Service was rough this visit: 35 + min for a taco salad (they were very busy inside, but the patio was not even at 1/3 capacity, so for those of us sitting on the patio we would have no idea that the inside was super busy). Clearly experienced waitress was apologetic about the long wait when finally serving my lunch, but having waitressed for many of my earlier years, I would've liked to have heard that there was going to be a long wait when I sat down (she said unexpected busy Labor Day weekend); I would've liked the option to have opted out, as I was traveling and was looking for a quick meal break (just my opinion, but it's far better to lay out timing expectations from the onset so people can decide if they have the time to wait [then to apologize for them after the fact, when people are already frustrated and wondering why the wait felt unreasonable]). My husband got the chili verde chimichanga with rice and beans. The food was fresh and the plates were hot. I really enjoyed my meal and liked the flavors of the shrimp and chicken topped with cheese and fresh mushrooms. I must have been hungry because I cleaned the plate. The beans were good, and had a sweeter flavor like I like. The rice was cooked well and did not have any undercooked crunchy bits. I would surely return again when I'm in the area.

I decided to be adventurous and ordered the sweetbreads. I'll admit it--I had absolutely no idea what sweetbreads were. I figured maybe it was some kind of bread with gravy. Nope. Turns out I had ordered a classic delicacy made from organ meat. My partner looked it up while I was halfway through eating it and told me exactly what I was eating. Did I stop? Absolutely not. It was damn good, and I'll wear that experience like a badge of honor from now on. Sometimes the best meals happen when you step outside your comfort zone. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, the flavors were outstanding, and the family-style meal made the experience even better. The service was warm, welcoming, and exactly what you'd hope to find in a historic restaurant that's been serving travelers for generations. The Martin Hotel isn't just another place to eat. The service was good and all the employees were friendly. Dinner is served family style with your party along with other parties who are seated at your table. At first I was skeptical of this, but we actually had some really good conversations with two other couples at our table. You receive complimentary starters that will be passed from one end of the table to the other. The complimentary dishes were all really good and filling. We all ordered their dinner special which was a New York strip with mushrooms and garlic. We requested extra garlic, but the garlic was pretty much raw (should have been sautéed). The New York had way too much fat which was disappointing because it was only a 10 oz. I didn't try their bread pudding because I was so stuffed with all the sides I ate, but those at our table mentioned it was delicious. The complimentary glass of wine was a nice touch to start the evening. I ordered myself a Picon drink (I believe this is their signature drink) and it was really refreshing. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try. I will definitely be a returning customer whenever I am either visiting or passing through Winnemuccca.

I do like the speed limit out here on the 80 is 80mph., but that adds to the gas guzzling. This Maverik station isn't exactly right off the freeway, but it's worth it to go to cause the store and restrooms are so nice. Get off from eastbound 80 on the business 80 exit and go to Hansen Street and go over the bridge over the railroad tracks and it's right there, can't miss it. All the pumps take credit cards just fine and are all modern. All fuel grades as well as diesel are available. We all pile out as I fill the tank. The crew goes inside to use the restrooms and get some road food. I told my one guy to get me some Funyons! This stop was with out any problems, all gassed up and back on the road. I went in and used the restrooms and they were more or less pretty clean. I fill a big cup with come coke and off we go till we need gas again!

Half of the soda fountain was down, no Diet Coke and the bathroom was disgusting. The garbage cans at the pumps were all overflowing and the whole station felt dirt and neglected. I won't be stopping here again.
