight knit at the same time. That's Tortuga Music Festival. Here's the simplest way to put it If happiness had a ZIP code, it would be the Tortuga beach. Or this one Three days, zero worries, and just enough sunscreen regret to remind you it was real. But what really separates Tortuga is the purpose behind the party. Between sets, you're surrounded by ocean conservation efforts and real education around protecting marine life, especially our sea turtles. You come for the music and leave knowing you accidentally did something good for the planet. Not a bad trade. This year, one honest knock. The main stage sound felt low and at times it was tough to fully catch the performances. You could see the energy, just not always hear it the way you wanted to. A little more volume and this thing goes from very good to elite. Even with that, this is still a five star experience without hesitation. Because it's bigger than just the music. It's friends, family, sun, sand, and moments you end up talking about all year. And the people watching... just WOW! Tortuga isn't just an event. It's a tradition. And I'm already counting down to year nine.
