I've eaten at this place on and off for 45 years. It's mostly been mediocre and at times there was a whole lot of crazy with the one owner's wife. It seems to have leveled out. Good was solid. Update: Had breakfast here again, with a much more disappointing experience. Decided to try one of the daily specials, Huevos Rancheros, which is one of my favorites, but the plate came out with many fried elements. The Hashbrown patties had been deep fried, as well as mini tortillas, something I've never seen before. I don't like fried food, and don't expect that for breakfast, so I had to send that back. So I opted for what I had there before, a veggie omelette. The food was OK, not bad, not great. It was also not something I would go out of my way for. Service was also not good. It was not busy, but I almost got up and left when nobody came over to take my order. I had to keep looking around and staring down a server. I requested that she top off the coffee frequently as I like coffee really hot, but each time I had to request it. And in the end, though I asked for a check, I wasn't presented with a bill. I had to go to the register to pay where she presented the total, which took me by surprise. $16 for an omelette and a cup of coffee in a divey place. Since this place changed hands there is no Farmers' Omelette on the menu. That's the only thing I ever ordered so I'm pretty sad. Rooster, one of the chefs who worked there when Dennis owned the place, was working for the new owner the last time I went. When I saw him in the kitchen I crossed my fingers and asked the waiter if Rooster could make me a farmers omelette. Rooster acted like he didn't know what the waiter was talking about. He came back with some story about how the chef said that omelette can be any combination of meat, veggies, and cheese blah blah blah. True but also utter BS. I wanted the Farmers' Omelette I knew that he knew how to make. Rooster, I used to adore you. I worshipped your farmers' omelettes. That day you broke my heart. I do want to leave this review on a good note though. This place has THE BEST pancake. They are made from scratch and are cooked perfectly. Everyone at the table loved their food. I think you might have to bring your own real maple syrup, which we usually do. We also bring our own butter, too, because, well, we love good grassfed butter and hate having to keep asking for more. They still serve great coffee and they always have a nice selection of eggs benny. I can't order them because of the gluten but my grandson loves them. read more

We come here regularly and are quite pleased with both the service and the food. Even cooler: The Happening filmed a scene here! It's the best cozy cabin vibe around, I can't wait to come around Christmas time. Definitely come before 8:30AM on a weekend. The line was outrageous by the time we were served food last weekend. We arrived around 8:15 am and it was already packed; just two of us so we sat at the counter ! Then shortly after we just heard tons of people piling in asking for seating and there was a wait. Finally had a chance to try this place and was not disappointed. It is small but friendly. Each of my visits have been early enough to be seated right away. I ordered the Dagwood sandwich and was very happy with it. Large enough to take home half. My dining companion has tried the pancakes and French toast and liked them and the sausage links very much. Different cheesesteak #1,000 in the last four years. I love Jim T's cooking and this is old building. Mark Wahlburg filmed a movie here with M Night Shyamalan. Jim cooks a very good ribeye. When I go back I am going to get the ribeye in one of the other 5 menu items. Probably the cheesesteak omelette. Everything was good, for me it just didn't work as a cheesesteak. I don't hate kaiser rolls. It had a good amount of cheese surrounding the meat but I like it mixed together. Jim's ribeye doesn't really need mushrooms and onions but mushrooms and onions can enhance good ribeye. I would have liked more mushrooms and onions. read more

Met my friend here for breakfast at what she affectionately calls the G Spot. Very old building with exposed wood beams. The bathrooms have the old heavy barn style doors with the metal latches that you have to lift up to get out. Very cool. The diner style seating adds a nice touch. Extensive menu with many items that I wanted to try like the strawberry cream cheese french toast, crepes, and banana walnut french toast. I chose the Island french toast that had pineapple, pecans, and coconut. I was served a very large portion and it was very good. Couldn't eat it all. My friend had the maui fruit salad which had blueberries, raspberries, bananas, and more! It came with yogurt on the bottom. My friend was pleased to hear she could get it with Greek yogurt. My friend ordered scrapple which shockingly, I have never had. I know, I'm from Pennsylvania Dutch country I should have had this many times before now. My mother certainly ate a lot of it! If you don't know what scrapple is, you probably don't want to know. However, I tried it and liked it! Go me! Our waitress, Karen, was lovely and kept our cups full of coffee and earl grey, my fav. Lunch items sounded good and if I was there for lunch, I would have had the pork roll. As a side note, the famous director my Indian friend calls Shamalamadingdong filmed a scene from The Happening here. If you haven't seen The Happening, don't. Ugh, after two tries since the new owners took over I'm sadly crossing G Lodge off my list. My husband ordered eggs and specified "nearly burnt" bacon. I ordered a croissant with a side of bacon; I didn't realize I'd have to expressly say I didn't want my bacon burnt but thats how it arrived nonetheless. If I order a steak I don't expect it to show up the same doneness as my dining partner, I feel like the cook just didn't really care to differentiate between the orders. The server did offer to take it back for a re-do but we were in a hurry so I gave it to my hubby who did enjoy it. My croissant was grilled in what tasted like really old butter. The menu did not indicate the croissants were grilled so I was expecting a warm flaky croissant. It was so bad the lingering rancid taste remains in my mouth. So disappointing. To top it all off it was startlingly expensive. ***The service was outstanding, the woman who took our order was top-notch. read more

Breakfast was good, and the breakfast potatoes were fantastic. Tip to the owner, if you want to be taken seriously as a breakfast place, and not just another greasy spoon like before, get real maple syrup, not cheap "breakfast syrup" in little packages. Lunch was a huge disappointment and a huge rip off. The waitress recommended the fried chicken sandwich and said it was the owners favorite. Right off the bat, it was the tiniest chicken sandwich I've ever seen...The whole sandwich was the same proportions as a plain McDonald's cheeseburger (the one you actually get, not the one in the menu pictures in the drive-through). It actually looked silly on the plate. Chicken was just OK, and the consistency was not of an actual chicken breast, more like a processed chicken patty. It came with a small pile of potato chips for eight bucks. Truly a stone cold rip off. My friends sandwich was very small as well. Service was excellent, so I might return. read more

As someone who tries to eat gluten free because of a wheat sensitivity, this is a wonderful place to enjoy good food. I recently had their Smash Burger reimagined as a Patty Melt on gluten free bread. I prefer cheddar or American cheese instead of Swiss and they had no problem making the substitution. It was absolutely yummy. Another must have is their homemade soup. Most are gluten free and I've enjoyed all the the options that qualify and usually take some home for later. We live in the neighborhood so the G lodge is convenient. The menu is massive allowing for many options for your whole group. Cash only- don't forget We eat a lot of breakfast in Phoenixville. I feel like the G lodge prices are a little bit higher for something regular such as eggs and bacon. I would say we spent $30 for two people to have breakfast. We're used to pay $20 for breakfast total. The food is ok, not terribly exciting. A lot of things were previously frozen instead of fresh ingredients. Every now and then everyone needs a greasy diner food meal, am I right? To live up to the nostalgia, watch the happening before you go! I used to come here on Sunday mornings with my family. It has an intimate feel inside and the food is OK. It was especially cool to know that the movie, "The Happening," was filmed partially at the G lodge. My complaints are that the food is just mediocre, the place is somewhat dark and its cash only. There also seems to be a lot of bikers and hunters here (real country), but also lots of young families. Their mushrooms are always fresh and amazing! I left after 20 min of NO service . They seem to think you came in for their benefit and should be grateful they let you in . I've never had eggs at a restaurant come out cooked correctly the first time, but they nailed it. The food was amazing, the home fries were seasoned well and cooked perfectly, and the coffee was very good. The portions were generous and the servers were polite, attentive, and efficient. Inside is cozy and quaint. Exactly what I'd expect from a 'lodge'. I found it to be generally clean and well kept. My only word of caution is that they are cash only (ATM on premises) so plan ahead to bring enough cash to tip fairly. read more

There was one time she followed a customer to their car and knocked on the window because the customer didn't leave a decent tip. The food is good but the staff and the price is not. OK... So this place may not be the most visually appealing.... a run down log cabin on the side of the road. I even ignored the blatant warning signs of impending doom when we walked in the front door and saw a TV screen showing photos of the food. As a party of 4 on a Sunday morning at noon, they sat us right away. The coffee was strong and fresh. The menu had lots of options that included huevos rancheros, crab benedict, and pumpkin stuffed French toast! My boyfriend and I decided to team up to experience the full range of options. Teaming up with a vegetarian at a breakfast establishment (especially when nursing a slight hangover) is truly a labor of love. We split the mushroom, spinach and American omelet with wheat toast and hash browns (the little patties like at McDonalds!!!), and the strawberry cream cheese stuffed French toast. He also got a side of bacon. I must mention that the ordering convention was really strange. I was always a believer that etiquette dictates that the ladies order first, and then the gents... and don't get me wrong, this wasn't a fancy spot by any means... but our server went right to the boys who were sitting catty-corner from one another, clearly saving the ladies for last. It was strange and deliberate enough that we all noticed and mentioned it after she walked away. That being said, i never saw the bottom of my cup, which I thought was great! Our food didn't take long to come out, and when it did, it was a perfect portion. We divided up our food right down the middle, and dug in. I must say, it's been a while since I raved about eggs... but my omelet was FABULOUS! Cooked to perfection, fresh tasting ingredients, and lots and lots of butter! The hash browns were crispy and warm and salted perfectly and also amazing. I wish my strawberry cream cheese stuffed french toast had real strawberries incorporated in it somewhere, but what i had was delicious. I can't, in good faith, say something bad about it. Just a tip to make it better. All in all, we had a fabulous, fairly priced, amazingly filling breakfast. We didn't have to wait long, and the food was really just delicious. I love the g lodge. They make a fantastic breakfast and lunch. Quick, easy, and affordable. All their soups are made from scratch (I'm a soup-a-holic but I am getting treatment). Is is quirky? Yup. They are very convenient to Phoenixvile, K of P, and Norristown. Why isn't everyone here already???!!! On a side note, since I frequent this place more than the local massage parlor, I have gotten to know the owner and the "troubled waitress". The waitress works solely on tips. She is NOT paid by the owner. She gets upset when people assume that she is part owner and therefore should not get a usual tip. She should be tipped like every other waiter/waitress.
