As fresh as can be, expertly shucked as well.
    Louisa M.

My review is for the Oyster Bar only - and it's a good one. My husband is oyster obsessed, and he made a beeline for Furness' option while exploring Borough Market. They didn't have the lowest prices, but they had the longest line (and the most locals), so we figured it would be the best one to choose. We joined the queue and waited. The fishmongers were terrific, cracking jokes with a London attitude that could perhaps be off-putting to some thin-skinned visitors. We loved it, it reminded us of characters straight out of a Guy Ritchie movie, LOL. The oyster shuckers were total badasses -- they were shucking hundreds of oysters WITH THEIR BARE HANDS -- no gloves in sight. In other words, they were that kind of TOUGH. They were friendly too, happy to answer questions and steer us towards their recommendations based on the flavor profiles (sweet, meaty, salty, rich, etc.). I liked that the oysters were clearly labeled with prices and provenance, which was so helpful. They also had some exotics like fresh sea urchins that seemed incredibly popular with the local patrons. My hubby selected a nice, large tray of assorted oysters, and they even gave him a discount for paying cash. There wasn't anywhere to sit to eat, so I had to hold the tray while he slurped them down. Everything was fresh and tasty, and he had zero complaints in the seafood quality. If you're looking for an oyster bar, this is the place.

    Paella

Out of all the stalls at Borough market, I think this place might have had the longest line. Definitely a big tip to get food from somewhere else first, so that you can eat while in line. Although the line isn't too bad to wait through. And they do take card, but they definitely prefer if you pay using cash. The serving sizes are pretty decent and they don't skimp on filling the plate up. Our plate came with two shrimp and two mussels which were good. But the shrimp was such a hassle to peel and eat, especially when there's no seating, so you just have to stand on the side to eat. But the paella was still good and really flavorful!

    Pretty good Paella. 4 stars

At Borough Market in London, we were drawn to the very long line leading to Furness Fish Grill. We decided to have snacks at other food stalls first because we were hoping the line would go down by the time we returned. Well, we returned a couple hours later and the line was even longer. After watching them cook the Bomba Paella in these enormous pans, we decided to bite the bullet and line up too. The whole time I was thinking that this better be worth the wait. What was everyone in line for? The majority of folks were ordering the Bomba Paella. So that is what we wanted to try also. Happily, the line went by quickly. Within 20 minutes, it was our turn. We bought a plate of their Paella to share. Finding a spot to eat it was challenging because Borough Market is so crowded and busy. Found a spot outside the market to dig into our Paella. Portion size was fine for the price we paid. Their Paella included chicken, mussels, and shrimps. Did it taste good? Yes, it was flavorful. Definitely an above average tasting Paella. It was worth the wait, and I'd line up for it again because it was reasonably priced.

A portion (bowl) of Bomba Paella

As I was walking through Burrough Market I noticed a line nearly 30 people deep. As I approached the front of the line I saw that the wait was for Furness Fish Market. This spot specializes in mussels & fries, oysters, and various seafood items... but the Bomba Paella is a MUST try! The location is very much in the nucleus of this bustling city market. The storefront and "interior," resemble that of a fish market, and there are plenty of food options surrounding this spot. Bomba Paella is the main draw. You will see employees laboring over massive pans of paella that looks ever simmering. Portions are scooped out with wooden bowls which make a tantalizing scraping sound as the portion out the right amounts. The aromas are truly intoxicating, and as the workers move through to change over pans, they add copious amounts of ingredients further adding to the rich smells. The paella itself looks like a beautifully colored and marinated work of art. Each bite is flavorful, yet not too salty. The components are rice, peas, mussels, chicken, prawns, spices, and lemon. If you don't love seafood, no worries, the dish itself neither smells or tastes overly "fishy," and there are huge helpings of rice and chicken. Also, the portions are sizable, and the cost affordable at $10 (pounds) a bowl. Some tips: This spot has a card reader, but they will still ask you if you have cash. At this market, cash is KING. Again, there will be a line, so, if others are with you and want to try something else you might have them duck out of line to rustle up some chocolate covered strawberries or something while you wait. Keep in mind that the market itself closes at 5pm, and while there are heaps of paella helpings, supplies might not last until the clock strikes 5. While I love paella, I don't consider myself an authority on the cuisine. I did however enjoy this bowl, and to me it was well worth the wait!! Cheers!!

    Seafood Paella

This review is just for Bomba Paella that's part of this Fish Market. It was the longest line in the entire Borough Market so I jumped in line to see what the hype was about. The paella was very bland, unfortunately, with too much rice given to me and very little amount of seafood. The mussels themselves were also filled with rice and in a place like the Borough Market where seating was scarce to none, it was hard to find a place to open the mussels, and when I did open them, I didn't even find much meat, and ate a bunch of rice anyway. Having some lemon would enhance the flavor slightly, but not by much. I thought the saving grace was actually the peas that were added to the rice, which says a lot about how everything else tasted. I would recommend this place for the experience only if you come here with others and you share your dish with others. The plus side is that the dish is very affordable. I also saw that the person who was getting the paella for the customers put some back into the big pot for some reason, probably after some customer didn't want theirs, and I am not sure if that should have been done at all? Also, totally understand that it's a busy establishment with such a long line even with some kind of traffic officer, but I was rushed when trying to make my payment and I didn't think that was the right move in terms of customer service. I will let it go because I understand the hardship of this industry can really impact one's levels of patience, but still want to mention it for awareness.

Fresh seafood stand. So many kinds of seafood you can buy!

I really love to go to the borough market. My favorite thing are going to the fresh oyster place and get some mussels at this food stand. This paella and mussels place is located at the center of the market. You can't miss it. It smells so good and I always see many people are waiting in line. I love mussels there. It's only 13 pounds. However I noticed something is really wrong!!! I come from different country so I don't usually have English pounds with me. The guy who always cook mussels telling customers only cash!! I said I have credit card can you take it? He treated me like I'm not a customer! I want to give 4 stars here for the price and tastes. I am only rating two stars because of service sucks. This mussels guy was yelling customers to get cash. He said we are soon not take any plastic cards. It's useless. He also said if you pay in cash, you will get a lot more mussels. So I got a small amount than I got serve there before only because I paid with credit card. This mussel guy treated me like I'm not welcome as a customer because I paid with my credit card??? I'm not sure people who are working there pocketing cash. Maybe this place should be all cashless so maybe the owner can see real profits.

Everything about this stall inside Borough Market is good - food, service and ambiance. Staff are very friendly, energetic which captures the crowd. While one serves, the other starts cooking on a new paella pan. Asked how many pans they sell a day, 8-10 giant paelleras. Amazing They did not skimp on the ingredients - chicken pieces, mussels, shrimp, squid. A must try! £10 a serving.

Paella was a must stop at borough market according to social media so we had to bare the wait and get ourselves an order of it. The line was pretty quick and we only waited about 15 minutes. Ordering was pretty easy but the workers kept the line moving fast, feeling a little rushed. We got a good portion of paella with seafood however, we were a little disappointed. The flavor seem a bit bland, broken pieces of shells throughout, and the rice seemed a little undercooked. It was nothing special in my opinion and there are many other vendors that you should give a try with less lines.

    Mussels from Furness Food Hut

This review is for the Furness Food Hut and for the Furness Oyster Bar @ Borough Market. First off, if you're unsure, just sample the mussels. And then you will for sure buy mussels. This was our first stop and purchase at Borough Market - and we did not regret this decision. They ran out of fries by the time we arrived around 4pm. We had an order of mussels with slices of bread. Fresh, salty, delicious! Right next to the mussels, there is an assortment of oysters. You can get 6 oysters for 10 GBP - but these oysters were ginormous! Instead, we got the smaller oysters 5 for 10 GBP (Boudeuse Rocks) They were crisp and sweet! Kids loved it! We got another round.

I was intrigued by the long line at this vender inside the Borough Market. Lots of people queuing for Paella. I was lucky to get a fresh batch but it tasted very fishy. I love seafood but this was a bit on the over powering side. For £10, it's a good portion.

I don't think anyone can go to Borough Market for the first time without giving the huge pans of paella a double take. And I think food always tastes better with a story. And whenever I think back to all of the time I've spent in London, Borough Market always comes to the forefront of my memories. And Furness Food Hut is the first vendor that I associate with Borough Market -- a magical place for anyone who loves food, London, or both. Sure, the paella might taste better in a sit-down restaurant and it probably isn't as good as anything you'll find a similar food market in Valencia, but does that really matter when you're craving some warm seafood? Marvel at the generous serving of chicken, mussels, and shrimp, fork over £7, and enjoy your meal. (If you come in the half hour before Borough Market closes, they'll be more willing to give you more mussels and shrimp!)

Everyone should try their food, The best Paella and chicken curry in London. The food is sooo good soooo fresh and the staff are friendly and kind.

Really popular booth for the paella, calamari, curry and mussels. I had the paella and I'd say that it was tasty for the first few warm bites, then it just kind of got meh like ok rice. For 7 pounds, I think you can get a better bite, probably go for the mussels or calamari instead.

The part that made it creepy was that as he winked at me he wheeled past a cart of fish heads, scales, guts and eyes. It was an overflowing barrel of fishy carcasses. This kind of service is very fitting to the Steve Hatt experience. Stand around for too long and expect to get splashed by one of the ice cold buckets of water they frequently throw across the floor. Service is loud and jovial. At any one point there seems to be six or seven men shouting out orders and chopping up fish whilst laughing at their own 'in-jokes' and heckling customers. I liked this attitude a lot but was a bit disappointed when I was told that they were too busy to clean up my squid for me. I've gutted squid before but I'd completely forgotten how much of a hassle it can be. For a job that would have taken them five minutes it took me thirty and of course there was the added stress of having my kitchen, clothes and window (?!) covered in squid. Fish Central doesn't disappoint. Old school to the bone. Local villains in one corner, a table of two with Macs out working in another. Me being intrepid in Islington. King's Square might sound grand. But it's shabby. Not shabby chic. Just shabby. All the more thrilling then to find Fish Central nestled in there, across the way from the pub you'd get glassed in if you wandered in for a lager top. The restaurant is bright and airy. White and chrome. Bit of a 70's vibe. The waiters are old men. They are welcoming. I can sit anywhere. I don't need to pick from the menu, maybe I just want a small plate of fish and chips. How the hell did he know that? I nod approvingly and ask if they have tea. Course they've got tea. Stupid question. And it comes in a white mug and saucer. Food comes. Nice piece of cod, crispy batter, decent chips. Chip shop chips. No hint of parsley or lemon. Back to absolute basics. Who needs garnish? Not this lot. Tartare sauce is homemade I think. Absolute bonus. Tomato sauce is Heinz. We can live with that. I plough through it with aplomb. Friday has arrived. Local villains show each other massive respect. Handshakes, hugs and kisses on both cheek. Work meeting looks productive. Everyone's happy because they are all eating good fish and chips and it's Friday so why wouldn't you be? The old men are attentive and brisk. They've done this before. They keep it simple. One wants to know if my Mac is any good. We chat about Macs for a bit. Because he's relaxed. He's done this before. And to see if the breadcrumbed cod is as good as the battered one. There is a take away section if you just want to gobble fish and chips on the go. But my advice is, if you have the time, go in, sit down revel in old school simplicity, confident staff and customers who are pleased as punch to be there. No airs and graces. They aren't trying to be something they are not. They are just good. Really good. And that's good enough for me.
