We wanted to adopt a kitten after losing our beloved senior cat. I had been filling out applications and kept missing available kittens (it was January, not kitten season). I got a prompt response from Furry Friends. They are extremely organized, kind and great organization. They asked appropriate and responsible questions and asked for my vet and a reference. The kitten I saw online had been adopted, but we got to spend time in a cat playroom with her 2 siblings and choose. The kitten we adopted had been fostered in a home with cats, dogs and kids and is awesome. ( very well socialized and we love him) I had some questions about the vet records and volunteers got back to me quickly. They were patient and gave me great advice on how to socialize the new kitten with our current cat as well. Great organization. read more

They returned my email 2 days after I contacted them asking for more information regarding Vet records which were forwarded to them. I followed up with an email to confirm they received them.. .. Still no response.. Its been 5 days now and a simple return email confirming they received the records and are working on placement would have been good. We just adopted a young cat from Furry Friends and it was a great experience. All of their cats are in foster homes, and unlike so many other rescues now, you get to actually go and meet the cats in person before you adopt. The kitty we adopted was Special Needs and they had already done x-rays and a full vet exam which they immediately forwarded to our vet. Kitty was already fixed and had initial vaccines, all included in the very low adoption fee. The foster family was welcoming and knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to visit with him and make our decision without pressure. After losing our senior rescue my husband and I decided we wanted to continue the tradition of adopting adult cats with special needs. After a little bit of research we found our two boys on PetFinder, two bonded adult male cats that are FIV+. We filled out the REASONABLE AND THOUGHTFUL application online and very quickly were contacted by Lori. She was so professional and kind, and was very knowledgeable about the FIV+ status and answered all of our questions. Lori was thoughtful and transparent about Furry Friends' intention in finding the right family for each of their animals. We in no way felt that this was odd or overbearing, in fact it reassured us that Furry Friends cares very much for their animals and want to make sure they're a good fit for the family adopting them. We are heading into our sixth month with Dutch and Hamish and couldn't be happier. The FIV+ status hasn't been an issue at all and they are in excellent health due to the care they received at Furry Friends. Our boys were bonded as they had been quarantined together due to their diagnosis, and needed to be adopted together. They are healthy, active, affectionate and love people. This is 100% the result of being cared for by Furry Friends volunteers. We highly recommend this organization! Adopt don't shop. read more

Inquired about a cat on their website and was told that no, I could not meet the cat because it was sick. Why was it on their website? Then there's their ridiculous, intrusive, multi-page application that asks for three references and an agreement that they will inspect your home. This organization does nothing but get between you and any pet you are interested in. They help nobody, including the animals. Go elsewhere. read more

Furry Friends is a non-profit, no-kill shelter that goes above and beyond for all of the cats in their care. Entirely volunteer run, all of the money from adoptions and donations goes to medical care, food and general housekeeping for the halfway house. Unlike some other shelters, kittens are not adopted out until they have their vaccinations and are spayed/neutered. Kittens also live in a foster home with a family so they can have the 24/7 attention young cats need. As a volunteer, I've been amazed at how many other volunteers spend countless hours on top of their day jobs to keep the organization running - from answering voicemails and phone calls to doing yard work to writing grants, etc. Furry Friends is also an amazing supporter of FIV+ cats, which many other shelters will euthanize as cats with FIV can wait a long, long time to find a nice home. If any family is no longer able to care for the cat they adopted from Furry Friends, Furry Friends will take the cat back in and find a new home for them. This way all of the cat's history is known and they don't end up at another shelter with no idea of who the cat is or where they came from or why they were given up by the family. read more

I have recently attempted to adopt a cat from this shelter to only find out that the staff is rude and have ZERO respect for those with disabilities. I not only completed there online application that was well over three pages but I also noticed that they are not even looking at these applications. I also tried to set up meetings to be able to see this cat but had previous family emergencies to handle while rescheduling a time. I was then given an email asking if I was even qualified to take care of cats because of how I have had to reschedule and response time to emails this past week. I even explained how on some days my pain is more intensive then other days. I have a long history of experience with not only cats but kittens, dogs, puppies, hamsters,chinchillas etc. My disability does not limit me in how I can take care of a pet otherwise I wouldn't of searched animal rescue centers. I advise those looking into this shelter to look elsewhere, its not helping anyone even the animals. read more

Furry Friends helped me greatly by taking in a stray cat I had rescued from a hoarder house. Furry friends does not "shop" for the cats available for adoption, as seen in a previous 1-star review. There is only so much space available at their rescue house, so while they may not be able to take every cat, they helped me so much by finding my stray kitty a foster and eventually, a forever home. New cats are taken in weekly from surrenders as well as strays. There are cats that come with medical and behavioral issues and no expense is spared to treat them. In addition, there's also a dedicated few volunteers who trap/neuter/return feral cats in Clark county and the Portland area. Furry Friends impressed me so much, I now spend one night a week volunteering! I can say with certainty that the 1-star reviewer had their facts wrong and I wanted to give an accurate review of what this rescue does, having worked with them from both sides. The web site is easy to purrruse. The arrangement of topics is clean and non-cluttered which I appreciate in trying to navigate for information. The senior adoption program is a very clever idea and so appropriate in a human-cat relationship. I would like another topic to be added under the "Furry Friends Cat Shelter & Rescue" - In addition to the cat icons of "volunteer", "Donate", "Adopt", and "Foster", it would be advantageous to list "homeless" which would have instructions for people that have either come across strays or have circumstances in which that need help in placing a cat. I did, however, write an email and was able to explain my situation. Chris was my contact and did a wonderful job in providing me with pertinent information to place my friend's cat. My friend has cancer and is not able to care for the cat; I was acting as middle-woman and courier for the family. Chris was extremely helpful and very responsive to my dilemma - even got approval for the cat to be put on a waiting list. I had things ready to go, but the family decided to hold off. Because of how good I felt in corresponding with Chris, I have donated to the cause; this is one way I can currently make a monetary donation to their good works. Keep of the good work. A few years ago my elderly grandmother wanted to adopt a kitty as she felt her current kitty was a little lonely. Furry Friends helped us find the perfect match. While some rescues made my grandmother a little nervous as they would question her age and make her feel like due to her age that it was not appropriate to add to her one cat family. Furry Friends was very supportive and encouraged senior companionship. They respected our family arrangement and introduced us to an adult DSH who on his first meet-and-greet at our home was so fantastic it was his first day home. I have had 2 cats from Furry Friends over the years, Both were abused cats and difficult to handle. I still have the last one I got from them. Her name when I got her was Olivia, I named her Duchess, because she was in charge of all that goes on in my home. She had been abused to the point she would hiss and growl at everyone, and still does to a point, there are two outlooks on the fact that she had been declawed when I got her, because she will attack peoples legs and try to scratch them it is probably a good thing she came to me that way as I would not have had her declawed if she had not already had it done, and probably had a lot of problems with her scratching people. She and I get along very well but she will hiss and growl at me sometimes if she is not wanting to be pet or held, the one thing I have noticed is she will come and lie down by me when I am talking on the phone. She always comes over and cuddles also while I am on the phone and I can pet her and scratch her and roll her around and play with her and she loves it. When I get off the phone it is all over but the hissing and the growling. I just think that is her way of talking to me and letting me know she is not in the mood to be played with. I think Furry Friends is a great place and they really take care of their cats and it is a plus for our community that we have them. I say Bravo to them and they do a good job!! read more

I called to see about meeting a cat and they never responded to my call. Then about 1.5 weeks later my husband called and once again my they never called back. It seems that they don't want to have their cats adopted by very loving potential families. Not to mention that you never get a live person in the phone. You must leave a message and just hope they call you back. read more

Hi folks..this is Chuck , Hiway and Kahalua's dad. I just want to post what a great group of people Furry Friends has been to me and my cats. I became homeless last April( 2015) and was without resources and 4 cats living in a car. Long Story..not my fault. I called all the " cat rescue organizations, and Jennifer at Furry Friends was the only one to call back. She was able to take two of them, Hi way and Kalaloch( later renamed Kahalua)The had been my best friends for near 10 years, along with the other two..Momma Kitty and Q.T..I had to put those two up for adoption at SW Washington Humane Society..a decision that near killed me... Fortunately, Q.T was adopted soon and I got Momma Kitty back. She stayed with me in the car through out the whole Year of homelessness. Furry Friends took absolute best care of my two boys. I knew the possibility of them getting adopted was good..and I was at peace about that, but I held on to hope that I might be able to get one or both of them back when life took an upward swing. They were loved and cared for by all the Furry Friend volunteers and although the adjustment was severe for both of them( they never had known any one else but me) They became well known at the halfway house for their personality and charm..neither of which they got from me.LOL Through out the year, I was able to come see them, usually on Wednesday nights, and just get my fix of cat-love..just to see them and love on them, which the staff allowed me to do without restriction. Thanks Tanya, and Jamie, and all the other crew for all the love you gave them. And by letting me see them, my spirits were lifted just to make it through another tough day in the journey from homelessness to hopefulness. Circumstances eventually turned around, and I got some housing last month. I know Kahalua has been adopted, and if the owner is reading this..know he is a blessed cat in your home, and that you love him as much as I did. I requested to re- adopt Hiway back and Jennifer was glad to help re-unite the two of us( and Hiway to Momma Kitty)to return our Cat-a clysmic family back to a sense of norm. Hiway is happy, I am Happy..and Momma Kitty ..well.. she is getting happier( she got all my attention in the car for year....spoiled...) Thank you Furry Friends.for helping homeless cats, and homeless people make it through this tough journey called life.
