I am so lucky to have found Joe through Yelp. My custom made China cabinet was 1" too high to fit in my new condo, so I had been living with it in 2 disconnected pieces for over a year. Joe assessed the piece and was very clever with his solution. A few inches removed from the bottom, casters added so I can move it and secured it to the wall for extra safety. Brilliant! He said he was going to pick up the piece to take to his shop but then he shows up at my doorstep unannounced to fix it in my home. Tried to blame me for this misunderstanding. Joe fixed an antique glass and mahogany china cabinet that belonged to my great-grandmother. I inherited it from my grandmother. The glass is curved and would be irreplaceable if it were to be broken. The glass was so loose that it rattled when we walked by it. Every time we had an earthquake, I was afraid we would end up with a beautiful piece of furniture in shards. Joe repaired it so that it will remain as a beautiful heirloom for the next few centuries. We recently moved to Marin and a number of pieces of our furniture were damaged in transit. Joe (Ye Olde Furniture Doctor) did an amazing job fixing every single piece. There was an antique rocking chair, an antique marble side board, a mahogany drop leaf desk, and four pieces from a matching bedroom set that all needed repairs. Seven pieces in total and all seven were repaired flawlessly. In fact, my wife -- who knew where the damage had been -- couldn't find the repairs on most of the pieces. Nicely done, Joe. We are very pleased that we found Joe on Yelp. He came over today to repair a Danish dining table - in which the screws holding the base together had pulled out of the wood. Within 15 minutes he had taken the top off of the table, analyzed the problem, and determined what needed to be done. He took the base apart, replaced short screws with longer ones, and put the structure together. Once he had repaired the broken side of the base, but he took apart and rebuilt the base on the opposite side to prevent the problem from happening to the other two table legs. Joe spent time talking to me about the best way to care for the table top before leaving. We no longer have our table legs held together with twine -- and I'm sure the repair will last for the life of the table. read more
