This place didn't work for us. My husband arrived ten minutes late to a beard trim appointment because he accidentally went to a similarly named barbershop a four minute walk up the street, Gabe's. Gabriel wasn't able to accommodate the original appointment anymore, which is completely understandable. But then he told my husband he was booked for the rest of the day, week and into mid next week. When I checked his availability online a moment later, where I had been advised to schedule, he still had a 2:30 pm that day and several more appointments available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week. As I write this review almost 36 hours later, there are still openings. If Gabriel had wanted my husband as a client he wouldn't have lied about his availability. My husband understood the message and went back to the first barbershop for his beard trim. It seems odd to me to be so annoyed with a customer, for an innocent mistake, that you don't want their business in the future. read more

Just move back into the area, did a search and found Gabriel's barbershop, and man am I glad I did. Amazing haircut, Gabriel is a master at his craft. He is also a great conversationalist which lends to the whole ambience and atmosphere of the barbershop experience. Great location, easy parking, definitely a gem of a find. read more

Rust Belt was booked all day (as they always are) so I walked down Allen hoping to find someplace I gab get a quit haircut to fix this mop on my head. Walked in pretty awkwardly but was immediately greeted and welcomed in. I asked if it was cool if I was a walk-in, and he said they *only* do walk-ins, so it was perfect. The place is extremely small and there's only one barber so if there's a wait, you'll be waiting a lot longer than you normally would for any other barbershop, but I would definitely say it's worth it. The haircut was on par with Rust Belt, but with half the time in-chair. Got a great fade in literally no time and was just $20 - would definitely recommend this place if you need a quick solid cut from a friendly (and pretty attractive, if I say so myself) guy. read more

I hesitated a long time before going to Gabriel's Barbershop. When it comes to how I present myself I'm a pretty conservative guy. There's nothing particularly hip or fashionable about me. So I'd always worried about going to Gabriel's. Was it too edgy for me? Would I feel out of place if I didn't have a lot on ink? Would Gabriel be offended if I didn't want a fade? But finally I was desperate for a cut and, feeling bold, I went in one recent weekday afternoon. No other customers. Gabriel hops up off the beat up couch, greets me warmly, shows me to a chair, and asks me what I'm looking for. He doesn't seem bothered at all that I just want it short on the back and sides, longer on the top and no fade. He senses my comfort level and is totally fine with it. Also not upset that I don't remember - I never can - what clipper length I usually get on the back. He just goes to work. Meanwhile he makes the usual barber small talk, but immediately tailors it to what he hears from/about me. Very interesting conversation really. I don't mean that to sound snotty, I just really enjoyed getting to know him a little and hearing what he had to say. (I had read his story on his website, which I recommend - the story.) Anyway, maybe 10 -15 minutes later I had a great haircut, which was very much "me," but really a bit more stylish than the regular me, without making people who know me wonder what happened to me. I've gotten haircuts from various barbershops and salons throughout Williamsville, North Buffalo, and the Elmwood area over the past decade. Today was my first time here and it's earned the #1 spot on my list. I don't like making appointments, so being able to walk into the shop and get a haircut right away is a big plus in my book. Gabriel's a good guy and gave an excellent cut - probably the best cut I've gotten in years. He did exactly what I requested and even trimmed/edged my beard as well as shaved the back of my neck. All for $15, it's a steal. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you're looking to try out a new barbershop. P.S. grab a chicken finger sub down the street at Cafe 59 afterwards and you'll be primed for an awesome day. *2018 EDIT* - Can't believe it's been a year and a half since I posted this review, but Gabriel is the only guy I go to and will always be the only guy I go to. Usually go to Crockett and Co. barbershop on Saranac but they wee booked and I needed a haircut bad. I checked out Gabriel's Barbershop and I couldn't be happier. I was on the chair quickly and got the best fade I've ever had. He's a master of his craft and works super fast, honestly fun to watch. No disrespect to Crockett and Co., who have talented workers that give good cuts, but Gabriel is a different level imo- and cheaper. Also he gives good recommendations. As a longtime customer, I was disappointed with my recent order today. I live in an apartment building with a standard call box. Instead of hearing from the Gabriel in person, I was surprised to get a call from my building manager letting me know my haircut was downstairs. Perplexed, I went to get my haircut and was met by a driver quick to point out that my phone number was inaccurate on the receipt. I asked him if it was common to use phone numbers instead of directories and he said it was and that the directory didn't have my name in it anyway. I checked and although he was correct that my phone number in your system had a 761 instead of 716 area code, he was wrong about my number not being in the directory. My husband's in there as well. To add injury to insult, my order was incorrect-- we requested and paid for two additional dipping sauces, but only received one. I don't think the driver should have called the building manager; I don't think he should have pointed out that my phone number was inaccurate (there's a code box, after all); and I think he should have delivered my complete haircut. read more

There is this guy, named Gabriel. I first saw Gabriel back in September. I had just started at Roswell and I remember he was walking down the street smoking a cigarette. He's probably 6 feet tall with jet black hair, trimmed neatly on the sides, and longer on the top. He has a couple tattoos on his arm, and droopy eye lids. He's thin, probably 140ish. On this day he was looking into a window of an abandoned building. It was obvious it was some little shop years ago, but had succumb to the dreariness that has plagued Buffalo since the 60's. The store front glass was caked in dust, and the room on the other side was trashed with scrap wood, garbage bags, broken furniture and other miscellaneous stuff you might find in an abandon building. Gabriel stood there staring in with his hunched shoulders and hands stuffed in his pocket, his cigarette hanging from him mouth. I didn't think much of it this time, and wouldn't either until Mid-October when I realized he was there outside this building every Friday morning before 8am, looking in. I was curious when I started to notice, and made a point of looking for him every Friday. Sure enough, Friday would roll around, and there was Gabriel standing out front, cigarette in mouth looking in. Around Thanksgiving he missed a Friday, I figured he must be home sick or visiting family. Tuesday comes and I notice something is different about the store front. I can't place it until I'm on my way back from work; someone has wiped all the dust off the glass on the inside! I myself slow down to peak inside, and there standing amongst the rubble is Gabriel, hands in his pockets, cigarette hanging from his mouth. Over the next 2 months it became apparent that Gabriel owned this store front now. I watched every morning and afternoon as he transformed the place. Wiped everything down, removed the extra wood and trash bags, put up lights and a big mirror, painted the inside and out had some large boxes delivered, and get a Sign made. One afternoon in February I'm walking by and see the finished product. Across the glass in blue red and white letter is now says, "Gabriel's". And inside I see a single barber chair next to a big mirror. On the opposite wall, there's a handful of chairs, and a small stack of magazines. Gabriel is sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, taking a nap. I'm impressed with what a difference he has made and silently wish him well with his barbershop and continue on my way. Over the next few months I continue to look in when I pass by, everyday he's in there, sitting in his barber chair, or again the wall, or even in the window, reading a book or a magazine. 2-3 times I've seen him cutting someone's hair but usually he's alone, waiting. Signs would pop up in the window will touting things like, " I support Buffalo Police department", and "I love Buffalo public schools", and " my community deserves the best". One in particular caught my eye, its professionally painted to match his sign and his window paint and reads, "This is it, you've found it! Welcome to Gabriel's", it hangs near the window. Last month I decided I would go there to support his business the next time I needed a haircut. I'd seen him start from nothing, and appreciated his efforts.... The last few months things have picked up a little at Gabriel's, but it's largely still waiting to be recognized as the proof of revitalization that it is, in the tired parts of Buffalo.
