Gabe's is the trading name for Gabriel Brothers, Inc. They operate over 100 department stores in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Electronics, luggage, canned/boxed food (nothing fresh) and shoes too. Prices are generally clearly marked and they have constant sales and discounts. Do keep an eye on the labels - not everything that says "large" is actually "large." And if you're shopping with kids, look out for the candy and other brightly colored stuff in the check-out aisle. The store, to some degree, seemed to reasonably price some nice items which is somewhat rare, but when I tried to work there, even though I was offered the job, three different women were extremely rude and insulting to me over the phone, and I did not feel I would be able to work in a place as nonsensical as that. I was so disappointed in the the difference between shopping there and trying to get a job there. read more

Great prices! Lots of just random things from home decor, clothing, suitcases, kitchen supplies etc. I don't really come here often just stopped pass to get my nephew some shorts and I always get a new mug wherever I go. They have great deals on mason jars always!!!! Check it out! read more

I experienced Gabe's for the first time when I went shopping in Morgantown, West Virginia. Why I was in Morgantown is a story for another day. Anywho, it was called Gabriel Brothers then. They then opened a few stores in Ohio I remember Gabe's having just about everything you could think of including clothes for men, women, and children, footwear, purses, accessories, household goods, home decor, electronics, and beauty products. I haven't seen a Gabe's in years and was surprised to run across one in Charlotte! I was interested to see if it is the same unorganized, chaotic, mess that I experienced years ago. To my surprise it wasn't! This Gabe's was clean and organized! Staff were all over the store straightening, stocking, and cleaning. I saw some designer brands including Betsy Johnson, Express, Bebe, Tahari, the Sak, and Ralph Lauren. Some perfumes included Vera Wang Glam Princess, Burberry, Guess, Juicy Couture. In the electronics dept., they had Sharper Image. You will see a little bit of everything but don't expect to see the same thing twice. The inventory changes all the time. If you want it, buy it quick or it'll be gone! I enjoyed my shopping experience and got plenty of bargains including two packs of Christmas-themed socks that will completely humiliate my family when they put them on their feet X-mas Eve! I enjoy perusing the aisles​ at Gabe's once in a while especially​ to browse through the isles on a quiet weekday. By the weekends, I know the tore to be thoroughly roughed up so I stay away during that time. I have recently found that housewares and home goods will produce a number of unexpected items that I choose not to live without. During the winter months, I have found coats for the children at awesome prices. Of course, I happened to visit the store early in the season long before the crowds. Never will I ever go back into a Gabe's. Cheap stuff. The juniors clothing was terrible with nothing to choose from and very low quality. I would compare it to Burlington than Ross. I only some nice grass skirts and simple handbags from Saks that were decent. read more

Before going out looking for Halloween costume pieces I had never heard of Gabes or even knew it existed where it was. What a surprise the store was! It's really large for one thing! And all you will find inside is deals on deals! Not only did I find what I needed they had great decorative supplies on clearance! I was paying 20 cents for items that would cost a few dollars somewhere else! They have tons of clothes for men and women as well as children. They have name brands as well as generics. I can't stress enough how great it was to find about Gabes. They came in clutch and now that I know about the store I'll be back to do some regular shopping!! read more

I love this store, but if you don't love the hunt for a unique item, at a deal, don't bother coming here. You might find only one in the whole store, so you have to be ready for that if your shop the long racks. It's likely there won't be another size. But there's so much selection you're sure to find something and it might be 7.99 or even less. The jewelry price also can't be beat. Most things are 3.99. Shoes: there's a lot of ugly stuff but when you do find that one pair you'll be happy you spent the time going through the stacks. I also think the other locations seem to have better, less odd, shoe selection. Best price on charging cables and sunscreen that I've seen. Everything else of household items is inconsistent as far as if you'll find a deal or even anything cute. Some prices are good, some things aren't a deal at all. Cheap clothes, what more can I say? Staff is friendly, which is a plus but I go to this store for a discount. Snagged 5 sets of baby shoes, prices are solid. Just ensure you try on the clothes before you leave because some items have irregular fittings. read more

My family and I went into Gabes and was asked if we wanted masks by a woman and we declined . She said "okay" and nothing further . We shopped around for an hour , passing several employees and another woman not wearing a mask . We stood in line & once we got to the front we noticed an older melanted woman with glasses and short curly hair staring at us . After about 2 minutes of standing in front of the line , we looked at her & she said " do you know you're suppose to be wearing a mask"? My boyfriend responded " I don't allow people to tell me what I must / must not put on my body " . With no response , she stood there continuing to stare . My boyfriend asked if she was going to stare at him until he leaves and she said yes . It was not made clear that we would not be checked out for not having masks on . After about 5 minutes of standing in the front of a long line behind us , I began to notice 3 out of about 4 cashiers turning around from their cashiers as if there was no one in line . I felt we were being ignored so I asked the older woman " are you not going to check us out miss"? She didn't respond . I received a response from the cashier standing directly beside her , whom after checking out her last customer said " I'm sorry but without masks , we cannot serve you" . We left our cart were it was and left . We felt it was borderline harassment for her to stare at us & ignore my question . We have been to this location since the beginning of the "pandemic" with no issues . If this policy was so important to this store we should've been turned away when we declined masks or when passing other employees . We will never return to Gabes & even though our time was not well spent there I'm glad we were turned away because we were accepted at Bargain Hunt just 1 minute away , I found got more for my money & with my style , I liked what I shopped for even better than what I would've gotten at Gabes. read more

I like Gabe's it's a good place to look around and find small items of clothing for everyday wear. But what made me come here to Yelp and review is that I am so proud of them for handing my issue so well. I accidentally walked out with out my bag,(yes that happened) and I came back a couple days later when I realize it and they did not give me any trouble or attitude. They help me find items similar in price since I could not find the same item as the first time and I'm just so happy it didn't turn out as a waste of money. This reminds me of a Ross Dress for Less on steroids. It is HUGE! The store offers so many clothing options- brand name and not. There is a home section. The electronics section has tons of phone charges for every phone for very cheap. Make sure you have a lot of time to devote to the store. I could easily spend 2 hours in here. read more

This store is pretty clutch with the prices. A lot of the merchandise is labeled irregular so you really need to look at the garments if you decide to take it home with you. Bargains are here galore. I had a little difficulty in finding the small sizes for the men however I was forced into digging and combing the racks. Thrift store prices for decent and brand named items. I left with two pair of pants and some shoes I couldn't pass up. I highly recommend this place for the baller on a budget. read more

Whoa. Gabe's is an experience. Tons of deals but you have to be willing to dig. I love a great deal but I don't have the patience to dig through the racks. I did see some mall brands like Express and White House Black Market. This is the Walmart equivalent of TJ Maxx. read more

Manager Is very incompetent She has a very nasty attitude And tried to humiliate me in the store She would not Give me a refund for a mistake they made She practically accused me of trying to return a dress that I brought from the store Even though I had a receipt The dress did not have a tag on it because the cashier who rang me up that night Did not put a tag on the dress She went and found a dress similar to the one I was purchasing And never put a tag on the one that she gave me I tried to explain that to the manager that was on duty . The Other employees and the cashier told me that she was new and did not know how to do anything When I spoke to the manager and told her that the cashier did not put a tag on the Dress When I brought it The manager responded I am not going to Risk my job over this She said I have a right to refuse you A refund and service if I want to and she said that in front of the store in front of all the customers I told her that she was treating me as if I am a criminal trying to return a dress that doesn't belong to this store I have my receipt she said she's not taken the dress back I told her why don't you look at the cameras from last night all you have to do is look at the time on the receipt see the cashier Ring up the dress and didn't make a tag for the dress. She said no and I would have to come back when the lady who rang me up is there.Come to find out the person who rang me up was a manager I Gave a description of the lady who rang me up To the other cashier they knew exactly who I was talking about The other workers was extremely nice and they told the manager who the person was it didn't matter the manager had a nasty attitude said she wasn't going to put my job in jeopardy over a dress I told her how she was making me feel in all she did was get louder I don't know if she was having a bad day or is this just her personality What she tried to do was humiliate Me I ended up Leaving without a refund So now I will return everything I brought that night and will never shop at that store again. lf I could give just the manager a rating I would give her a 0 she has no customer service read more

My experience visiting this particular Gabe's location with my mother for the very first time was unpleasant. When checking out, the sales person #12015 was very rude and apparently has had no experience with customer service. While waiting in line she shouted at me and my mother to come to the register like we couldn't understand her. I asked her how she was doing because she was very disgruntled. She never responded and had an attitude with us, like we were an inconvenience. She never showed any kindness and never thank us at the POS. As I was leaving, I told my mother " I have never been treated like this and that she was rude." The associate then yelled at us "Don't ever come back to this store!". I was shocked and didn't want confrontation with this uncivilized person. I am also in the retail industry and know how customers are treated. She apparently was incompetent. This was the second incident the first incident was during the holiday system when the store manager (White slender male) when he wanted to argue because I had a Rugged bonus card and a Gabe's that his employee told me I could sign up for. At this time I was purchasing over $200 in merchandise but the manager started complaining about that you should not have two bonus cards. In order to get points you have to spend a certain amount of money so the point are earned through purchases. This guy was rude if I would have been shopping for myself I would have left. A week ago I attempted to make a purchase again this time he was beyond rude. They had clearance sticker on the item but it did not ring up for the correct price so they had someone to look up the price no one showed up I waited, It is a lot more to the story because not only was the store worker rude the same manager was rude he cut me off, he refused to apologize for the time I had to wait or his employee behavior. He said he would not apologize because they needed to make sure they had the right price. He then had the audacity to ask me if I wanted the stuff or not. I politely said "No" and I left my cart (overflowing) right at the counter. I called the customer service to make a complaint but no one has responded to my calls.
