I've been considering to get Lasik surgery for a few years now. My last consultation (2-3 years ago) from my eye doctor mentioned I still have to wait until my vision is stable. Dec. 2025 - I had my annual eye check up from Bella x Specs Optometry and I asked for facility recommendations and suggested Furlong Vision Correction. I had a pamphlet, looked them up and scheduled my complimentary consultation on 1/6/2025. 1/6/2025 consultation day - Jennifer was assigned to me and she was very helpful! I felt at ease that they werr giving a lot of information about my options and if I'm a candidate for Lasik surgery. Dr. Michael Furlong also checked in on my consultation day. Good news: I'm a good candidate to proceed with Lasik. I asked for potential payment options so I can prepare with the surgery cost. I applied for CareCredit financing and got approved. I then scheduled my surgery appointment on 1/30/2025. There were multiple pre-operative measurements I took to make sure I'm all set. The whole process was easy! I got nervous a few days before my surgery. It wasn't a good idea that I checked videos about Lasik. Anyway, I checked in with Jennifer and expressed my concerns and she addressed it very kindly. Day of surgery (1/30/2025): I followed the instructions I have and made sure I had a good rest. I took the sedative pill they offered so I can be more calm during the process. The actual procedure was fast and easy, thank goodness! Every step -- the doctors where there and they were informing me of what's happening. Dr. Furlong was present and checked my eyes after the procedure. I think it took less than 15 minutes. My vision was very hazy at first and that day, he suggested to sleep/rest as much as I can. Next day (1/31/2025): My initial post-operative appointment. I did have a very irritating itchiness in my right eye that subsided the next day. Again, following as much as I can with the post op activities really helped! Now, it's been almost 2 months. My vision is almost 20/20 though my left eye has -0.50 grade. I've been wearing corrective eyeglasses for 15+ years. My last check up before my lasik surgery was OD: -5.00 DS, OS: -4.00 -1.25 x 180. A huge change and I have way better vision now! I was referred for cataract surgery. I called to make an appointment and told them I had Medi-Cal. They didn't tell me they don't accept Medi-Cal and they booked the appointment. I immediately filled out all of the online forms they asked me to fill out, including insurance that stated I had Medi-Cal. I came to the appointment, went through the entire evaluation, and was told at the end of the process they don't take Medi-Cal. They charged me $325 and wanted me to pay $8000 for the surgery. How in the world would somebody on Medi-Cal have $8000 to pay for surgery? The "counselor" basically told me I'm out of luck despite it being their mistake. Beyond disappointed with this business. I would never recommend them. If I did have to pay, I would not pay them. read more

Positives: The vision care center and its people are great; very caring and great follow-through. Negatives (and a big one): The NVision Billing center that handles billing and payments is absolutely horrible. They were quick in taking my payment, but no quick in processing refunds. It has been close to 6 mths since the procedure and I am still waiting for the refund for the overpayment that Furlong Vision collected from me. My overall experience at Dr. Furlong's office was beyond words. My initial visit with Jen was very thorough along with Dr. Chen, and as soon as they deemed me a candidate for LASIK they scheduled me for surgery. On my surgery day, everyone was very accommodating and very helpful, they made sure I knew exactly what was happening at all times, and my surgery felt like it was only a few minutes. Staff made me feel like family all throughout the process. It was a relaxed atmosphere with everyone smiling at all times. It was completely pain free and my vision was immediately corrected. Dr. Furlong and his surgical team worked their magic on me. There was no issues whatsoever. I'm now 10 days post op writing this and I am able to drive without having to use my glasses. 20+ years of wearing glasses/contacts and I am finally free!! Making the decision to do LASIK has been a long time coming and it is truly a life-changing experience, as everyone has mentioned! I went through quite a few consultations at different centers last year and decided to go with Furlong Vision. This was actually a referral from my SO's optometrist. During my free consultation, they answered all my questions/concerns and they were never pushy at all. I experienced some pushy people at other laser centers so I definitely appreciated the customer service here. I also had a few friends who got their LASIK procedure done here. After my procedure last month, I have had two follow up appointments so far and have another one scheduled in 3 months. I got PRK done here in November 2023 so it has officially been ~6 months since I had the procedure done. I was referred here by my optometrist. I personally wanted LASIK or SMILE done due to the fast recovery periods, but unfortunately I didn't qualify for either because 1) my prescription was too high (-7.50 right eye and -7.75 left eye with -1.50 astigmatism) 2) my cornea was too thin. I initially had a consultation done elsewhere, and they told me that I didn't qualify for LASIK/PRK/SMILE. So when Dr. Furlong told me I qualified for PRK here, I was pretty excited! From the initial consultation to the procedure, the staff was extremely professional, detail-oriented, efficient, and ensured that I was informed on everything from pricing to procedure details to aftercare. The office space is comfortable, clean, and they have snacks and drinks in the main lobby too. The procedure itself was a piece of cake. Each eye took only a few minutes and I was only in the actual operating room for less than 10 minutes. No pain was felt at ALL during the procedure. Staff did great from start to finish, making sure I knew exactly what was going on at all times and no surprises at all. Before I share specific details about my healing experience, I want to emphasize that everybody's healing process looks different, so this is my personal experience only. Day of surgery: felt great afterwards, no pain/discomfort at all. Vision was functional but they recommend you close eyes for remainder of the day + no screens. Day 1 after surgery: dry eyes and stinging when waking up. Sleep helped, and staying on top of the 3 different types of eye drops helped a TON (antibiotic, lubricating, and numbing). Day 2 after surgery: no pain/discomfort anymore, but now very sensitive to light. Vision got progressively worse throughout the day. Couldn't look at screens for too long. Day 3: vision dropped more (as the staff said would happen). Slept a lot since it was difficult to look at screens + still very sensitive to light. Fast forwarding but didn't see too much improvement in terms of blurriness and light sensitivity until ~day 17, then plateaued and fluctuated more, then saw noticeable improvement again ~day 27. Tips: being on top of all 3 drops is a must and super super helpful for discomfort, expect to be sensitive to light, sleep lots, minimize screen time (take 1 week minimum off work, maybe even 2), and don't forget that patience is key. Days 27-33 were when I started to get the "wow" moments of seeing things clearly. On day 33, I had my post-op appt where optometrist said I'm close to 20/20 with some farsightedness and astigmatism. Dr. Furlong did warn me before the procedure that there would be a 90-95% chance that I would be 20/20, and if I were under-corrected, it would be no more than -1.00. Fast forwarding again to my 6-month post-op appt yesterday, I am now at +0.50 (right eye) and +0.25 (left eye) with -0.75 astigmatism in both eyes. Astigmatism is worse at night when driving. Although my vision is not 20/20 and I still have a bit of astigmatism, I'm still overall extremely satisfied with being able to see (almost) perfectly without needing glasses/contacts after wearing glasses for 17+ years! It was extremely worth it in my opinion. PRK is definitely a longer healing experience compared to LASIK/SMILE/ICL, but honestly I would do the procedure + healing process again. Being able to wear non-prescription sunglasses, wake up without needing to put on glasses, being more carefree on trips and not having to worry about glasses breaking, and so much more has been a very eye-opening (haha) experience! I went to Furlong Vision for cataract evaluation. At first they said it's a free evaluation. Then they said you if you have insurance then you need to pay the copay. After the appointment, I received an bill for $75 despite my insurance has made the payment and my copayment. My insurance told me that I am not responsible for making additional payment. They are crook trying to bill additional payment for services that already paid by insurance. They told me it will cost over $7k for cataract surgery for one eye. That's outrageous! read more

I absolutely loved being a patient here. Everyone was super nice and knowledgeable. I ended up coming here for a second opinion after I was told by a different clinic that I wasn't a candidate for LASIK. Sure enough during my consultation with these guys I found out I was an ideal candidate for LASIK. I told them about my denial with the other clinic and they reassured with proof that I was a great candidate for lasik. I ended up going with these guys and never looked back. I was able to get my surgery scheduled a month after the first consultation. On surgery day, Dr. Furlong and his staff was attentive, ensuring I knew what the surgery would entail, answered all of my many questions and informed me of next steps post op. I am very pleased with my experience at Furlong Vision Correction! I had been contemplating pursuing LASIK for many years and finally decided to go for it after the COVID pandemic was less of a concern. I am so glad I did- it is amazing to wake up in the morning with clear vision and not worry about having to discard my contact lenses immediately after water sports or showering or before naps. No more thick glasses sliding down my face or fogging up (my young kids had broken a couple of my frames, too). The office staff was very professional and knowledgable (shout-out to Andres the technician and Holly the refractive coordinator). Everyone on the team was calm and made you feel at ease. The pre-op and post-op instructions are very clear and straightforward. I love that the Furlong Vision Correction provided the one medicated combination eye drop I'd need (vs. other centers have multiple drops with different frequencies of use that you have to pick up from the pharmacy yourself), but you will need preservative-free artificial tears for the temporary dryness while your eye heals. Dr. Furlong was friendly and confident (I heard great things about Dr. Sane, too). His prescription used to be over -7.00 like myself. The surgery day was smooth sailing, he talks you through everything. The only remotely disconcerting moment was when my vision temporarily dims during the creation of the flap, but it was brief and surgery itself was very short and painless (less than 5 min per eye of laser treatment). My husband was in the observation room with a staff member, who explained each step of the procedure in real time. After I went home to rest (sleep with their provided goggles), I saw very clearly the very next day! I am ecstatic about finally being glasses free (at least until age 40 or so when I'll need part-time reading glasses). So my PSA is you should definitely get LASIK/refractive surgery when you're young - in your 20s would be great, so you can enjoy decades of no glasses or contacts! I wish I had done it sooner! I had my LASIK procedure done here yesterday and I already am seeing 20/20! The entire staff was so amazing through the entire process. They worked with my schedule and made my surgery date work for me! One of the technicians offered to sit through the surgery with me which was so sweet. It was quick and easy and recovery is going so smoothly so far! They are transparent about pricing and have several payment options. The procedure itself was fast, there is a lot of pressure when the flap is created but no pain at all and your vision goes dark so you can't see the incision being made. It is a little scary when the flap is pulled back as a pointy tweezer looking thing is coming at your eye but you honestly can hardly see it. The laser of the correction there's no pain or pressure at all. Focusing on the light made it easy to not think about everything else going on. They also played upbeat music in the OR which helped distract me as well. They explained everything as it was happening and was super reassuring. It was overall quick and painless! In the 13 years since I first experienced the excellence of Dr. Furlong when he solved the epithelium cell issue I had, I developed a cataract in my left eye. I got the Lasik procedure late 2019, so it's been a little over 2 years. The procedure itself was pretty easy, it felt like a 80s Sci fi show with lights and flashes but it didn't hurt, just felt weird. I sat around at home for a day and was totally fine. Then comes a little dryness over the weeks and i dropped in the eyedrops multiple times a day. My vision is amazing. I see better than I did with contact lenses which I've worn for around 30 years. I wanted to give it a few months to write this review to see how my eyes heal. I got LASIK eye surgery back in October and it was a surreal experience. From the beginning of my first appointment to even after surgery, each one of their staff have been so great and have taken such good care of me. On surgery day, I remember giving my surgeon the biggest hug beforehand and afterwards, and telling him "Thank you so much for giving me the best gift -- to finally see. I might cry". This is coming from someone who's had bad eyesight for 14 years. The next morning when I opened my eyes and saw everything clearly, was one of the best days of my entire life. That and also getting my eyes checked the following day and being told I have better than 20/20 vision. That I ended up with 20/15 vision. Late review* Got my PRK surgery at end of May and the experience was amazing! Dr furlong is short and sweet and gets straight to the point. The staff was nice as well. During the procedure my favorite part was how Dr Furlong communicates throughout the whole procedure which calmed my nerves. No wasted time was spent during the surgery. Couple weeks after my procedure my right eye would get blurry near the end of the day and in the morning would be clear. Vice versa with the left eye too which is normal by the way, you just have to stay on top of the eye drops. OMG!!! I was as blind as a bat and now I bet I could sharpshoot a gnat off a cow's ass from 500 yards without even waking her up! For REAL!! : ) I had the refractive lens exchange (RLE) on an elective basis since I did not have cataracts. I was able to receive the latest technology in lens (can't remember what all of this was called) and it has been a total life changer. Every night I have to remind myself to NOT try and take out my contact lenses because I don't have any! I actually can see almost 20/20 which is better than I have ever had in my life. No contacts, no toric lens for my asigmatism, no reading glasses over contact lens, no distance glasses - they all had a solemn requiem mass and grand procession to the trash can 4 weeks ago. The service from these medical professionals was absolutely outstanding. Incredible patience, professonalism and care throughout the entire process. I had both eyes done at the same time which was great and the care during recovery was very supportive. Excellent physicians and faboulus office and medical staff. I got Lasik 6 weeks ago with Dr. Sane. Overall, amazing experience, and the results have been life changing. There were a couple bumps in the process for me: 1. One of the machines was down during the pre-surgery lasik consultation, so I was asked to come back again before the surgery. These things happen, but it was inconvenient/stressful since I had already scheduled the surgery in advance 11 days after the consult and couldn't take last-minute time off work. 2. On the day of the surgery, one of the women (who had me sign a bunch of forms) was not very friendly or knowledgable. For example, when I asked if Lorazepam (the sedative offered to patients to help calm nerves prior to the surgery) was a benzodiazepine, she said "no.... it's Lorazepam" after which I realized I wasn't going to get any reliable information from her. I ended up taking half a dose, but it's an oversight not to train employees to know about medications being offered to patients (contraindications, possible side effects, interactions...). Other than that, the process was smooth, the facility was clean, wait times were reasonable, and staff were professional, friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I felt a little like I was abducted by aliens and being tortured during the actual surgery- terrifying and super uncomfortable and at times painful- but as good as I imagine it possibly could be. The process, the anxiety, the research all led me to finally getting LASIK. First off my wife and our very good friend all got LASIK & PRK with Dr. Sane. Once I laid on the bed it all began. It was literally so fast! One laser to create the flaps and the other to reshape my corneas. The only discomfort was the pressure from the flat creating laser but that was it! The crew and Dr. Sane made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Once I stood up from the bed I could see!! Given it was a little hazy but that is expected. I came back a week after for my post-op and I am now seeing 20/15. The results are amazing!! I cannot express how much gratitude and respect I have for the office, staff, and Doctors of Furlong Vision Correction Medical Center. To start off, I applied when I was 21 (June-July 2021) and received surgery after I turned 22 (October 2021). I felt like I was blind as a bat with -3.75 in both eyes (contact prescription). I was also tired of being called 4 eyes my whole life. From health concerns with COVID and masks fogging up my glasses daily, being blind was just annoying, unsafe, and a gigantic headache. I applied in June originally as a new college graduate. I was 21 years old and ready to take on the world, despite the world not being ready for me. I lost almost two years of my young adult life, staying safe indoors. I missed my friends, my family, and my boyfriend. I also missed a Harry Styles concert. The biggest deal I missed was my planned study abroad program. It was supposed to be in Spain and France. My homework was to eat their food, experience their culture, and learn how to cook Spanish & French food. I applied to the Gift of Sight, thinking... even if my story is boring, I tried. I had other consultations at the best LASIK eye surgeons around the Bay Area and I will still willing to pay money to get into Furlong's office. I just wanted to try for the Program anyways. I got a call back quickly from Michelle, who notified me that I was a great candidate and that they would like to get me in for a consultation first. In between the time that I spoke to Michelle and got a consultation, I got the greatest opportunity to serve the community and become a teacher. I spoke with Carole about updating my application and I was able to! I had never planned on becoming a teacher and while it has been the most tiring job of all, it has been the funniest and most rewarding job I have ever had. With being a teacher in a pandemic, I do not have much of a free schedule. I would commute from San Jose to Alameda every single day, but the staff at Furlong Vision did their best to work around my schedule. My surgery day went by so quick. It was supposed to take possibly two hours but I was out of there in 30-40 minutes. Every time I came in, my time and my health were valued. All my questions were answered. The whole staff listened to me, despite the fact that I talk a lot! Thank you so much to Julia, Jennifer, Elaine, Carla, Andres, and to be honest, everyone there! AFTER THE SURGERY: My eyes hurt and felt dry, but that was expected. I constantly used my drops and I rested for 16 hours (eyes closed). I woke up at 6AM in the morning and quietly got out of bed before anyone else in the house woke up. I took off my eye sheilds carefully as I peaked from my sunglasses. I looked up at the moon and I could see all the craters. I could see the details of leaves on the trees. I could look at nature without squinting. It is literally and figuratively a wide-eye moment. I cried and I jumped and cheered as quietly as I could at 5AM in the morning. I thanked Dr. Furlong the next day when he said my corneas healed perfectly. I am still so thankful. It took me a while to write this review. LOL, but considering that I can see EXCEPTIONALLY well (20/15 vision BABY! I can see everything that my students do - they truly believe I have eyes behind my head). All my senses are heightened like I'm from Teen Wolf or something. Moral of the Story: Do your research. Talk with your health professionals, which by the way Dr. Sane and Dr. Furlong KNOW what they are doing. And if it exists in this world, why not try and get it, especially if it makes your life easier! (P.S: My students are reading this for homework. Before eye surgery I had the astigmatism, also I was seriously blind in one eye vs the other. I had my PRK done in September of 2019 It seriously is the best thing I've ever done. I cannot thank Dr. Furlong and the rest of he's partners on giving me the gift of sight!! Dr. Furlong, you are the best! My surgery went extremely well, my recovery was not bad at all. After the days of recovery, I was able to see everything!! I no longer had to worry about wearing my glasses or put contacts in! I've worn glasses since the third grade and contacts since high school. I was quite nearsighted (about -9, -10) and tired of wearing contacts, so I went in for a free consultation in late May 2021. The entire staff and Dr.Sane were all incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, professional, and courteous. They explained my options clearly and what they thought would be best for me as a 23 year old. My cornea was too thin for LASIK and PRK, so I went with ICL. The cost is about twice as much as LASIK, but it is just as effective and definitely worth it. ICL involves several appointments and a procedure prior to the main surgery. My process started as soon as June and the ICL surgery was done in early July. 4 months ago I was wearing contact lenses with a -4.5 prescription and had trouble driving at night. I just completed my 4 month post-PRK op appointment and am happy to say I am completely free of contact lenses and my vision is 20/15. Dr. Sane and her team were very professional--from initial inquiry all the way up to my final appointment. About the procedure and post op: - I had minor discomfort during the procedure (all of which was probably due to overall anxiety... pain itself was minimal) - Immediately post op, the discomfort was manageable (I also slept a lot after surgery, and followed post op instructions closely). Discomfort/irritation subsided after 24 hours for me - I can't remember exactly when my eyesight was back to normal, but I remember it being in line with all the post-op guidance given to me by Dr. Sane - I still need reading glasses (I'm over 40) but my farsightedness is 20/15 and night driving is so much better than what I had with my contact lenses About the clinic: - Furlong wasn't the "cheapest" of the clinics I canvased, but they had the best reputation and I wasn't going to risk going cheap on this - COVID protocols were followed from beginning to end. I now have better than 20/20 vision thanks to the Lasik procedure Dr. Furlong performed. I've worn glasses my entire adult life and am so glad and appreciative of Dr. Furlong and to be a recipient of the vision correction 2021 Gift of Sight program!
