This morning's Sunrise Ride was the BEST way to complete my birthday weekend in Death Valley!! Our guide (Allison, I think...sorry if that wasn't her name...it was EARLY, COLD & I had ZERO coffee in my system..lol!) She told me the day before that there would be PINK mountains on our ride & man oh man, did she deliver! SPECTACULAR colors in the morning on those mountains...just breathtaking. My horse buddy was so sweet & gentle...even when we had a coyote following us (we were last in the line) for about a quarter of a mile. HIGHLY recommend this place, the horses & the guides! We will be back soon!

We had an amazing ride with our guide, Luke. He was so friendly and knowledgeable, and great on a horse. We only did the one hour ride, but next time will do the 2 hour ride. The hour flew by. We rode Jake & Chester... Jake was a tall, beautiful Mule and he & Chester had great dispositions. I'm pretty sure I could have just dropped the reins and Jake would have just kept following the trail. Furnace Creek Stables are clean and well maintained and all the horses & mules are in beautiful, healthy condition. I highly recommend this activity when visiting Death Valley, the views of the landscape are spectacular. Thank you, Luke, for being a great guide!

We were spending the weekend at the Ranch and wanted to end our last day with a sunset ride. Trail guide Max selected the perfect horses for us and our riding experience, then showed us the beautiful area surrounding the resort. He even took pictures of us with our phones as the sun was setting. He was friendly, helpful, and made the experience a great one to end our trip!

For ALL Ages: The Wannabe Equestrian in the family chose Furnace Creek Stables and the Sunset Ride. Both were excellent. Luke, Lacy and the entire Team at Furnace Creek were warm, friendly, helpful, patient and all the good traits an old guy needed to enjoy a ride he didn't want to take in the first place. Riding "Rocket" was great. The Sunset was beautiful. Only one crane and three Cowboys were required to remove the old guy (me) from the saddle at the end of the tour. Highlight of the Tour: The Wonderful Young People - - Cowgirls and Cowboy

Simply amazing. Rides for all experience levels. "Trail boss" Luke made sure everything was perfect for my +2 hour personal ride. I am more experienced than some so we were able to take a little more liberty in the landscape covered! Perfect! The scenery and history fantastic.
We came here during our trip to Death Valley and it was our very first time on horses at a national park. I spoke with Amy and she was very kind, reassuring and also very knowledgeable about horses and mules. We really enjoyed the beautiful scenery, even if the horses are going single file in a line. I heard that you can do more challenging trails with the horses if you'd like but that the sunset and sunrise group tours are more basic trails. The horses were very well-behaved and we had a fun time doing this sunset tour. We would do it again. read more
It's pricy but our family of five including three kids enjoyed it. My youngest child is special-needs on the spectrum - he is very verbal, which is good and requires a certain kind of patience & good humor. Trail Boss Luke, along with Patty and Trinity were very good trail leads. We took the sunset ride, which essentially is just a ride around the Furnace Creek properties, but it's nice ride between the two mountains in death valley. They shared a lot of facts and were talkative. We joined two other families so our group was about 15. Thanks to our horses too George, Abbie, Rocket, Chester and Coal. read more

Wonderful experience! I hadn't been on a horse for over 40 years and this was suitable for a non experienced rider.

We did the 1-hour sunset ride all they did is take us from the ranch to the in and back. The route was very plain and had no attractions. The horses aren't even full bred horses they're basically 25% horse and 75% mule or donkey. Mine wasn't listening so my guide who was female and I believe her name started with M just took the lead rope and guided my horse even though I was commanding it correctly so I didn't even get to steer the horse. Probably will not do it again I've written in Kings canyon and that ride was much more scenic and involved more steering. read more

We visited Death Valley and became aware of horseback riding since it was 50 yards from our room. We walked over and signed up for an early morning 2 hour ride the next day. We had the same person guide us who made the reservations and it was just Trinity and the two of us. I was put on Freckles who they said can handle my weight and we were off and walking. We went out behind the resort and across the street towards the hills for our 2 hours ride. We talked about the history of the place and the scenes were incredible. Horses were pack horses from Colorado and Trinity said there were going back in March or April depending how hot it gets. Horses are very good and no issues with the saddles being lose or anything. We will definitely go back again next time we are in Death Valley. I would do the sunset ride next time. She also told us about the swimming pool being feed by spring water and I went in that same day and it was awesome. Thanks Furnace Creek Stables. read more
Wonderful staff and these are some of the nicest, best-fed horses I've ever seen in a pay-to-trailride stable in my travels. Far from the skinny, underfed nags these things usually have, here the horses were nearly fat, and made good mounts for the ride over some rocky and sandy terrain. The main guide was extremely nice and told us about his experiences growing up in and around Death Valley, as well as some of the local gossip. The ride itself - we opted for the 2-hour session - wasn't all that exciting in terms of sights, but I've been through enough of the valley that I might be somewhat jaded. There were definitely some great views, and it was very leisurely and relaxing. A great option for horse-crazy kids who might otherwise get a little restless out in the Valley. read more

Went on both the sunset and sunrise one hour rides. It was in March (in Death Valley), so not too cold, not too hot, and not at all windy. Sunset tour, led by Brittany, was group of 8 folks. Very relaxing and weather was perfect for an inexperienced rider like me. The horses in our group were gentle and well trained; they followed the horse ahead of them automatically, with little movement needed from the rider. Mine was an 8 year old named Charlie, super gentle, and right size for a smaller person like me. Only difficulty I had was keeping him from eating the unusually lush greenery throughout the trail; even that was more entertaining than difficult. Afterwards, Brittany asked if I'd been comfortable with Charlie, and I told her he was a sweetheart...It didn't occur to me why she asked until the next morning. Sunrise tour was a one hour private lesson, by Luis, and it was a total blast. Staff gave me Charlie again, which told me they cared about my comfort level. I've rarely ridden a horse faster than a walk, so the idea of going faster (trot / canter) was both exciting and nerve wracking at the time. I was quickly put at ease, as Luis immediately made me feel I could go as fast, or more often was the case, as slow, as I wanted. He was an excellent tutor, unlike many instructors I've had in the past, to the point where I was confident in doing more. Most one on one lessons have made me feel self conscious, but that was not the case here. The staff here did a great job. I'd go again in a heartbeat. read more

This is as good as it gets! We had a 2 hour ride at sunset - what a ride. Robin took great care of us. We had a small group and 3 out of the 6 had never been horseback riding before. Robin kept an eye on everyone and made the ride interesting. All of the horses were well suited for the inexperienced rider. The next time we go, we will take a longer ride. It is definitely worth the money. I would highly recommend the Furnace Creek Stables. read more

Terrible experienced riding at this stable. So much dust is unbelievable during the whole tour. People with Asthma could die riding there! A big improvement is needed, or at least Dust is reminded to guests in advance! read more

Well, it's your cliche visit for me. I want to go to Death Valley, girlfriend doesn't, and we comprimise by incorporating a 2-hour horseback riding experience into the trip. I hadn't done horseback riding in 20 years, and all I remembered is that I got a sore butt for two days. Needless to say I wasn't excited. We booked for a Sunday morning ride, and were the only ones there. Two men were there, getting our horses ready. There were very friendly, and quickly set us up. Within 10 minutes, we were on our very big horses and ready to go with Ron, our guide. We rode through an empty parking lot, saw a coyote, then through the hills and to some pretty steep places with great views. Yet, it was definitely perfect for a beginner like me. Ron was wonderful with us too: provided enough detail about the area so that I would be entertained, and provided enough detail about horses and riding experiences so that my girlfriend was entertained too. The two hours went buy quickly, and overall I'd say we had a great time. Also, it was pretty cheap: $65 each for two hours! I'd definitely recommend. However, the girlfriend and I both concluded that next time it would perhaps be best to let her have a private session with the guide (during which she could make the horse gallop). She was a little bored, and the private sessions aren't very expesive ($70/hour I believe). read more
