    Masking 'IMPROV' Phun!! #EddieGriffin

When you GET the "Gals Trip!" Let's pack-up our cars and take a short-ride to have fun. That includes comedy! Win!! Great time at Improv-Cleveland shared by the Dozen'ERS! Had really good seating and drinks. Not a quiet laugh in the group! It didn't help that 'Eddie Griffin' was in RARE FORM! Hysterical...the language on that katt! Did not DIS'appoint!! And I am sure when I speak for the gals, we had the BEST waitress. Punctual, friendly and super Cool!! IC is centrally located in downtown Cleveland. When comedy calls for another ride. Will definitely be back for more funn'isms and icey sips!

I love the Improv. My husband and I like to attend comedy shows as a date night. We drive up from Akron and it's totally worth it. The comedians are great and the prices for the tickets are reasonable. We typically arrive early and wait in line for a bit. To enter the room, the hostess stamps your hand and another hostess escorts you to your seats. Tonight we were seated left stage and two seats from the front. I was a little nervous sitting so close but neither comedian picked on the crowd so that was great. The server took a while to come by but she was very friendly. We all ordered drinks. Their starwberry daiquiris are delicious. We love coming here for date nights and will continue.

This past weekend I went to the Improv for my very first time to see TK Kirkland with my mom and her friend. My mom's friend received free tickets to the improv for her birthday. Which I think is an amazing deal! I can't wait until my birthday to get free tickets! I really didn't know what to expect when we came in. I just know everyone has had the experience of attending the improv. I really like the layout and the view of the place. It is right on the river and you get to see the other restaurants and bars across the way. It is really pretty at night. They offer multiple shows which I appreciate- and we attended the later show. They also pour great when you are ordering an adult beverage. I didn't get to try any food- only ordered the fries. But the improv is know to have good food. I will for sure be back for another show and I already know what I would like to order to eat!

Every show I go to see at the Improv is worth the trip. You can go see well known comics for a decent price and not so well known ones on the cheaper side. Ever seat in the theater is pretty much a good one and they do offer a dinner menu and cocktail menu. The food menu doesn't have much variety and is overpriced for the quality of food you get. You can get a nice cocktail like the cocaine lady but skip the daiquiri's to avoid disappointment. Tip: Fill out the info sheets that is on the table. It gets you on their email list for specials and you may even get the call for free tickets for you and 7 friends.

I love when places give things out for free. Awesome way to promote your business and it makes people happy of course. I won 8 tickets to see Pablo Francisco here the other day, very cool. Although it left me thinking about how I didn't have 8 people to bring, but that's besides the point. Anyways, I was super excited about the whole thing and my five guests and I more than made up for our tickets with booze purchases. The venue is small but not lacking in style. Great stage that really let's people get up close to the action. I love the colors and lights that accent as well. Let me tell you, that bartender must have had a twitchy arm when making my drink because it was stronger than everyone at my tables put together. Whew! Who doesn't like a strong drink when paying $9? Pumped! The service was awesome. I didn't get a cherry in my drink and after making a joke about stealing someone else's, the waitress brought me my own cup full! She knows how to please guests! Honestly my only complaint was the chairs. Super hard. When you're sitting there for two hours, your ass can flatten. Butt bone on a hard, flat surface is no fun. I will be returning again for more laughs!

Inside the powerhouse is the Improv. The decor and atmosphere was ripped right out of the 1990s,…read moreespecially the Aqua colored neon sign above the bar, possibly stolen from the Smash Club [Yes, from Full House]. Service could have been better, the lone friendly bartender was clearly overworked, leaving half the bar to wait for a few minutes. The drinks weren't that cheap, $3.75 for domestics. I had a gin and sprite which was average. Inside, the seats are first-come, first-served, but you can reserve a specific table in advance. Although my 6 foot frame sat 2nd row from the back, my view wasn't blocked and only 200 feet from the stage. Acoustics were ok. As Amy said, the menu inside is generic pub grub. Although our server was ok, 18% gratuity is automatically added to all checks :( Although it's been over a year since I was last at Hilarities (I'll be going soon again though!), Hilarities was a bit more swankier in the atmosphere with a wider selection of drinks and food.

A gentleman caller asked how I felt about comedy clubs. I answered his question skeptically,…read morebecause I was just sure that I didn't understand what he meant. "I like comedy clubs...I guess...I don't have a lot of experience with them, I suppose. Why?" I felt like maybe there was this dark underbelly to comedy clubs that I just didn't understand. He explained that he didn't get to go to comedy clubs very often because some of his friends refused to go. As we made plans to visit The Improv in the flats, we pondered the reasons why someone would not like a comedy club. We couldn't come up with a definitive reason, but we figured there are two big reasons: 1). You don't want to be the target of jokes. 2). You don't want to feel awkward when the comedian just isn't funny. We encountered this first big fear as soon as we were shown to our seats. We decided to do dinner before hand so we arrived around an hour before show time, as their website demands of those who plan on eating dinner. We looked at one another as he picked up his tickets and he said "oh boy. I hope they didn't put us up front." Upon seeing our table, we both knew we had two huge targets on us. We were clearly on a date, and sitting not only next to the stage, but so close that the comedians were going to have to step over us to get on the stage. We are the perfect people to heckle; non-threatening and good sports. When I had to get up during the main act to use the restroom, I emotionally prepared myself for whatever he could through at me; but surprisingly, he was pleasant and funny with his rendition of the bladder control drug commercial's theme song "gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right now!" The other big fear people have over comedy clubs is awkwardness. What do you do when the comedian is just not funny? We certainly experienced that with all three comedians we saw at the Improv. It is inevitable; a comedian will bomb with at least one joke. I think what makes him a professional is how he handles it. All three of these comedians all acknowledged the fact that some of their jokes just weren't as funny as they thought. All three got laughs in their response to bad jokes. They found a way to smooth it over so we never had to feel that awkwardness. I would like to suggest there is a third fear associated with comedy clubs, felt only by people in their twenties. 3). Do people our age go to comedy clubs? They just aren't "hip." There is certainly a sense among twenty somethings that only "old" people go to places like the Improv. I am not going to dive into the sociology of that thinking, or what the demographics actually are at comedy clubs. I am just going to say that is the perception. I will admit that I was on the younger end of those there, but certainly not the youngest. There was a nice mix of ages in the crowd and I had a great time. I took advantage of the fact that it wasn't the IT place in town and ordered a strawberry daiquiri. I feel that there are very few times that I can have self respect and order a strawberry daiquiri. Don Pablos comes to mind. A great Aunt's birthday party. Maybe a graduation party. As a somewhat fashionable 26-year-old woman with quisi-hipster friends, a strawberry daiquiri is not acceptable while out on the town. But at the Improv, I figured that my indiscretion could slip by. The daiquiri was great. I recommend everyone order daiquiris. I was also pleased with my burger and fries (both were tasty). I have a new rule: whenever I am presented with a menu which includes both entrees which seem slightly pretentious and "pub grub," with the "pub grub" listed at around $10 less than the entrees, I MUST order something from the "pub grub" category, or else I will feel totally scammed. Trust me on this. If the entrees were that great, the pub grub would be great too...and there wouldn't be a price discrepancy and the "pub grub" wouldn't seem so grubby. I don't think a little fear of heckling and awkwardness should stop anyone from stopping by the Improv. I hear people complain all the time that they are tired of the old "dinner and a movie" routine. So mix it up and try the Improv on your next date. We had plenty of time to talk before the show over dinner and then got to laugh together, and at our selves at points, during the show. We left knowing one another a little better and having more to talk about. If it makes you nervous to be picked out of the audience, ask for a table in the back. If it makes you nervous when the comedian isn't funny...well, then order some daiquiris. Everything will be a little funnier.
