Recently I needed to have a vehicle towed in the Baton Rouge area and after contacting several towing companies I learned that none could help anytime soon; with G.M. Varnado Towing being located in Denham Springs I thought they would be less likely to help, but I called anyway. To my surprise Lisa told me that they could pick up my vehicle in a short time! We were stuck with a completely flat tire not far from Varnado's. We'd been there almost 2 hours waiting for my daughter's warranty company to send roadside assistance. this place is the most terrible towing place I have EVER DEALT WITH!!! I do NOT recommend whatsoever!!! they literally towed my car WHEN I WAS THERE!!! my car ran out of gas on the side of the road and I came back 30 min later and the tow truck wasn't even there yet! I was told there was nothing he could do bc he was under contract and had to tow it!!!! Wth! then on top of that it has only been 18 hours since they towed my vehicle and I go to get it out the yard and it cost me $300!!!!! they charged me for TWO DAYS THAT IS 48 hours!!! the lady argued with me and told me midnight counted as one day but they wouldn't let me come get it before midnight last night! I'm disgusted with how they are truly ripping people off left and right in our community. read more

The folks at GM. Varnado & Sons were so friendly and helpful from the time I walked into the office until the job was completed. We were towed in on a Sunday night, Monday morning shared with them our power steering had gone out on our 40' RV. They contacted Frieghtliner, overnighted parts from Memphis and had it all repaired by Tuesday afternoon. They also allowed us to continue to live in our Coach with our 3 dogs and 2 cats. So.... I got on line today to Google Varnado's (what I call them) number and call about some tires for my daughter's car and I see a horrible negative review. I'm shocked. We have a family fleet of (5) vehicles and I don't trust anyone more than them with all of our service work and tires as well. I have never been treated in any way besides courteous and friendly. Some of our vehicles are older models and I'm not even a good YouTube mechanic! When I haven't understood the issues or needs for my vehicle, they have always explained it clearly and even showed it to me in the shop prior to doing the work. While I was in the shop, I noticed some things as well, like it's clean except for the many vehicles that people have delivered to them to work on. My grandfather always said to never eat at a restaurant with an empty parking lot at meal time and never leave your vehicle with a mechanic that has no cars/trucks to work on. I don't throw rocks at people who have business to work on and stop what they're doing to accommodate me when I'm in a bind. That means something to me. There have been cases when they have not been the most economical or efficient choice for work I've needed performed and I learned that because THEY told me up front and advised where get the work done. They have always been completely transparent and there have never been any "tacked on" charges to my invoice that I didn't approve. There's a very good reason they are working on the transportation vehicles that carry our children to and from school and I understand it completely and applaud the decision by the school board to do so. Some of the parts of my vehicle are worn out from age and I understand that. I also understand that sometimes, when I change one part, it reveals underlying problems with other parts that then need to be addressed. I would never lay blame for my "rotted out" parts on a service organization after I complain about price and request parts cleaning only. When I speak to the integrity of these people and this local business, I am also not speaking of one isolated experience but YEARS of awesome experiences. With almost 30 years of supervision experience in the industrial/refinery service market, I've seen other consistent behaviors - take my finished work to my competitor and they'll find problems with it - whether they exist or not. Substandard work is not something Varnado's is known for. I don't tie up a lot of my time writing positive or negative reviews on any business but I have seen nothing but consistent transparency , fairness, and courtesy from 20+ business exchanges. Impeccable customer service is rare in today's economy and I, along with many other local people who have experienced the level of business integrity that I have, will continue to recommend them to everyone I see in need. We all have to decide where to spend our hard earned money and I will spend mine with this business and consider it a great investment. I suppose that's why this review reads like it might be more of a rant... I'm personally offended by the negative comments and accusations levied against my vendor of choice to keep myself and my family safe when on the road. Terrible. Do not take your truck, RV, car or anything there for service or repair. I had my motorhome towed into their facility in need of a fuel pump. Big mistake, I was now a target. In order to replace the fuel pump the fuel tank needed to be removed. I agreed to their highly inflated quote to remove the tank, clean the tank and replace the fuel pump. Yes they replaced the fuel pump, I even paid for two new front tires which they suggested I should get and they sent me down the road. Took the RV to a fuel station and filled the tank, while leaving the station I smelled fuel, shortly after the RV began to shutter then the engine cut out almost causing an accident due to the loss of breaking and steering. I wound up on the side of the road for hours until the Sheriff and tow truck arrived. The RV was towed to another shop which discovered three screws missing from the installation of the new fuel pump I just paid Varnado & Sons to install, this allowed fuel to excessively leak from the tank and a potential fire hazard. Upon further inspection the reason the engine quit was due to contaminated fuel which was a result of a totally rotted out fuel tank, which I paid Varnado & Sons to clean, they did not even look into the tank. I called the company and they said the RV was old and they were just trying to get me out of there. I appreciate quick turnaround, however I spent double what the repair should have cost and wound up spending even more on the same problem shortly afterward, not to mention endangering my life and the others around me. This is the first bad review I have ever done, however I believe I need to inform others to beware of this company. Poor workmanship and inflated pricing, not to mention irresponsible. I could go on and on but the message I'm trying to convey is that this is big equipment these people are working on, in fact I saw many school buses in the yard. I would hate this to happen to someone else, or to have my child riding on a bus that Varnado & Sons had previously worked on. read more
