The people who run this organization are incredibly charitable and put so much effort into these dogs and cats. I recently visited and they had three dogs available. They were happily running around inside their enclosures outside under the shade of the tree. There were lots of other dog runs/kennels that looks much smaller, but also like they were no longer in use. There were not a lot of animals to choose from-but maybe that's because they all found homes or were in foster homes when we visited. Hopefully that's the case-and they are getting closer to their goal of No More Homeless Pets!

The kittens were always very well taken care of and you could tell that they came from quality foster homes. Very reasonable, adoption fees, spayed, and neutered and current on vaccinations. I've also had the pleasure of fostering kittens with Second Chance. The owner does what she says and supplies you with everything you need to take care of the animals. The commitments are not long and she is able to take the animals back as promised and on time. I recently was in there, and there was a woman trying to adopt a dog. It was obvious the woman did not have a home. The owner was not going to allow the woman to adopt the dog because she did not have a safe place for the dog to live. Although the woman was very upset, the owner was very professional and kind as she explained that she could not in good conscience adopt a pet out that didn't have a safe environment. percent she is concerned about the welfare of the animals. I will always refer people to them whether they're in the market to adopt an animal or if they're interested in fostering or volunteering there it's a great place with low overhead and a lot lot of love.!

They give you all the info you need for adopting for the first time. All vaccination shots for the pup were administered except for the rabies shot, as that has to be done over 4 months old. No one was willing to help us, but PFLU did! The owner (I'm blanking on her name) was SO kind and drove an hour each way to rescue our girl. She said I'd have to pay $400 to have my pitt picked up and her head cut off to test for rabies. Then officer Martinez took pics down my shirt under the guise of photographing my injuries I'd sent via email. I had to to bring my pit to the shelter, pay $150 so officer Martinez could sexially assault me by taking pics of my chest (I was wearing a sleeveless tank under a jacket) . Skip the pet shops and come check out their Tiny Town that is also full with puppies. We recently fostered a dog and the Humae Society was absolutely wonderful to work with. They're also a great organization to volunteer at! If you don't have time to volunteer consistently you can come from time to time to walk dogs or read to the cats.

When you sign in, they allow you to go back on your own and take the dog out yourself to walk them or spend time in a room with them. I had never experienced such freedom when going to a shelter to meet a dog. I took the dog I visited with on several walks around the shelter and also spent some time in a room with him. While there, a man whose cat was caught and brought to the shelter was yelling obscenities and threats to the staff. While the staff handled it calmly, there were many of us who witnessed this. They probably need a security officer or something to assist them when people are so intense. I would consider possibly adopting from this shelter in the future.
