Whoever I spoke with is a complete crook. They wanted to charge me over $150 to change air filters claiming that would take an hour. I would love to see someone attempt to make that take an hour. Also they recommended over $10k of work on my used car worth less than that. I cannot believe friends recommended this place. Great experience. Moved from NYC some time ago, but continuously put off getting my smog check. The first two places I called weren't capable of completing the check bc they lacked the tools -I have a 2018 911 4S, that apparently requires more effort. Tom greeted me warmly -as he did on the phone when I originally called, and we were on our way. He directed me to a local business where I cld get a tea and within 35 min I received a text that my car was ready. I'm not sure what rates are, but it seemed to be very, very reasonable. I give Furgerson's Garage 100 stars! For many reasons, but the most important is that I do not feel ripped off when I take my vehicles there. I am single and a woman, so I already have two whammies against me when I go to an auto repair shop - but not at Furgerson's! I really believe they cater to all the single women out there. Among many things, my favorite is that Furgerson's Garage uses an app that is for the not-so-auto-mechanic. The app grades/measures your vehicle's health. This app puts it all out there for you to see and learn about your vehicle! It starts with a colored coded graph/gauge and a point system to explain the health of your vehicle. Again, it's very helpful for a non-mechanic. Furgerson's Garage mechanics literally take pictures of each issue (my vehicles have a shit ton of issues LOL!) explain the issue, label/grade the issue (passed, urgent, non-urgent)...all straight to your phone and at the touch of you fingertips. I mean, how much more honest/forthcoming can you get!? And I know what is important and not important as it is labeled and color coded. And I always have a ton of questions - the office staff i.e Justin, (he is the best, ask for him ladies!) is always patient and seems happy to explain what I just read on the report. But to include a picture is huge for my non-engine knowing ass. I also like to watch my vehicle's health improve with each visit. We have used Furgerson's garage for, ummm, maybe ten years and they have kept our 2000 Acura and 2001 Honda Odyssey on the road with no problems for all those years. They do the requested work (oil, smog etc) and also keep us up to date on what should be done or potential problems that might occur. That is service. There has never been any pressure to get any work done - just suggestions. When we have gone in with a problem, it was taken care of immediately. Did I mention friendly service? It is. I took my cousin's 4 year-old, very low-mileage car in yesterday because the check engine light was on. I typically use another mechanic for her domestic car; but was in the neighborhood for some other business and thought I'd give them a try. I wanted to like them ! It was toward the end of the day (4:30pm) when I went in, so I was sensitive to the fact they couldn't do much more than checking the messages with an ECM reader and make an appointment for a day in the future to have the actual problem fixed. I went in and explained the issue and asked if they could just do a quick check with their ECM reader and let me know what we need to do to fix it. There were 4 people sitting in the office at the time. One of guys immediately told me that these things can be very complicated and the only thing they could do is make an appointment for a 'full diagnosis' that would cost $126 ! That's without any repair. Not one of those four people even got out of their chair to look at the car or ask any further questions - just $126. I left very disappointed since I was hoping they would be great, but now knowing I would never step foot in there again. FYI; following this, I went down the street to my normal mechanic. It was now 4:55pm and they were about to close. I explained the issue and the mechanic/owner immediately grabbed his ECM reader and said "let's take a look". It took him less than 3 minutes to get the diagnostic code from the reader and tell me what the most likely issue was, and what it would cost - which is much less than what Furgeson's wanted to charge me just to get out of their chair and actually look at the car. Very disappointing. read more

Words can't express how happy we were with the work and customer service at furgerson's! We brought in our 1950 Chevy that needed a bit of work and boy did they not miss a beat! Jose called us almost everyday to update us on what the truck needed, parts, estimates and his recommendations. We knew our truck was in good knowledgeable hands! Rich was our mechanic, and was so thorough in explaining everything he worked on, and our live into our truck like it was his own! 5 stars if you have a classic car this is the place !! The guys who work here are great! I called in exasperated with Toyota as they weren't helping me with my on going break issues. When I called, Tom was very informative and went over the process and what to expect. When I arrived, I was greeted by both Dan and Justin who were very friendly and reassured me they could fix the issue! I received a text about an hour later with my break inspection report and was told what needed to be done. Justin walked me through the issue over the phone and it got fixed! Ferguson's gararge just rescued my 15 yr old BMW 530 yet again. 2yrs ago they advised putting some money into it to stop oil leaks and repair worn out seals. Now they have it running smoothly, and it is just a pleasure to drive. VERY disappointing. i do not in the slightest recommend this place. I went here because my car had been slightly chugging as I accelerated on the freeway and the check engine light had continually been going on and off for a few months, so we brought it in just to see if anything was up. We also got an oil change. I had to leave my car for two days and then went back in, and they said I needed over 1600 worth of work on it. I know for a fact they overcharged me and also did more work than I had needed done, but they took advantage of the fact that I am young and don't know much about cars. The work seemed to have taken FAR longer than it had needed to (around 5 or so days extra) and was ridiculously expensive. The part that was most aggravating is that I drive a retired ford crown victoria, which is under a decade old, and those parts are definitely available locally but they shipped them from halfway across the country and that costs SO much. However, these reasons aren't especially why I was so dissatisfied. When I left my car in the care of this company, I assumed it would be well taken car of and would be fixed to the best extent. After what felt like forever as a teenager with no car for around 10 days, I was so eager to get my car back. And to my VERY unpleasant surprise, there was a HUGE crack in the windshield. I was obviously very upset, after spending over a thousand dollars and being without a car for so long. When i confronted the owner about the crack, he claimed he had no idea why/that it had happened, and that he wasn't responsible. OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. I AM PAYING YOU TO FIX MY CAR. NOT BREAK IT. Total BS. And they didn't even let me get a replacement for free, they only went half price on it even though it was their fault. I say find somewhere else. It will probably cheaper and you won't leave with more damage than you began with. read more

Went to get a Brake and Lamp Inspection. They gave me a list of things I failed for...and I could agree on all but one. My drive/neutral indicator light bulb was out on my dash. My understanding of the lamp part was that it involves anything around the outer lamps...hazards, turn signals, headlights, etc. I called around to 6 different brake and lamp inspection specialists across the state of California (cause they all have the same checklist) and each one said it wouldn't be a fail. Finally, I connected with a manager...he said his inspector traveled to Sacramento and worked with the state training people on this. Big whoop. I said the lamps on the inside don't matter...and then he made a point to say, "Well, the ABS indicator light is on the inside, so I guess they do." Again, not pertinent information cause that is an alert that the ABS is bad, which is a part of that checklist. He was grasping at straws and refusing to put his inspector in the wrong. "Basically, he is the judge and jury..." he said about the inspector. Well, if we are going with that metaphor...his inspector made up his own law...cause every other place I called stated firmly it wouldn't be a fail. It's a lame attempt to get my business and charge me an extra $200 to get a pass. It's untrustworthy and slimey. If you need a brake and lamp inspection...go find someone else cause I cannot recommend these guys. UPDATE (3/26): Passed the inspection easily with another shop. They didn't mention my drive/neutral indicator lights...which still don't work, by the way. Again, go somewhere else. It'll save you a lot of hassle and money. read more

Good experience. Had a leaking tire and was visiting from NY. Drove over at 7am and they were already open and ready for business. I was greeted by a few mechanics, they took a quick look, gave me an estimate, took the keys. They called within an hour to say that the tire was a $10 fix and that I needed a new serpentine belt. Once I looked up what a serpentine belt does, it occurred to me that I did indeed need a new one because my car was having symptoms of power steering trouble. I was thankful that they inspected the vehicle rather than just fixing the tire and leaving it at that. $145 later and my tire and belt are sorted and I can continue my trip. In at 7am, done by 10am, no appointment, good experience overall. read more

They completely jacked up my bfs car and had us pay for work that was totally not needed. They overcharge and are in it to swindle you out of your hard earned money. They make dealership service prices look good!!! Beware. Think twice before coming here for anything routine. They will have you plunking down 1000 dollars when all you wanted was a simple smog test. Unfortunately, I have two give these guys two stars. I think they do reasonablly good work, however, they do go on the pricey side and in my opinion, sometimes suggest unecessary work for older vehicles. However, my big complaint is the poor communication and amount of time it takes to repair your vehicle if you are not waiting. Even though I have made an appointment on several occasions, I typically leave my vehicle. Most of the repairs I have had done are not extensive and should not require more than one day to complete. What happens is that I will get a call late in the day telling me that I will need to leave my vehicle overnight. For simple things like shocks and brakes, this seems ridiculous. There has been two occasions were the second day they did not even call. When I do call, they have plenty of excuses but I always feel like they are BSing me becuase there is no reason why it takes two days to put shocks on a vehicle (when it was dropped off first thing int he AM). They also tend to charge a lot. There always seems to be the need for a "diagnostic check" that runs over $100.. I do not like going to a place that does not communicate well and then takes so long to complete the work (and charges a lot). read more

I've spent 25 years as a professional dealing with a wide variety of clients. I feel I have a good sense of when someone is trying to pull the wool over my eyes. I've never felt ripped off or overcharged at Furgerson's. I used to do a lot of my own mechanical work on vehicles. I feel that Furgerson's has always been fair and trustworthy. Furgerson's has kept our 14-year-old VW Passat running (200,000 miles on it.) They've fixed difficult problems that the local dealer couldn't, including a major safety issue involving a leaky fuel line. They have also worked with us to determine whether a repair is a safety issue or merely something inconvenient we can ignore. Only once have we had an issue with a repair. We had some brake squealing a few weeks after a brake job. I called them, they had me come right in. They found that the pads had a manufacturing defect and they re-did all the work with new pads, no charge, no questions asked, problem solved. read more

Soup Nazi meets Chinese social scoring! I would sooner tow my car to Santa Barabara for repair than I would ever go back to this place. Worst customer experience of my entire life. The following is a true story: So while checking in I asked the pointy bearded chap to check out the flashing tire warning light. He asked what warning light and I said the flashing warning light on the dash. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer? There was an awkward pause and I thought 'that was kind of awkward, but he's a guy, just please fix my car ..', but no, I was to be taught a lesson for my apparent rudeness (not so apparent to me lol). They didn't call at all, so I showed at 4p to either drive off in my brake repaired car or leave with the car to go to another repair place. When I got there I was told I couldn't leave with my car because it was disassembled and on the rack and I'd have to come back the next day. I was going to explode and make a scene, but decided against that. I know that this was done with managements approval because the pointy bearded chap that had checked me in gave me a nice long stare to make sure I knew that I was being taught a lesson by Fergursons, which I was and I learned to never go to Fergurson again! Then the next day, just tryng to get my car outta there. 'Tom' told me that I had an oil leak too. I said that I didn't see any oil leaks and he told me that's because it's invisible. He tried to rip me off on several other unnecessary repairs and I passed on those too. God knows what this place does to less knowledgaeble folk; still thinking about reporting them to the authorities .. read more

Huge scammers - they added ridiculous charges and treated me like I was a moron. I walked in, told them the starter motor was dead (which I knew because I did all the tests already), battery was fine, and that I could tow the car to them from around the corner. They added $70 to my bill to "figure out what the problem was" (it was the starter, the tests took 5 seconds), and then when I argued, they justified it because they moved the car a half a block "for free". The repair itself was 20% more expensive than every other shop, so I ended up walking out paying 33% more overall. Just as a last note, just to prove that they're super shady - I saw on their computer screen that they paid $120 for the motor, yet on my bill they wrote $240 for parts - a common tax dodge, since they're supposed to be paying taxes on labor and get deductions for business expenses.
