I haven't been to an FYE in a long time so I was excited to find one at Fox Valley Mall. I ended up buying a "tasting adventure" snack box for the country of Korea. While the product is cool and the store was well organized, I did have one problem. The employee asked for my email then without asking simply stated "I'm signing you up for our VIP, it's a $10 value and free for the first month. It'll save you some money on this purchase". I then asked if it automatically renewed and he said yes! I had to stop him because I always forget to do that and I honestly didn't even know how. I asked if he could walk me through how to stop the automatic renewal and he said he didn't know how to so I told him that I don't want to be signed up. If I hadn't spoken up it would have completely screwed me over. So please be careful of the thoughtless employees who don't ask and just tell you. I am not the only person they've done this to, there are other reviews stating the same. Still a fun store, but they couldn't find an item that was supposed to be in stock, and the clerk basically talked me out of ordering the item through them because their system just got back up after Covid and they can't guarantee that it will arrive...? "But we'll give you your money back!" Uh, too iffy for me. They do have all the action figures, K-pop, otaku/anime, vinyl records and '80s-90s nostalgia one could want crammed into this shop on the food court level. read more

Deciding to finally, after my almost $100 in disputes to get my money back, making a review about this SHITTY place. They signed me up for this membership after I told them not to, that I BARELY go to this store since I live about half an hour to an hour away. They insisted it was free but never told me it was an automatic renewal. Many calls to the MANAGER who insisted that I didn't have an activated account, even though the charges were still coming through, and a shitty customer service with a lady you couldn't understand because of a thick accent telling me she refused to cancel me, I'm beyond PISSED at this place. I am never returning and I will in fact let those who want to shop here, that it's nothing but an overpriced scam of a shop. I hope your business fails with the scams that you give. I should honestly demand a refund for the whole basically YEAR that you've scammed me for. read more

FYEs are hard to come by nowadays. They're one of my favorite stores to find at most malls just simply because they sell alot of things I like. Anyway I needs new headphones which were on sale. I got distracted looking at their other merchandise. This place is a "nerds" paradise. Prices here are competitive. What I don't like is the dingy lighting in the store. It gets great traffic though none the less. A few of the staff members are kind of more less friendly than some. It's a place I'd definitely come back too. read more

Good selection of movies but their entire business is a scam. never and I mean NEVER give them your name or email or phone number or sign up for their shitty backstage pass membership. They didn't even tell me I would get charged and low and behold my bank told me I was getting charged not only for a membership but also some magazines that nobody in their right mind would want let alone read. I tried calling to cancel my membership and they tried to convince me not to because of store credit. It was a complete pain in the ass to cancel. This store scams their customers! I went there to buy some candy and when I tried to check out the cashier asked for my phone number and name. I didn't think this was weird at the time because many stores asked me the same thing to get money off my purchase. After this the cashier asked me to pick three FREE magazines that will be mailed to my house. I asked her if they were really free or if I'd be charged later and she said they were completely free and I would not be charged AT ALL! A couple weeks later a get a notification from my bank saying that my account is overdrawn and come to find out they charged me MULTIPLE TIMES! I will no longer be supporting this SCAM! This is a review of only the VINYL LP selections at this store... Growing up in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I learned to roll my eyes and not want to shop at places like Sam Goody or Musicland. The places always seemed lame to me, in the way that Jack Black's character in High Fidelity makes clear in that movie, when mocking the father who wanted to buy his daughter Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You." I would much rather have shopped at Tower or Rose than those places, and then, Virgin, once Rose closed. Of course, the days where that would have been the case have now long passed, and, although Sam Goody and Musicland have now also passed on--Fye has taken over that market, and they now function as our modern day Musicland/Sam Goody. In today's world, I still roll my eyes when I come here, but the fact is, Fye has become a "necessary evil" for record buyers today in many of Chicago's suburban areas, as it's either the case that you aren't being served by anyone else, or even if you are, can you really pass up one more place willing to offer you new vinyl in an actual brick and mortar store? This is the perspective I bring to shopping here, and you can call me a "sell out" for discussing Fye as a place for *music buyers* in Capital Letters in that Jack Black way to shop at, but I do stand by this perspective. See my other 50+ reviews of music sellers throughout Chicagoland--I make the stand I do on strong ground as a MUSIC BUYER... The pros to Fye are that, depending on which store you go to, the selection of new LPs can actually be pretty decent. There does seem to be variation by location, even though it's a chain though. For instance, the Bloomingdale one I would say has a decent selection of new stuff, but it is no where near as extensive as here at the Fox Valley Mall location, which is surprisingly good for a chain store. The cons to Fye are the prices and the fact that it's a chain store. The prices tend to be higher on new LPs than places like Reckless or Dusty Groove, and they are also higher than buying new LPs online at Amazon. In addition, since its a chain store, there are limits to what they are willing to carry in stock, even at locations where the selection is better. Thus, well-selling classic rock and pop are well stocked, but more esoteric fare (say, new LPs by Brian Eno) will not be found. Given the convergence of pros and cons, I give Fye a 3. If you live in a "record store desert" in the suburbs, and you don't want to just rely on Amazon, Ebay, or Discogs for LP buying, you might want to consider coming to a Fye for your vinyl, if one is close enough by. You may find yourself surprised at just what they can have in the store in stock... read more

Since 0 stars are not an option, I had to give 1 star. I was in the Orland Mall FYE to return a sweatshirt a friend bought for me to give my son. (I paid the friend the cost of the sweatshirt). When I saw the sweatshirt, although cute it wasn't worth $50.00 it was cheaply made. When I returned the sweatshirt I had the receipt, I was asked "store credit or back on the card used, she said it would go back on my friends card" . I said " back on the card, I am friends with her so that would work". In the mean time she hands me store credit card, I told her that I wanted it back on the card used. I was told it was too late and it was a miscommunication. We went back and forth multiple times, I asked her to reverse the transaction and she couldn't. I asked to talk to someone else, she was the Manager so there was no one else to talk to, and this transaction could not be fixed. This was not my error it was employee error, that she did not take responsibility for. Worst customer service I have ever experienced and now I'm stuck with a $54.00 store credit to a store I don't want to support. This place is fun. I love all the nostalgia and cool items they have. Not just for movies and music. I had so much fun looking around here a while. I'm past due for another visit. This is one of the best spots in the mall. Hopefully Fye is always here to stay! Lots of places like this have went out of business a while ago and it's sad. read more

A great place to find movies or tv shows or just about anything entertainment related you can't find anywhere else. They were the only store to have the movie I was looking for. In addition they have a huge amount of fun toys, collectibles, clothing and electronics related to your favorite movies and shows. I highly recommend this place when looking for a gift for that movie or tv show buff. Also a great place to find that hard to find item. I will be sure to visit again! read more

I wish I had gotten the young ladies name working the register when we paid. She was totally honest with us about signing up for their discount card, it saved us 15% on our $100.00 purchase. I hate going into that mall, it's just too much cluster and chaos.... But when I heard F.Y.E. was selling vinyl now, I had to check it out. The section overall is a bit small but they have a LOT of different genre/variety jammed into such a small vinyl section which is dope. I had, literally the day before, added a Creedence Clearwater (greatest hits Chronicle) & Tribe Called Quest (greatest hits The Anthology) to my Amazon cart but hesitated that I might find them cheaper elsewhere... F.Y.E. had them for sale, brand new, for $5-10 less than I was reluctantly willing to spend on Amazon. Glad I hesitated and stumbled across them in-store (for cheaper) instead...and didn't have to wait for shipping either. Will be back for sure. read more
