This is the kind of old-school neighborhood place I have been needing in my life! I'm the daughter…read moreof a do-it-yourselfer so naturally that spirit lives on in me. My family loves out of state so though they can provide guidance I'm always stumped as to where to go for certain items. Now I have found it and better yet they give great advice! My war with squirrels brought me here. I needed chicken wire to deter those pests from eating my freshly planted tulips bulbs. I called and they had 3 varieties to choose from. When I showed up, it felt like I was stepping back in time and I loved every moment. I was greeting and given guidance to what I needed. The gentleman even considered price when making a suggestion to me. Not trying to up sell or give me more than what I needed to get the job done! I'm hoping today's war against the squirrels efforts did the trick but if they didn't, I know where I can go to get some new supplies!

I think Fusek's True Value is the only other hardware store in the downtown area, so for those who reside near here (especially those who own homes with lawns downtown), there is now another option. It is located across the parking lot from the new Bodhi Cocktail Bar & Thai Bistro in the site formerly home to Indy Reads (which moved to Fountain Square.) Before you read any further, know that because I don't live downtown, I didn't engage in any transactions while here, so I hope others will soon add more detailed shopping information than I can. The shop is especially prepared for home owners in the area. Lots of items for outdoor work as well a the standard aisles of small items do it yourselfers need and can't find elsewhere. Note that when we visited, a "house" dog was lounging near the counter. So, I would advise not bringing your pets with you to shop since I don't know how they might interact. The dog did not move during our entire visit. Seemed well mannered. One of the benefits of shopping here is that they are open 24 hours a day. My wife asked and yes, they do get shoppers throughout the night! I am glad I'm too old for those all night projects now, but realize that when you get started on something, you sometimes just want to get it done and having a place to get the supplies you need is a huge benefit! The one negative that keeps this from an even higher rating is that the parking is very limited and if you wanted to bring a big truck for hauling larger or multiple purchases, you may have some difficulty in the small parking/loading area compared to most hardware stores I have frequented. But, the store did have a lot of needs covered. I think they are supposed to be a paint supply specialty shop as well. But I didn't realize that until I got home and read some info on their website. If you are downtown for some excellent food, stop by and check Trust out. It might save you a trip to one of those big box stores later. Review #3905

We purchased several vegetables, like kale, cabbage, Brussel, sprouts, and more. We also purchased some soil and a few other household items we were running low on. Our experience was great from start to finish, and I was very impressed with their selection of gardening vegetables. There were multiple varieties of greens, a dozen plus a Herbs, and pretty much everything you could need to start an expansive vegetable garden. Looking forward to future visits at this neighborhood, hardware store.

Today, the store looks like it has for the last 50 years. Vintage signs still hang out front of the store, always advertising something interesting. Inside, I found the store packed, with shelves filled up to the ceiling. The store is a bit disorganized and cluttered, but they seem to have everything a do-it-yourselfer might need. Prices are reasonable. The clerk asked us if we needed help and later talked a bit about the store's history. Old photos hang on the wall with Victorian photos of the original Hedlunds. We bought chainsaw oil. We've got to trim some trees. Parking is easy and close to the building. Exiting north requires patience as there is a lot of traffic.

Then they sold me a fingered oven glove which was just what I needed for my small hand. I have literally been looking for months for this thing. So then I asked them if they also had cotton candy and a pony and that's when I finally struck out. A real true-blue old hardware place like I like them. It's basically the Tardis inside. I mostly go to the Fishers store now. I find the staff to be friendly and helpful and there's comraderie among them. I appreciate the family-owned Wisconsin/Northwoods culture and look forward to the weekly ads. I have never had any issues with missing rebates or returns. The website is excellent, it even tells you what aisle and shelf to find an item on. Menards makes shopping fun.

Taking the spot vacated by CVS and expanding beyond it, it seemed an unusual move considering the relative proximity of Sullivan's, Lowe's, and Hedlund's all over near 62nd and Keystone. That said, the neighborhoods are entirely different and this neighborhood really hasn't had anything resembling a hardware store. There was a place open for a bit near 75th and Binford, however, this neighborhood has really sort of struggled to attract new businesses. Other than a Big Lots across the street and the always popular Taylor's Bakery, this corner has been a bit run down and neglected for as long as I've lived in the area. Recently, this particular corner is showing signs of life with both strip centers being renovated and now the arrival of Ace Hardware. Great Lakes Ace is a Michigan-based company with 62 locations. The location has been cleaned up mightily and the accessibility definitely improved with a better ramp and automatic doors. The store itself is surprisingly accessible for a hardware store (a weakness of Sullivan's). Ace prides itself on offering expert advice on a variety of home repair and maintenance projects with convenient shopping to get in and out quickly and national buying power for access to name brands. Ace specializes in paint, lawn and garden, home décor and hardware. They offer weekly specials and they do participate in the Ace Rewards program. This location also offers Ace Handyman Services. They come to the home and offer 1,162 handyman services and services are backed by a one-year guarantee. You can schedule online and they call back to confirm appointments. It looks like they typically schedule in 1/2 day or full-day options. The craftsmen are actual Ace employees - not contractors. The Ace that I found was well staffed and super friendly and helpful. I was basically "just looking" at this visit, however, I felt free to do so without a lot of pressure. Some of the key services at this location: Propane Refill/Exchange Blades/Knives/Scissors/Saws Sharpening Screen Repair Hunting/Fishing Licenses Auto Key Programming and Cutting Glass Repair and Cutting Assembly and more. This location carries hand and power tools, paint, sundries, clothing, plumbing, hardware, outdoor, cleaning supplies, electrical, lawn and garden, and housewares. Brands they carry include Traeger, Weber, STIHL, Scotts, Toro, Benjamin Moore, YETI, Magnolia Home Paint, Craftsman, Dewalt, and a few others. I suppose 5-star might be a little generous for a hardware store, however, I really liked the improved atmosphere of this store from the dingy, worn out feeling in the old CVS. This location is clean, well organized, surprisingly affordable, and has employees who were friendly and helpful. Plus, accessibility is improved quite a bit from the old tenant. Welcome to the neighborhood, Ace! I look forward to returning again in the near future.

He stayed there helping us try and find the items and answered all of our questions. When we left two more associates were at the front and said goodbye.
