Breakfast warning. Do NOT get the bacon. They 'deep fry' it and it looks and tastes like a strip of leather. I think I may have broken the dish had I banged the bacon on it. I 'asked' for 'pan fried' bacon, but there is no way this was pan fried. The eggs were good, but stay away from the bacon, cooks there do not know how to make a proper strip. read more

Looking for a quaint restaurant with a small home town feel but, serving up a great breakfast or sandwiches? This is the place. As we walked in for the first time, a server said to please sit anywhere we want. Quickly another server asked what beverages we wanted. Since we're here for breakfast, we both wanted coffee. Our server gave us some time to look over the menu then happily took our order. I got pancakes platter with eggs and ham slice. I also ordered a side of hash browns. My wife ordered Asiago roasted red pepper omelette with sausage patties for a side. As you may see from photos, this was a lot of food. Our server was terrific and our food was wonderful. G&G's was recommended to us by a friend and I'm glad it was! We showed up around 1:30pm on a Saturday. I was shocked there was a wait and that it was packed. It took a bit of time to be seated. Once we were seated, we experienced friendly staff and a huge menu! They serve breakfast all day. My daughter ordered the pancake and bacon, while my husband and I opted for lunch (meatloaf sandwich and reuben). My daughter ate ALL of her food which say's everything. My reuben was good- very thinly shaved corn beef. My husband had no complaints about the meatloaf. When you are done, you pay for your meal at the front. The owner Chris greeted us and was super friendly and helpful. This being our 1st time here, we found this refreshing. He spent time with us even though they were extremely busy. We got an appetizer of Pizza Logs. We enjoyed them with cold marinara dipping sauce. I had the meatloaf sandwich with French fries. They have a huge selection of made from scratch foods from soups to desserts. The brunch burger was huge and had to take around half home for another meal. We got a piece of peanut butter pie and chocolate meringue pie ( made there) To take home. There are so many dishes we want to try we will be back plenty! This is a spot that my Mom and her friends have gone on about for quite some time, and they always start talking about the pies. I was told they usually have a big selection, but the case was a little bare as they only had two pies, but they did look pretty good. We started with fried green tomatoes as they were offered as a limited time deal. They were very simply some green tomatoes with breading and they were offered with a horseradish dip that I'm always a fan of. They were pretty good and I would order them again. I went with a bacon cheeseburger with a side of cheese fries and I was really happy with the dish. They served seriously and thick bacon and my personal preference would have had the bacon cooked a bit crispier, but I'd happily order it again. The fries were also tasty. They had that soft, crispy outside and then that fluffy inside that really makes a fry enjoyable. The cheese looked like the incredibly processed kind that you'd get on a traditional Philly cheesesteak, or as I like to call it: delicious. My Wife had the Italian sausage omelette with a side of home fries. They cooked her omelet exactly how she requested the home fries portion was huge. She said it isn't her favorite breakfast spot, but she was happy with it overall. Lastly, they were pretty busy, but the servers were all very friendly and made sure to check in with us often. If you left G & G restaurant hungry you did something wrong. The portions are substantial enough to have more than a meal to take home from your plate. You could make one dish into three meals, four if you have incredible portion control. Luckily for G & Gs I don't, and every time I come to Vandergrift I enjoy their breakfasts which are served all day. The portions are huge and the food is tasty! Just try to not finish a delicious feta, tomato and spinach omelette made with, what had to be, an entire pack of spinach! Sides are included on some of the meals, not for the omelet. That means you can pick from a great selection from hash browns, home fries, tater tots, side meats and more! Not all agree with my stance on the crispy vs soggy bacon debate, but for those in the thick and crispy bacon camp, come to G&Gs. The bacon is thick and when ordered crispy, done to perfection!. I have yet to tour the entire menu, and with gluten free needs, there won't be much on the menu to explore outside of breakfast. That's ok because there are plenty of delicious breakfast items to try. I live far enough away that it will take a few trips here to fully explore all the menu. That's helpful for my waistline and wallet! If your cup runs low, there is a button to call your waitress to refill your coffee, too! Is it worth the drive? Yes, and for those heading towards Pittsburgh, I'd even recommend it as a worthwhile detour along your route. read more

This restaurant is a go-to when my wife and I travel to PA to visit our family, and we are usually happy to go since the food is pretty great! This past experience 05/22/21, was nothing like past experiences. Took the waitress 20 mins to acknowledge our existence and another 40 mins to get our food after we ordered. The only time we saw our waitress was to take our order and give us the check. It would've been nice to have a coffee refill but sadly that didn't happen. Some other person brought us our food, dropped it and was never seen again. The original waitress said "I'm sorry but I took 4 phone calls," when she brought the check as if this was acceptable. When we explained to my wife's parents why we were late coming back, they both laughed and said that is pretty normal to be ignored by staff and that is why they never go there anymore! But on the bright side, the food was amazing...too bad we couldn't finish it since we hadn't planned on spending a whole morning at this place and had other more pressing engagements to attend!
