As a recovering suburbanite, I was skeptical of Fusek's when I moved downtown. How could this tiny, old-timey hardware store POSSIBLY have everything I need? Don't I need the miles of aisles of a big box store to contain all the products I might want to purchase? Well, it turns out that when you're living in a 700 square foot one bedroom with your cat, Fusek's does just fine. MORE than fine, actually, because the people there are super friendly and helpful, and the store is neat and well-stocked with the necessities and a rotating list of interesting goodies (why yes, I DO need a set of decorative string lights and a can of dill pickle flavored peanuts. Thank you, Fusek's!). I visit this place so often that it's basically my "Cheers" now, which is great because they have my favorite happy hour in town: 10% off between 4-6pm every weekday. I moved to downtown Indy a little over five years ago and in my time here, Fusek's has saved me many times. Just like last week, I realized I had lost the U-lock to my bike, called them up and they had them! Definitely saved me a trip to the burbs! Not only do they carry a ton of the things you may need from a hardware store (and more), they are super friendly and helpful and the prices aren't crazy expensive like you would expect them to be. This is my first ever Yelp review. I felt compelled to leave one for this awesome store. I've been there a bunch of times for various projects and they seem to always have what I'm looking for, including random wallpapering tools. Recently, my car's battery died while it sat in my garage overnight. I had to take an Uber to the store to pick up a battery charger. I found one, took it to the register, then realized I left my wallet at home (I have a new baby at home, and am sleep deprived). The manager at the register insisted one of his fellow employees use the company truck to take me home to get my wallet. Off we went. We returned to the store, I payed for the charger, then they gave me ANOTHER ride home. That made my week! read more

As pretty much the only hardware store downtown Indy, I figured that this place had to be very pricey and carry a very limited selection. Wrong. Everything I've needed for my little place I've been able to purchase here. And that customer service - wow! My dad and I were trying to troubleshoot how to move a stuck washer / dryer and the manager of the store jumped in with a very helpful suggestion (that didn't even involve purchasing anything from his store!). Great little joint downtown that reminds you of a small town hardware store. The staff is super friendly and they have a lot to offer. When I came in here for a quick run to pick up paint supplies, they directed me immediately, asked if I had any questions, and were very helpful. It seems redundant, but this place is exceptional. Especially given the distance from downtown to a big box place, Fusek's is a place I don't know what I'd do without. Their customer service is great and people are willing to go above and beyond to help you find what you need. I recently rented a carpet cleaning machine (heavy-duty), which they gave great instructions on but did not work when we brought it home. After trying to trouble shoot over the phone unsuccessfully, I brought back the machine and they made sure to test the one one before sending me off again. This meant putting a puddle on the floor I'm sure they had to clean up later, but they wanted to ensure I didn't have the same problem again. read more

Fusek's has done a good job of positioning itself as the hardware store of choice for the recent influx of downtown, near northside, and near east side dwellers. The service and shopping experience are great if you need simple building supplies, tools, paint, and random household goods. But if you need materials for more involved / heavy duty projects you'll need to go to the big box hardware stores that ring I-465. That's not an indictment of Fusek's, just a reality of limited urban retail space. read more

My husband needed to find a new screw or bolt for a helmet he uses in his hurling league. Neither of us had any idea what he needed, so we took the helmet into the hardware store with us. Much to my surprise, two employees searched through all of the bolts, trying to find something that would work. The staff are always friendly and greet you when you come in the door. On more than one occasion I have given a brief description of what I am looking for and they can take me directly to what I need. Prices are similar to the big box stores although they don't carry as many options. No matter what I have never left without finding what I came through the door to find. UPS here is great! The True Value staff here is not so great. The manager (I'm assuming) and cashier were rude to me and to other customers, to say the least. I made eye contact with the cashier, she just stared. I had to ask, "Are you ready?" And she replied, "We're just waiting on you all." I always try to buy from local businesses when I can BUT everytime I come to Fusek's I encounter employees that are both rude and/or unknowledgeable. The first time I went there I wanted to get a screen repaired and the guy was very rude and essentially told me to go somewhere else. The second time I went in asking for Kilz to remove graffiti off my garage and they said "No use paint remover." I said "won't it remove the paint off my garage?" They said "no since it's a factory job it won't come off." Guess what it totally stripped every layer of paint off and I had to re-paint the whole door. The third time I bought $1500 worth of custom blinds. They came to my house, measured, the blinds come in then DID NOT fit in the part of the window I wanted it. SO I have $1500 wonky blinds. They have this rewards program so I was sent $50 in gift certificates. I go in there to use them pick up $50 worth of stuff then they say we can only use 1 $10 certificate per transaction (by the way the certificates expire mid-July). Then treated me like I was trying to steal from them or something when I asked why they couldn't be used together. So maybe I was stupid for continuing to go in there. I recommend no one else repeat my idiocy trying to buy local. Just go to Lowes or Home Depot. read more
