I've been going to this shelter to volunteer since February and I can confidently say that the…read morestaff takes great care of the animals. They are very thorough regarding adopters and also very detailed regarding the rules. You can feel that they want only the best for animals there. Gated areas and grass areas are always monitored so that there is no poo laying around. They've changed their hours recently so it's great for a lot of people who don't have flexible schedules but they want to volunteer or adopt.

I had a very disappointing experience with this shelter when my wife and I were looking to adopt…read moreour first dog. We were excited to welcome a pet into our home and completely fell in love with one of the dogs there. After speaking with staff, we decided to take the foster-to-adopt route to make sure she would be a good fit for our lifestyle. We invested in everything she would need--leash, harness, and other supplies--and were genuinely hopeful. Unfortunately, it became clear that she was not the right fit for our home. Some of the training and behavior information we were given did not match our actual experience, which made things challenging. We ultimately made what we felt was the most responsible and compassionate decision for the dog--that she would be happier in a home better suited to her needs. The reason for my one-star review is how we were treated when we returned her. When we arrived, we were asked if we intended to adopt, and when we said no, the reaction from staff was immediate and cold. Before we even had a moment to process, the leash and harness we had purchased were abruptly taken from my hands, and that was the last time we saw the dog. Not only was this handled in an incredibly unprofessional way, but the items we had personally purchased were never returned to us, effectively taking our property without consent. No explanation, no conversation, no acknowledgment--just silence. A survey was handed to us, and we were gestured toward the door. It was an incredibly disheartening and dehumanizing experience during what was already a difficult decision for us. Returning a pet is not easy, and we approached it with care and concern for the animal's well-being. To be treated as if we had done something wrong--and to have our belongings taken in the process--was unacceptable. I strongly encourage anyone considering adoption to think carefully about where they go, as the support and professionalism of the staff can make a huge difference in the process.

They truly are concerned about pets. I have so much positive to say about Rhonda and Second Chance…read morefor Homeless Pets. I've adopted three kittens from them. The kittens were always very well taken care of and you could tell that they came from quality foster homes. Very reasonable, adoption fees, spayed, and neutered and current on vaccinations. I've also had the pleasure of fostering kittens with Second Chance. The owner does what she says and supplies you with everything you need to take care of the animals. The commitments are not long and she is able to take the animals back as promised and on time. I recently was in there, and there was a woman trying to adopt a dog. It was obvious the woman did not have a home. The owner was not going to allow the woman to adopt the dog because she did not have a safe place for the dog to live. Although the woman was very upset, the owner was very professional and kind as she explained that she could not in good conscience adopt a pet out that didn't have a safe environment. percent she is concerned about the welfare of the animals. I will always refer people to them whether they're in the market to adopt an animal or if they're interested in fostering or volunteering there it's a great place with low overhead and a lot lot of love.!

The people who run this organization are incredibly charitable and put so much effort into these dogs and cats. I recently visited and they had three dogs available. They were happily running around inside their enclosures outside under the shade of the tree. There were lots of other dog runs/kennels that looks much smaller, but also like they were no longer in use. There were not a lot of animals to choose from-but maybe that's because they all found homes or were in foster homes when we visited. Hopefully that's the case-and they are getting closer to their goal of No More Homeless Pets!
