Family owned and operated since 1954, Sulivan Hardware has grown over the past 70 years into one of the largest home and garden retailers in the state as a member of the Do it Best hardware stores. They have everything for every season whether it's flowers, plants, trees & shrubs to outdoor furniture, Christmas trees during the season accessories and a huge array of grills for those grill master enthusiasts. Wow! We came for the Sullivan Express Train, but we will return to explore this shop! Beautifully decorated for Christmas! So many different areas to explore! The store is divided off into different 'rooms' with different types of decor, tools and Christmas trees! Several areas were great photo props for the grandkids! You may be thinking, "I don't want to eat while people are shopping for whatever hardware they need!" Sullivan's had a night in the garden. You bought tickets before hand and several restaurants were present. Drinks not included. It was hot as heck but the sweat only slightly slowed the evening. The garden was back behind the nursery and was beautiful. Tables were set up and umbrellas were present There was a great band that played easy rock. A little on the loud side but definitely good. Just as a thought , you could have a wedding in this facility it is that nice Food was all you could eat and there was plenty. Dirty dishes and trash were cleared as soon as you were done. Rain came for a while. They brought out more umbrellas but not necessary as everyone was enjoying themselves We ate plenty and enjoyed wine or margarita smoothies. They don't have a huge lumber selection and "house building" materials like the big box stores, but they have pretty much everything you will need for small to medium projects. - much higher end products than the other stores. Like green egg grills and Stihl products to name just a few. - awesome events for grilling, gardening and more - this store has a gigantic gardening section that is 10x better than the big box stores. I've been meaning to stop by Sullivan Hardware & Garden during the holidays for years. This year, I made a bucket list of holiday activities to do with our 15 mo. old kiddo and Sullivan was on the list. I had heard about the ever-so-popular train ride and tree installations. We wanted to beat the train rush and just see all of the holiday trees this round. We were amazed by the variety of items this store sells. It's a great spot for holiday gift shopping (in addition to all of the decor and Christmas trees). It was fun to see our son take in all of the sights and sounds. We ended up leaving with some holiday gifts. You can find everything from bird seed and recipe books to ornaments and tropical plants. It's quite the variety. Not to mention that they have a restaurant and bar on site to round out the experience. Can't wait to visit next year and try out the train ride. read more

I recently attended the Ladies Night Out event as well as Slawfest event. Both were well organized and had great food due to Sully's Grill located inside the hardware store. Slawfest had other vendors passing out food Brics, Half-liter, and 317 BBQ to name a few. The outdoor area if perfect to hold events. Sullivan's is a massive building and outdoor area that looks like it takes up an entire block. They're adding on more parking spaces 60+! That is great! I'm sure if you need anything for your outdoor yard or deck or anything interior you will be sure to find it at Sullivan's. It would take awhile to see all they have. If you're looking to buy a Big Green Egg they have a ton and so many sizes! Check out the Yellow House located in you guessed it a beautiful yellow house! Great experience today with lady at the paint counter helping us with discussion on paint remover and our cabinet doors. In the summer their plant selection beats all the big box places. After some consideration, I've decided to drop the rating for Sullivan from a 5-star experience to a 4-star experience. As I noted in my earlier review, I've lived on the Northeast side of Indy for around 12 years. For some reason, I'd never made it to Sullivan despite hearing mostly good things about it. However, this past holiday season I received a call from Anthony, a Sullivan employee, informing me that anonymous donors had donated a Christmas tree and stand, along with delivery and pick-up, and all I needed to do was come in and pick out the tree and stand. As someone who always struggles through the season, this was a remarkably thoughtful gift. As someone with a disability, the idea of delivery and pick-up is an extra gift. I received the call too late to call Anthony back, but went in the next morning to pick out a tree. Unfortunately, Anthony wasn't working and no one else seemed to know about the arrangement - I'd saved the voice mail, but they felt better waiting until Anthony's return the following day. I was unable to go in the following day, but made arrangements for the day after that. So, I returned to pick out the tree. Anthony wasn't there - However, Kary was present and super helpful with a "can do" attitude. Drew also helped. I picked out a tree and thought it was fun they had names for their trees. The one I picked was Cathy! I gave my delivery information and was informed they could deliver it on Monday (this was Friday). I didn't get a specific time, but I did get a call Monday and was informed I was next on the schedule. They arrived and set up the tree. Both employees wore masks and were respectful of distance. The tree had been cut and they gave me quick instructions on maintaining it for the season. They didn't mention when they would return to take it down. One other time, I'd had delivery of a tree and they'd called the week after the holiday. So, I figured that would likely be the case. Both times that I visited Sullivan, I was pretty amazed. I knew it was a large place, but I was in awe of the Christmas selection. They also have plants, hardware, a little Christmas Express they were using for train rides, and a small restaurant inside called Sully's Grill. Helpful employees are throughout. They seemed well staffed and certainly had a steady flow of customers. They were enforcing mask guidelines and encouraging social distancing. That said, the atmosphere was still relaxed. They also have artificial trees, gardening equipment, grills, items for birds, and their Yellow House that offers a variety of interior decorations. In terms of accessibility - they offer accessible parking, automatic doors (including to each section), and have nicely spaced aisles. There are a couple areas that involve steps - I could likely wheel up to the Yellow House, but it has an upstairs area I could likely not get to. I was just really super impressed with the options, the atmosphere, and the overall customer service. They have pretty formal processes, but they're casual about them and it comes off quite relaxed. I also like that you can get customer service but you can also get space to shop. As the Christmas season ended, I was surprised to never hear from Sullivan regarding removal of the tree. They'd clearly indicated this was part of the service offered - and I'm assuming it's part of what my donor paid for. So, I'm disappointed with the lack of follow-through by Sullivan at an agreed upon service. As a person with a disability, this means I've had to make arrangements on my own to have someone come over and dispose of the tree. Considering I also had to take two trips to pick the tree, no small challenge in a wheelchair, this leads me to drop their rating from 5 to 4 with a recommendation that they work on team communication (so that if a special arrangement is made other team members know about it) and make their processes a little more efficient. Overall, I still give them a thumbs up but there's definitely room to improve. read more

Had the absolute best experience at Sullivans this past weekend! My husband and I stopped in just to window shop as we were looking to replace our Adirondack chairs with an all-weather alternative. We ended up working with Annie who showed us all of the available options and explained the product. She was super helpful and a joy to work with. Needless to say, we bought 3 new beautiful Adirondack chairs that were delivered within 5 days (exactly on the date promised) , the delivery crew was there 15 minutes after our delivery window started AND they hauled away our old chairs. The transaction was flawless and we are thrilled with our new chairs. This is not our first experience with Sullivans - we've bought patio furniture, a grill, plants and custom seasonal porch pots and can say our experience is always top notch! They are exceptional and we love supporting a local family owned business! read more

Sullivan's Hardware Big Egg Fest is a foodie's paradise. 30 plus booths with at least 2 items to taste. I assisted my friend with her goal of purchasing her dream Big Green Egg as a discount. Our bottom served skirt steak with wine sauce and grilled watermelon and grilled pineapple. Along with the food there was entertainment and a beverage garden. There were amazing dishes competing for large prizes along with receiving a discount on a grilled used for cooking that day. The competition and the comradary was serious and fun! I stopped in to Sullivans on a whim because I've always been curious about it when I passed by and I needed some basil plants. It honestly was so cool! This place is deceptively massive. I am so excited to come back when I have more time to take everything in and explore. A couple of notes: 1. Try to come during less high traffic times so you can take it slow and enjoy looking at all the cool stuff they have. I went when it was busy and felt a little rushed because of all the people that were also on a mission. 2. It's more than a hardware and garden store, they've got an immense selection of plants of all types, patio furniture, etc. but the indoor selection has all sorts of random things that are fun. read more

I paid over $400 for a plant that they got from hoosier boy for under $150 but that's not the problem. Every single plant in that pot. Of a huge floor plant a Epipremnum Pinnatum Albo had a mesh fabric around the roots not allowing it to grown ultimately killing my plant. Stay away from Allisonville and Sullivan's if your wanting nice house plants. When someone buys a over 4ft tall houseplant no one is expecting to have the roots being choked from an additional pot inside the pot it came in. read more

This is a review of the Santa Train experience exclusively: I'm so glad this fun little adventure exists right here in Indy! For $50 you and your family can all visit Santa! Registration opens after Thanksgiving and fills up FAST. You reserve a specific timeframe on a date of your choosing. You can also ride the train when Santa's not there at a reduced rate. The $50 covers your ride as a group in a train car through the grounds to the North Pole to Santa's workshop where there are LEGO tables,restrooms and the most beautiful photo ops and one on one time with Santa! Santa was so chill, patient and attentive with my little guys. Because only one train 4 families max) pulls up at a time there's no line or chaos while waiting. It's a parents dream. Santa gives the kiddos a candy cane. Nd when the train goes through the candy cane factory part of the ride they get another. The elves (local H.S. Students) were friendly and kept the whole process running on time. It's a great value, especially if you have multiple kiddos! Bonus: -Grab some complimentary popcorn from the Sullivans popcorn machine while you wait! -There's an elaborate model train set up for the kiddos (of all ages!) near the Sa ta Train Check I'm to keep kiddos happy! -Sullys Grill serves drinks (for all ages!!) and food. On a recent visit to my folks, they said they wanted to take me to a hardware store in Indianapolis. For lunch. I kinda laughed and went along with their plan. And wow... am I glad I did! The front of the store had basic hardware store type things, but everything changed a few aisles later. The large store was full of carefully curated and themed shopping displays - from trees and ornaments to food and housewares to candles, body care and hostess gifts. (Pet-themed, birds, outdoorsy camping, candy cane, toys, food themed, etc.) There was a large section of unique toys and gifts and another of food (not chain store stuff), and I was pleasantly surprised to get some Christmas shopping done. The Sullivan Hardware and Garden buyer and their retail display creator deserve a raise! There was a huge section of Yeti products and the grilling/smoker section had everything you could imagine. The store felt like it kept going on, and in the very back was a big outdoor section for seasonal plants that was mostly empty due to the change of season. (I can only imagine how wonderful it would be in spring and summer!) The greenhouse section was full of very healthy looking and well-maintained house plants. There was even a house - an actual house, complete with a porch - that was one of the best boutique stores I've shopped in recently. The house, the store, the greenhouse - it's all one store! The most surprising part for me was the café that served actual homemade food, without a reheated chicken finger in sight! The menu selection was not huge, but the food quality was undeniable, the taste was delicious, and presentation spot on. Did I spend a couple hours in a hardware store? Yes, I did. Would I go back? From the second I walked into Sullivan the other day, I could not stop smiling! There's something about a hardware and garden store at the beginning of summer that really verifies the changing of the seasons. This place is a never ending greenhouse of horticulture heaven. I perused the outdoor aisles for quite awhile and while driving away, realized I didn't even make it close to the end! It's definitely family friendly, with a complimentary popcorn station. There's also "The Yellow House," a gifts, garden, and home accent little trinket shop positioned in the outdoor section among all the flats. For succulent fans, they have a huge variety of cacti products, including pre-potted assortments and air plants. The gorgeous hanging baskets were absolutely mesmerizing, as were all of the flowers. There are tons of vegetable and - my favorite - herb options as well. I love making a little cutting garden in the summer, so I picked up some dill, cilantro, and mint. I also grabbed a little citronella candle in order to motivate more evenings spent on the porch. For those with race day pride, they have buckets of checkered flags to help your lawn celebrate May in Indy - so fun! I honestly can't imagine Sullivan not having exactly what you're looking for to improve your outdoor space. I noticed a lot of younger employees and was a little jealous at what a fun summer job that must be. They were also super helpful, able to answer my questions and direct me to exactly what I was looking for. I can't wait to return. read more

If you are strictly looking for hardware, I will say that there are numerous big box stores that have more items. But if you are looking for a place to get Christmas items (trees, lights, outdoor items, and ornaments), then this beats them all! After pulling into their parking lot along Keystone, I entered the north side of the building and made my way passed the checkout line (you wait your turn in one line and go to the next available counter when it opens.) Most of the hardware, along with some snack items, are towards the check out counter. But as you work your way back through the multiple display rooms, you see more and more Christmas items and displays (at least during my visit.) There were lots of trees at the back of the first main area. Once I passed through the doors, I found a miniature train display for kids to watch, Sully's Grill for grabbing a snack, and more Christmas stuff along with some outdoor barbecue equipment (Big Green Egg is really popular here.) Beyond that room, there is more stuff for garden, though it was not stocked during December. (You also enter the Yellow House for home decor items via the garden area.) Unfortunately I cannot recommend Sullivan Hardware. My fiance and I purchased a Weber grill recently, and discovered it already has a leak in the gas connection not more than a couple of weeks after receiving it. When we purchased the grill we were told to go through Sullivan's for any future service needs which was a big selling point for us. We called today about the issue and were told to go directly through Weber, and that any service from Sullivan would incur a charge. We had priced out the same grill at other stores (Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.) and Sullivan's had the highest price. We thought we were paying more for service should we need it, but unfortunately that's not the case. Please advise your sales staff not to make false promises. read more

Chalk this up as another must-do during the Christmas season. I've been hearing about the Sullivan Santa Express train ever since our first Christmas in Indiana about 2 years ago. People with young children love it because it's fun, you get to ride a train, you get to play with toys while you wait for your turn on the train, and best of all: You get to meet Santa in a low-key, intimate setting (and by intimate, I mean that there's maybe a handful of other kids there. You don't have to wait a long time, in a long line, to see Santa. He's there and focused on you and your small group who came in on the train). It's perfect. Then Santa gives you a candy cane and sends you off on your way. Be sure to bring a camera or your phone to capture a picture! The train ride is pretty awesome and takes you on a mini tour through all kinds of Christmas settings. You get to see reindeer working out, grumpy elves making gifts, and you even get to ride through a carwash-esque light show that surrounds you with thousands of lights. It took about 20 minutes to go through the whole thing, and your whole family gets their own train car for $35 per family. Sullivan's Hardware is a pretty neat place to visit during Christmas anyway, because they have so much going on: lots of decorated Christmas trees, lights, Christmas decorations, free popcorn. But add this to the mix, and it makes for a wonderful Christmas night out for the whole family. read more

The employees in the nursery are knowledgeable and helpful. They said they are always looking to keep the most popular plants of the moment in their shop. I'm hoping to come back very soon to pick up a wishlist plant they said they should have soon. This weekend I bought two plants and plant pots there! A pilea plant and a pickle plant succulent.
