Today my furniture got picked up the 2 gentlemen were so friendly and thanked me so much for donating. They called me before to inform me timing of arrival. I was dealing with Stella who made all the prior arrangements sent emails with detailed information she was friendly and so thank fulas well.They give tax receipts and minimal charge for pick up. Furniture Bank is a worthy cause - picking up gently used furniture, for a fee, and gifting it to those in need. A tax receipt is then issued. My experience was odd. I received conflicting fees from two reps - Stephen and Dawn. When I asked about the discrepancy. Rather than note that I could get different amounts depending on the rep I was told I had added items with Dawn - this was not the case. The "fee" to pick-up a few items (bed set, sofa, odd tables) was $340. I like what Furniture Bank is doing but not how. read more

I was thoroughly disappointed and unimpressed with the experience I had with FB and will not use them again: While the movers were pleasant to deal with when they arrived, as soon as they carried the items out of my front door, they were careless and treated my furniture like junk. A fine, wood, dining room table that had been in perfect condition was carelessly dropped on my front steps (cement) without any concern about damaging the item. When they picked it up again I saw that there was now a huge gouge in the side - they essentially destroying a perfect item. Later I overheard one of the movers commenting that "most of the shit in my house is from this place." In sum, if you don't give a crap about your things, and want to pay movers to damage your things and possibly take your donations home, this is the organization for you. read more

This is a great charity in concept, but there are many logistical mishaps that will probably ruin your move if you are looking to do a full move out. The prices they charge is on the level with any full service moving company, and you will for sure be disappointed if you expect the same level of professionalism and expertise. I wanted to donate all of my ikea furniture as I'm fully moving out of the country for my 1 bedroom apartment. The quote for the move was $500 and the charity receipt amount was guesstimated at ~$1300. I thought this was a great deal but I should've realized there are no free lunches. The window they gave was 1-4pm on a Friday and they arrived promptly around 2:30 pm with a courtesy call when they were 15 mins out. Not bad. They aren't the most careful with your furniture nor your walls/doors/floors. Nothing was wrapped and I'm assuming just thrown into the truck they had. They didn't even came with a door stopper so I had to hold the door open for them. Everything went ok until they discovered that they did not have the tools to take apart my couch and bed frame. Both were from ikea and one required a wrench tool and one allen wrench. They pretty much said: ok sorry can't take these, will reduce your bill. Sure you can see the problem here. I'm on the next flight out of toronto that was booked according to these movers schedule, my landlord is on my ass to move out, and they are telling me they can't take the furniture that I paid them to come to move?? And they quickly moved on to their next appointment.. So yeah.. if you are looking to just throw out a few pieces, its cool to donate with them. But if you are doing a full move out, stay away unless you are in the 1% of people who have all the tools you will ever need in your basement. Go with other companies that you can rely on for furniture pads, door stoppers, and most importantly standard furniture tools. read more

Every move is stressful, especially moves that are unwanted. I had to downsize recently and unexpectedly. Always a stressful combination. Furniture Bank responded quickly to my request. They came within 2 days (with a 3 hour window, which I believe is very reasonable given the complexities of Toronto). Furniture Bank gave a very reasonable quote, over the phone, based on what furniture I had to donate. The quote was immediate and clearly identified what could (and could not) be included. The person I spoke with asked about each item I wanted to donate, and clearly explained if any items were not acceptable, and why. They provided ample opportunity to include items that I had forgotten. They quickly (within 2 hours) followed up with a call and an email listing the items agreed on, and the time window. There was ample time to include forgotten items. Craig(?) and Zack showed up less than 30 minutes into the 3 hour window. They called to confirm 15 minutes before they got here. They removed all 9 items, including 2 dressers from the basement and a very large, heavy couch. They were professional and very careful of walls, floors, and other furniture, they were very efficient. It took no time at all (especially important given all the things you are juggling during a move). They asked for the exact amount of the quote, no hidden charges. I was very pleased with the process and especially the gentlemen who came to collect my furniture. read more
