    Sneak peek at Imaginary

Gateway is such a cool theater with old school vibes! They are currently remodeling some of the theater. I love that they offer a bunch of actual food options aside from normal popcorn and candy. Prices there are very reasonable and it's one of the only theaters that still does ROCKY HORROR midnight showings. Located by several restaurants and bars as well, this place is great for a date or a fun afternoon movie!

This is a cinema with four distinct theater rooms. A total of about 690 seats. They pride themselves on showing movies from the past and the present. This theater hosts many specialty films like foreign and International Film festivals. During regular movie showings, they have $5 day on Tuesdays....all day. There's free parking in the back of the theater. The concession area is small but it has the basics...popcorn, candy, chocolates, pizza, drinks, etc. Nice staff, comfy chairs.

The Gateway theater is being renovated and is under construction. The Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival is showing a lot of films there this year. The concession area sells food (chicken nuggets, etc. ), popcorn, candy, etc

Let's be clear here - there's a shortage of movie theatres catering to classic, foreign, and independent films. There... I said it. We can go on now. Bearing the aforementioned, it's with real pleasure that I introduce to you The Classic Gateway Theatre or Gateway Cinema as it's sometimes referred to as. This cinema has been around for I don't know how long, but what I do know is that it makes up a trio of cinemas in Broward County all catering to not your usual run-of-the-mill movies. The other two cinemas part of this group are Cinema Paradiso and Savor Cinema for those that are curious. Anyway, this place has something going on for it that I haven't seen in years for this type of specialized theatre. What is it? FREE PARKING! Yes folks, you can park for free in the back. Or if you rather be closer, go and pay at a parking meter. You have options. As for tickets, well - get them at the front or just get them online. If you get them online, know they'll e-mail you your tickets. They'll also text them to you an hour before showtime, which is pretty convenient in this modern age. Inside the theatre, you have reception in the center. They direct you to where you need to go, as I do believe there are multiple rooms inside for different showings. When I went last weekend, I went to see Parallel Mothers, which happened to be in the first room near the bathrooms. At the same area of reception, you have some snacks available for purchase. I didn't bother with any, but it's nice to know they're there. Something unique about this theatre is that they're welcome to commentary. Once the movie was over and done with, I walked out and found myself in front of a corkboard asking my opinion on the film. You can literally grab an index card and a pencil, write what you wish, and then tack it onto the corkboard. Made it a very memorable evening and one which I intend to repeat soon.

Such a classic scene here. Reminds me of the super theater growing up. Along with the typical popcorn and fries they also carry food menu with items such as chicken pasta alfredo , sandwiches, pizza etc. They were kind enough to prepare a marinara pasta meal minus the meatballs with garlic bread. It was pretty freaking tasty. If you're a fan of the cinemas this is definitely a stop for you. If we are just looking in for a good deal on a movie this is also your stop. I went here for a movie screening and left with a great impression, ready to come back for a date night. Oh, also, there is free parking after six! That's a pretty good offer considering the location.

Man, you want to talk about a blast from the past! We recently attended a birthday party at the gateway to see Jungle Cruise. We have grown accustomed to the theaters with big, leather, reclining seats. Theaters with snack bars that serve wine, beer and full menus! Theaters that have stadium seating that fits hundreds of people in them. This... is not that! :) What the gateway lacks in frills, it more than makes up in that classic theater experience. The smells of fresh popcorn, the look and feel of walking into my childhood, the flapping noises everytime you get up from your seat. This theater instantly brings me back. It has been a while since we had been a theater and the gateway was a great first trip!

Established in 1951, this movie theater cinema features first run and independent films. This renovated vintage theater doesn't have the new type of recliner seats but it is a nice viewing experience.

I've been an A-List member for a while now, so I come here very often throughout the week/month, and the consistency is what keeps me coming back. The staff has always been amazing! Quick, attentive, friendly, and helpful. Especially during opening nights for big movie releases, the bar area becomes such a fun atmosphere. It honestly adds to the whole movie experience. The seats are consistently clean, the theaters are well kept, and anytime there's ever been an issue, it was clearly something out of their control. I think only once I dealt with the card/internet system being down, and even then the staff handled it as best as possible. One small recommendation: when scheduling movies, maybe don't put a super intense action movie right next to a quieter horror movie because sometimes the sound bleed can happen a little. As I'm writing this, I'm literally on my way to watch two movies back to back tonight haha. The perks of A-List are honestly worth it if you're a movie lover. It also pays for itself! It's like $25 which typically once you watch (2) movies, you already over paid, so yeah, it's worth it! You can add friends/family and reserve seats together, which makes planning way easier. Free upgrades, popcorn seasoning, credit vouchers, and more. Overall, 10/10 experience every time I come here!

(I hope so). Other than that the Food was good, and the Movie was good!, the Appearance (not good)!

Well, the parking was steeply priced in the public garage then a short walk to the IMAX building which is also the home of the Museum of Discovery and Science. Paid for my $20.00 ticket through the IMAX online portal. Then waited like cattle in a huge line leading into the theatre. The best seats are oddly the center of the back row since the movie screen is 60 feet tall from the floor to ceiling (six stories tall). Middle aisle down would get you dizzy looking directly up to watch the movie. We had great seats and the movie was good with fabulous dolby sound. Tonight I went in to catch another film but unfortunately they only have one movie playing called Intersteller, which I already saw ten years ago (I guess they show old movies). So instead of the movie, my wife and I went outside into the courtyard and learned about the giant two story clock that drops balls onto a coaster. Not sure if it was just an artistic thing or just a conversation piece or both. The IMAX manager, Alexis, gave us a quick lesson. Only two of these clocks made in the world, one in China and this one here and is in motion daily from 9am - 530pm.

We got there early to hopefully make it close to the screen. The pop-up concept sounded popular and I knew the lot that was being used wasn't that big right off the 17th st causeway. Even though we were plenty early the first couple rows were full of cars. There was alot of like minded people just happy to be out seeing a movie under the evening sky. We still landed a nice spot though. It was actually a perfect night despite it being a little warm. I parked my SUV backwards and we popped the hatch to sit in the back. We prepped a couple drinks and snacks and I tested that the sound from the radio channel sounded good. Everything was nice, I even remembered to bring some chairs in case we wanted to sit in front. The movie was great. The picture was clear and the sound was as well. We had seen "Dirty Dancing" plenty of times before so we were able to just enjoy being there and talk some as we knew the beats of the movie already. As you can imagine movies are not new releases but they sure picked some good "rewatchables" and we decided to go on a Friday, to start our weekend in the right relaxing note, and watch Dirty Dancing. The place was well organized, they had people to check you in (no contact, once you bought your tickets you are on the list and they scratch you up upon arrival). Then guys with mask guide you to your parking spot and that's it. You set up and enjoy the movie. The same guys that helped park also did rounds to make sure everyone had their car lights off and were all practicing social distancing. They also had two food trucks and a tent with drinks and snacks for purchase, again, everyone wearing masks. The movie was timed perfectly to start playing as soon as the sun went down to give us the best view on the screen. Great way to spend our Friday and do something (safe) out of the house during COVID times.

The interior lobby still has that 1950s ambiance with the vintage framed poster of the Rocky Horror red lips hanging on the center wall to excite every customer. For $5.00, the staff provided movie prop bags of popcorn, squirt guns, party hats, elastic glove, party popper, and a sheet of newspaper (these are all items that encourage the guests to be interactive during the film). A verbal disclaimer was issued at the beginning of the night alerting everyone that if you are easily offended and in fear of getting wet then "Get the F**k out !" The movie itself was a modern retelling of Snow White with some quirks. The movie was in French and I heavily recommend it. For those who don't speak French, don't worry as there are subtitles. Anyway, the movie theatre itself is small and intimate. I believe there is only one room where they show movies. The bathrooms are adjacent and were quite clean. They have a food stand up front, and on that day, Josh was manning it and running around after us. I'm not too sure how normal the set-up we had was as it seems the movie theatre was closed just for us, but I do have to say I was impressed. They gave us complimentary water and popcorn, and given my tardiness, I was even sought out personally in the dark to make sure I got my goodies. It was impressive the effort they were putting forth, especially compared to the average movie theater worker. We ordered a couple of wines which only the manager could pour. That was the only negative, as it was about 15 minutes for him to come to the front, and didn't seem too interested in working. The new owners did an excellent job transforming the entire theatre--brand-new seats, screens, flooring, concessions, you name it. The upgrade feels total and intentional. The recliners are an absolute dream. They lay back into a full, almost horizontal position, and the option to heat your seat was a game changer for my sciatica and sciatica-related discomfort. That feature alone deserves applause. There are three seating tiers: Standard, Lux, and Dine-In. We chose the dine-in love seat to make the most of the 3.5-hour Avatar movie. The privacy panels around the seats made the experience feel cozy and surprisingly intimate--like watching a movie from your own living room, but better. We ordered mozzarella sticks, a hot dog, and popcorn. Yes, it's theatre food, but it was all fresh, tasty, and honestly better than most. Totally worth it. Now for the one disappointment--the cocktails. I ordered their "popular" Malibu rum mix and what arrived was straight juice. No rum. No hint of rum. My husband confirmed it wasn't just me--pure juice. On top of that, the bartender was slow; the drink didn't come out until we were halfway through eating. My advice: stick to beer or wine, and place drink orders separately from food. Even so, we had an amazing time. The movie quality was IMAX 3D, and it was flawless from start to finish--crisp, immersive, and top-notch. Overall, this theatre has leveled up in a big way. Comfortable, clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. We'll absolutely be back and will 100% choose the same dine-in love seat recliners again. Highly recommend--just skip the cocktails!
