Torn between giving 2 and 3 stars. Based on the fact I've been here before and the food was good on those visits, I'll give the 3 star based on a 2.5 rounded up. It has a diner feel -- booths and counter with backless stools. I opted for the counter since I was dining solo. The menu is full of options -- you can get breakfast fare all day long, along with many lunch-type options of sandwiches and salads. The staff is polite and friendly -- maybe a touch too-much in the way of "hello's" and "how are you" and "how is your food" by each and every staff member you come in contact with and multiple times. Dial it back a notch and I'd be ok with that. Food I've ordered before was good -- gyros, salads. Today, I decided I'd like a burger so ordered the Vanderburger. Sounded good, the part I read of the description on the menu: "This is our flagship! Our all time favorite has graced the pages of the pittsburgh post gazette and the valley daily news! ". Most of my diner experiences with burgers translates into big, fat, juicy meat, oozing with greasy goodness. Not so today. First, I'll take some of the heat for my expectations. I didn't read what the bread was going to be. Pita. Not what I was wanting and it made it almost impossible to pick up the huge 2 burger combo with lettuce, tomato, onions. Pita is just too flimsy. Sigh. Then, the taste. Seriously? It was way overcooked and dry as dry as could be. Honestly, I tried to smother it with ketchup and eat it with a fork but just couldn't eat more than a couple bites. And, I wasn't even going to complain. I just wanted out of there. However, I was asked how I liked my meal by I'm assuming the owner. I had to be honest and say it wasn't good -- too dry and overcooked. To be fair, he offered to replace it with something else but I declined; I, again, just wanted to be out of there. My server was very sweet and she offered to box it up for maybe an animal at home. She really was a very nice server from beginning to end and it's not her fault the burger failed. I just can't understand why this burger was written up in the menu with such accolades and if mine was just an off-day by the cook, then, surely the one who asked me how my meal was and my server should have just looked at it and been appalled. Or, if this was the usual burger getting the praise, I say no-way and decided to write it up in a review so others would be fore-warned. Actually, I don't know if I've ever had a burger this bad. So, to management, please fix it or remove from the menu. Oh, and I'm still hungry. Yes, my fault. I didn't let them serve me something else so I'll head to the vending machine next. read more

Don't be fooled by the padded 5 stars. Friends of owner and locals who get preferential treatment. By no means is the restaurant even close to 3 stars let alone the damn near 5 star review. Notice the replies from the owner to the people he knows personally. Paid reviews. Food is subpar at best, service is a joke and the back and forth amongst the staff is beyond unprofessional. This place is run by people who live together, roommates and locals. If you've ever seen the movie Waiting. This place takes the cake. By the way it's in a very prejudice town. Was in town for a funeral and searched breakfast on Yelp as I had an extra 40 minutes...extensive menu...actually a tad much for me but I ended up with your basic eggs, sausage & home fries...food was brought to the table quick, hot and everything tasted good...great service as well...I would recommend for breakfast as the place was packed as I had to wait for a table so obviously it's a good restaurant frequented by the locals read more

Walked in on a Thursday afternoon at about 5:30. Much too warm in there so I placed an order to take home. 40 minutes later a woman asked me if I had been waited on. She checked on my order and said it wasn't even started yet that they were seriously backed up. I left. Don't they know when their busy times are? Are they taking on more than they can handle? Do they need someone more qualified to do the scheduling? We are backed up is not an excuse. At least let the customer know so that they can choose whether to order or not. read more

LOVE this place! It's small so you do have to wait sometimes but the food is so very worth it and the staff are extremely friendly!

We've been here twice now, and the breakfasts were great. Crazy big portion of hash browns, enough for 3 people to share. Prices are good. Family owned, being passed on to 3rd generation now. Friendly atmosphere. Usually a wait for a table on weekend mornings, but the counter usually has seats open. There's a delicious selection of pies, but most are not made in-house. It is located in the "Historic District", and well known to local residents. I live in Apollo, 4 miles away, and eat here almost every week. There is a ton of parking in the village parking lot across the street. It is very clean and has GREAT food! I mainly eat breakfast here, but occasionally a lunch. Never had to wait long for a seat. They have booths, tables and bar seats. Service is always great. The owner always asks if everything is good. They recently replaced the entire floor and keep it clean. Fourth visit, probably last. Had burgers and hot turkey and meatloaf first three visits which were good and reasonably priced. Would have given three to four stars. This visit only two stars because the fries and slaw were good. Two meals this visit fried cod and fried chicken. Fish was way over cooked and just short of being burnt. Two pieces of chicken, one over cooked and the other was burnt to a crisp. Gave burnt piece back to wait staff and twenty minutes later he brought new piece with our guest check. I ate here a couple of times, the last only because a friend was working there at the time. The first two times I ate here, the coffee cups came complete with pink lipstick. One time the silverware looked like it had been at another table.(grease marks on the spoon). And another time the over easy eggs came out over hard. The toast was very well toasted. we have been here a few times now. the wait is always long which is a given and no big deal. however today after waiting 40 minutes to be seated we waited another 40 minutes after ordering to get an appetizer of fries. we had to personally ask for refills on our drinks as the waitress refused to stop and bring refills unless we stopped her and asked her. finally 30mins after the appetizer our table of 4 got their food, well 3 of 4 got their food. the 4th person's order NEVER came out. we stopped a worker and asked about it after the rest of the table was half way through their meal and he did nothing about it. finally after everyone else was done eating the waitress came over and said I'm sorry I don't know where your meal is. unfortunately after this experience we will not be back. we drove 30mins away to come here for this type of service is just ridiculous. word of advise, quit taking so many to go orders and actually serve the customers that are in your establishment. read more

I have dined here several times. Most of the food is very good. The chicken strips and salads are huge! The large sloppy fry is a meal eating challenge in itself. So good and cheesy too. One thing is for sure, all day breakfast is a major plus. Dont forget the desserts, holy cow they are to die for. I truly enjoy the coconut cream pie. Sadly their burgers arent that great. I've only eaten there once a couple of years ago and the food was excellent, one of the better places for us to have breakfast. Unfortunately, in the several times we've visited since, we've had trouble even getting in (which is likely a side effect of having excellent food). Our latest was our worst experience. When we walked in, were ignored by all of the wait staff, which were admittedly looking busy, but we weren't even acknowledged. My wife and I stood at the entrance with our 10-month old in our arms. I walked through the restaurant and saw no open tables, and knowing that we can't sit a baby at the counter, were forced to leave and dine elsewhere. All in all - Food is excellent, service is great (once/if you're seated) and I would recommend eating here if you're there early enough to find an empty space. read more

Nothing in the grift deserves five stars, but this is the best there is here. Portions and prices are big, and low, big food, low prices, breakfasts are great so are the sandwiches, I am a reuben fan, and theres are good, don't order seperate fries, share one order, unless you are Jennifer Bothel, and can eat like a hog who doesn't care about their waste line. The only bone I have is with their home fries, they are basically big chunks of potatoes, reheated, not really small enough and never get really browned and crispy, they need to be smaller cubes, and fried more, flipped more, to get a nice crispy finish. All in all, the place I recommend to folks looking for a good breakfast, or lunch here, dinner, maybe, but, you aren't going to find a really great assortment of entrees. read more
