It started when I picked up some of their prints: Godfather Part II (by David Boogert), The Royal Tenenbaums (by Emilee Dziuk), Pulp Fiction (Clyde H. Ashby), all purchased at the Broadway Theatre as part of the SLFS' summer movie series'. Then, I was seeing them at festivals. It was quite awhile before I realized they set up shop downtown (200 S). Just look for the cool wall graffiti. Actually, that isn't specific enough for that area! A purple lady on a seafoam green background. Back to the important stuff: The Posters. If you're a movie buff ANYWHERE, you'll love the unique cinematic interpretations by the of the 12 CPP crew. Because of their work with the Salt Lake Film Society, a majority of their movie posters are from more independent films. But in there you'll find Jaws, Alien, This is Spinal Tap, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and yes, even Spice World. If you aren't in the area, you can still check out their stuff and order online. They aren't just movie poster creations, but I'll let you peruse their shop to find out more! Every year when the SLFS hosts a film series -- "Late Summer Nights", "Summer of 35 MM", etc., I'm excited for the films, but even more by the possibility of more Copper Palette Press creations!

I had 2 months to get my product completed, and they failed to deliver. First, he was unresponsive…read morethrough email and it took weeks upon weeks to get a design finalized. Next, I brought my product in to get printed on and they spelled things wrong, ruining my product. They had a screenshot of my design but somehow still messed it up. After me pointing out the mistakes, he said they would order the product and reprint them. I had 2 and a half weeks to get this done, and it did not happen. He "did not know why the product never showed up." Not to mention, he said on multiple occasions that I would receive a phone call if there were any issues. Never received a single call. I don't know how this business is still functioning, horribly run.

My wonderful collector Lisa from the Philadelphia area commissioned me to paint this huge piece…read more(40x40") depicting the place her family stayed in Paris. So many beautiful memories for their family happened right here. I enjoyed painting it so much! I finished the first painting in January 2023. I took it to Artistic Wholesale. I'd been bringing my business to them for about two years. When I expressed concern about mailing such a large piece and when I asked if they could crate it, the sales associate pointed out that the guy who did the packaging had just walked in and I could ask him. I don't recall his name. He told me something to the effect of: "we do this all the time! It will be fine." Options of archival glass, museum glass, and plexiglass were presented to me. When plexiglass was suggested, I asked how it would look, and was told that glass would look the best. This painting was created to hang above a fireplace in the collector's home. I told them where the painting would hang and asked how plexiglass would look. I was told it wouldn't look as good as glass. No one mentioned anything about risk. So, I chose glass. I again asked: will this painting be ok being shipped with the way you package it? Again I was told, "no problem! We do this all the time." Once the painting was framed, which looked fantastic, Artistic Wholesale packaged it up to what they said was "UPS standards" and shipped it out. On February 14, 2023 I received texts, videos, and photos from my collector telling me that the package was completely intact, but that the glass was shattered, the painting was cut up beyond repair, and the frame had little nicks and cuts in it rendering it unusable. I was shocked and devastated, as was my collector. She told me that the only thing protecting the painting was a layer of foam core in front and behind the painting all wrapped in plastic sheeting material with a thin layer of bubble wrap. There was NO styrofoam, packing peanuts filling the box to cushion it, or corner pieces protecting the painting. Over the last months I've tried to get Artistic Wholesale to help make this right. I wish I could get UPS to reimburse my losses, but they have told me I can't get any sort of reimbursement, because it's now past 60 days. The UPS website indicates that only the shipper (which was Artistic Wholesale) can file a claim and, to my knowledge, they never did. The first painting took me 40 hours to finish and the second one took 26 hours ....not counting all hours of communication with my collector to assure them I'll completely take care of them; buying new supplies; attempting to get the frame company to cover some of the costs for this loss, my time lost in getting more commissions (I haven't been able to take any more new commission paintings while working on this), more materials, and new shipping costs; I've also worked for hours with a lawyer to try to get the owner of Artistic Wholesale to help out. The owner responded taking zero responsibility for what happened. Here's how I'm handling this situation for my customer: I've repainted the piece and am getting ready to ship the painting to a new framer near the home of my collector. I was fortunate to find a Fort Knox-type-impenetrable tube (from the kind people at Sugar House Awning) in which to ship the new painting. I'll roll up the painting, cover it in bubble wrap, and seal it inside this tube, then ship it off with the maximum insurance. This situation makes me sad, frustrated, and very upset that after YEARS of having a great relationship with Artistic Wholesale that the owner doesn't seem to care. However, it demonstrates to me, as a small business owner and consumer, the paramount importance of excellent customer service and taking responsibility for damages and unhappy clients. I'd recommend using another framer for your framing needs. I cannot in good conscience recommend coming to Artistic Wholesale because they don't own up to their mistakes nor do they take care of their customers when mistakes are made.

But the bigness of the company almost works against them. One of the reasons I often choose local companies is because of the kind of service and attention I get. When you order with them, there's a real push to do it online. That's great if you know what you need and what you're doing, but for someone who doesn't have this stuff made every couple of months it could be difficult and you may find the service at a smaller shop to be more up your alley. In a world where online printing companies are now super, super, UBER cheap it's often going to be more affordable to just send it off to Texas or California, even with shipping. I mean, if I'm submitting it all online anyway it becomes a pure price game. The good news is that they are local and real people do work there, so you can work a little closer with them if you need to. They've been around a long time and can handle just about any size project. And it's not just banners--they do tablecloths, car wraps, stand up banners, window banners (decals? wraps?) and a whole host of other promotional or products. Give the website a whirl if you're curious, but realize that if you're going to get a banner or project done just online, you can do a little research and save some money. Hopefully they'll be willing to walk you through it if you go in or pick up the phone.

After manning a table at a couple of events I was hooked and sought to improve the professionalism of our presence. The first thing I needed was signage with a stand. A Google search led me to Sugar House which had the largest selection of banner fabrics and stands, I designed what at that time was an awesome piece, they did a beautiful job of printing it, it arrived in plenty of time for my next event, and the durable banner and stand continue to serve me well. Their after-sale service was incredible - I received several emails asking if everything was to my satisfaction and requesting a photo of my banner in action. This photo is still on their website! They're not the cheapest, but you can't beat their quality, selection and service. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them for full-service banner work.
