The Herminie Diner turned out to be the perfect backdrop for a father-daughter breakfast that I didn't know I needed--but my 12 1/2-year-old daughter somehow did. These days, our quality time mostly consists of me asking her to put her phone down and her pretending not to hear me, so when she suggested breakfast on a Saturday morning, I threw myself into action like a guy late to a mid-life crisis yoga class. We landed at this charming little cash-only joint where the coffee flows freely, and the smiles are served as generously as the portions. I ordered the everything bagel sandwich loaded with sausage, egg, and cheese, which was so good I almost forgot I was still half-asleep. My daughter, meanwhile, ordered a pancake the size of a medium pizza, topped with strawberries and whipped cream. It was a sugary behemoth, a kind of breakfast Mount Everest that she nearly conquered in one sitting--an impressive feat given she had to dose for it like a breakfast chemist managing her type 1 diabetes. Watching her tackle that pancake made me prouder than I ever thought a flapjack could. The staff? Fantastic. The kind of cheery and attentive people who make you feel like they've been waiting their whole lives just to serve you breakfast. It's a rare skill these days. And let's talk about the price--it was shockingly reasonable. Compared to some other local breakfast spots where you have to take out a loan for bacon and eggs, Herminie Diner feels like an oasis of sanity. Just remember, they're cash-only, so unless you plan to barter pancakes for payment, come equipped with some greenbacks. Final verdict: The food was fantastic, the company even better, and if my daughter keeps choosing pancakes over Social Media, I'll be back every Saturday morning with bells on (and maybe a bigger wallet, just in case that pancake gets upgraded to "large pizza" size).

After a quick detour we stumbled upon this gem of a diner. The family owner diner took me by surprise, as I set my expectations to a greasy spoon and boy was I wrong. I was first blown away by our wonderful waitress Penny, just an amazing woman full of cheer and a smile to spark your day! Our food arrived within minutes after ordering and piping hot freshly grilled potatoes, beautifully prepared Hollandaise sauce and poached perfection. The chef and owner Jerry is always available to his fan club (all the patrons) as he greats his regulars and the newbies. Great diner, great food and great people.... We even returned the next day to validate our experience by bringing more people and again awesome!! Thanks to Athena our waitress!! B

This place is a gem in the Herminie area. The food is excellent and so is the service. The portions are large and everything is freshley made, as they should be in a rural type diner. I had two eggs over easy because I wanted to keep it light, but the homefries and large wheat bread had me stuffed. My wife had the veggie omlette, daughter had belgium waffles, and step son had bagel breakfast sandwich. All were very good. The pictures with this review do not lie! I live in the area and first went here when we moved here three years ago. We don't eat breakfast out much, so we don't frequent this place often. That is the only reason! If you are in the area, I would highly recommend the Herminie Diner. You won't be disappointed.

It was perfect had crisp edges, quality batter, it was just epically delicious, the omlette was fantastic, and the bacon was thick and cooked perfectly, the home fries were delish...i had great service and great food i have no negatives about the place, cute decor and a very nice owner(think it was the owner)... please note cash only but atm on site...100 percent the best diner outside the city and one of the best i ever been to!!! A hidden gem! We stopped on the way home from a family vacation and we're so glad we went off the beaten path for this place! The pizza sized pancake should be landmark on the map! Delicious food and great service.

11AM on a Tuesday. Shuttered up. Drove here because I was in the area. What gives? No signs explaining anything.

This is a great place for coffee, specialty drinks, breakfast or lunch…read more I have been here numerous times and always had a good (and tasty) experience. When you walk in, it has a warm, inviting vibe. There are a variety of tables and seating options (including some couch and comfy chair type seating). You order by going up to the counter, and they either call your order or will bring it to your table when it is done if you are eating it there. One down side is that there is a fairly large menu and it isn't always easy to find/see all of the options when you are waiting to order. My daughter saw someone got a bubble tea but at the time we were looking, that menu wasn't easy to spot so we didn't even know it was something they offered! All of their food items are made to order (well, I suppose except for the soup which is home made and just dished out to order). They even have soup flights on certain days! I need to go back and try that because every soup I've ever had here has been delicious. They have the standard coffee menu but also always have some unique and quirky seasonal options. They also have smoothies, bubble teas and some other unique creations. They have tasty breakfast and lunch sandwiches, breakfast scrambles, mac and cheese and a variety of sandwiches. You can easily customize your meals and the staff is great about providing recommendations. It can take awhile to get your food/drinks, but that is because everything is made to order. A fun and tasty place for a bite to eat or a sweet treat!

Everything tastes like it was made from scratch that day, because it probably was. I had the house made fettuccine and it was on another level. Perfect texture, rich sauce, and portions that actually leave you satisfied. Even the bread and appetizers felt elevated, not like an afterthought. The atmosphere hits that sweet spot too. Upscale without feeling stuffy. Great for a date night or just treating yourself to a quality meal. Service was sharp, attentive, and knew the menu inside and out. If you are looking for authentic Italian that does not cut corners, this is one of those places you keep coming back to.

I really enjoy that the pasta is fresh and the menu isn't 40 pages long. It's straight to the point and you know what you're getting based on what is listed under the pasta shape. My short rib ricotta gnocchi was good but I do wish it had a bit more salt to bring more of the flavor to the front. The gnocchi texture was perfect and pillowy. The short rib mixed in nicely with all of the pasta and the sauce. My spouse enjoyed the cannelloni, which was pretty much their lasagna but also wanted a bit more salt. Our server was very nice and walked us through the menu options as well as told us about the seafood special for the night. The bread came out first and was delicious. The salad was also good and I don't usually like arugula. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and I enjoy that they take the time to do that. The space is very cute and you can't really miss it even with it being in an executive building. It's a smaller area but it can seat a good amount of people. We noticed they had a pasta making class so maybe next time we're in town, we can do it. The red sangria had a great balance where it wasn't too sweet. We didn't do dessert but we did enjoy the digestif at the end with limoncello and my spouse ate the amaretti cookies as I couldn't.

Here are my ratings for some recent foods: Soy Glazed Salmon - 5 stars - The salmon was a good size, was cooked nicely, and had a sweet soy glaze. It was served over flavorful brussels sprouts, carrots, and potatoes. Veal parmesan - 4 stars - Veal tenderloin medallions were breaded and topped with tomato sauce and provolone cheese. I liked that the breading was not soggy. Pecan-encrusted chicken salad - 4 stars - Chicken breast was encrusted with pecan breading and served atop a house salad with pecans, tomatoes, dried cranberries, and mandarin oranges. After an extremely long sixteen hour shift at work I knew I needed one thing before I headed home…read moreand slept for a majority of the day. That one day was a greasy, heavy breakfast. Something that would sit in my stomach and make me feel satisfied. Quick search on Yelp to find a diner like setting for such and this was the nearest to where I was at that point in my commute. Keystone Kitchen sits in a plaza off of Route 22 in New Alexandria, from the outside it doesn't look like much. Once you go inside it looks like a country cabin diner, if that makes sense. The sounds in here are those of a diner and the smells are that of a diner. However, what is different is the decor. Kind of like a hunting cabin with the wood decor that is everywhere. The tables and booths were well used, making me know that this place is well liked and frequented enough to make it a local staple. When I came in I was greeted right away and told I could sit wherever I wanted. Shortly after finding a seat I had a menu in hand and a drink order placed. I was left to look over the menu. At the time of the visit I got to look over the breakfast menu. I was especially craving biscuits and gravy. My mind just kept telling me that and I was going to just order a combo with that as a side. That is until I made myself look over the menu one more time. That's when I spot the number 5 combo breakfast meal. That combo would give me everything that I needed at that moment in time. The number five combo is two eggs cooked they way you like, choice of either breakfast potatoes or hash browns, and the biscuit and gravy I was craving. I went with two dippy eggs (that's sunny side up for you non-western Pennsylvanians) and hash browns to accompany my biscuit and gravy. When it showed up in front of me, I couldn't wait to dig into that plate. I didn't know it, but I was starving. The eggs were perfect, cut into them and the yolks started running all over the plate, that was perfect to me. The hash browns had that outer crust on them that gave you the crunch and the inner parts were that warm potato that just hits you. Best part about it is that you can mix them with either the runny egg yolk or the extra gravy that definitely spilled over from the biscuit. The biscuit and gravy, oh my god, amazing. The biscuit is made in house which means they are fresh and tasty. The gravy has this sweet and savory mix going for it. The pieces of sausage in the gravy are amazing little pops of flavor. Little bit of spice in there, but everything balances out. It really livens up the dryness of the biscuit. This meal was what I set out for, satisfying. The service here, way above the bar. I mean there is great service and then there is Keystone Kitchen. Very attentive, interacting with everyone in here, letting you know who the regulars are, and very on top of their game. I really enjoyed the meal, it hit the spot and definitely put me to sleep when I finally did home for morning.
