Perhaps the perfect dive bar? I'm resetv8ng my right to keep looking, but Gabriel's Gate definitely lived up to the local hype. Great wings, amazing atmosphere, tons of local beers and some great appetizers. Plenty of booths and large tables, this is a great date or meetu0 location. Overall, we had a great time eating lunch on a leisurely Saturday afternoon in the summer. Lots to do and see in Allentown, just expect it to be crazy busy in the evenings. I'm in town on business and wanted to try these famous Buffalo wings. I asked the concierge and a colleague, they both named this place. So after work I decided to pick some up to go. They were okay, but not the best. I ordered 1/2 bbq and 1/2 Cajun and they gave me all bbq. And they were the sauciest bbq wings ever. I mean dripping with sauce. We decided to order some chilli cheese fries( we got everything on the side except the cheese but of course you can pile it all on the fries if you're heart desires! ) Let me tell you, they were delicious and hit the spot! I typically am pretty simple with my fries and just love some nacho cheese or just ketchup, but we tried to spice things up this weekend! Wings were fine. Service was fine, but it was unbelievably slow. I think it took about 45 minutes between the time we ordered our food and the time actually received our wings. Everyone else seemed quite dissatisfied with their service. What a great local find just a walks away from the downtown core. Gabriel's is known for the pub fare among them being their wings!! The ambiance is cozy and dim with lots of fun decor. This is a highly recommended local spot in Allentown. It's located in a historic building and had some good Halloween decor along with the usual array of taxidermy, some adorned with witches hats, on Halloween when we visited. The beer and food was very good, but did seem relatively high priced compared to the specials offered just down the street at the Days Park Tavern. While working in Buffalo, NY I'm doing a sort-of "wing tour" where I ask the locals who has the best wings in the area, having them all give me a different answer then check out all of those places! Lol. Today's visit was to Gabriel's Gate. Let's see how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Fitting in with the area around it, this place looks like a normal house from the outside, but proving otherwise inside. It's an elongated restaurant that stretches pretty far back. It looks like an old house inside, quite cramped, creaky floors, hard wooden benches with tacky/random decorations dot the walls and shelves. Lol. There is a garden area at the very back of the restaurant where you can dine outdoors. Not bad, but you don't come here for the atmosphere... do you? You come for the wings. Service: I can't remember the name of the guy who took care of us, but he was awesome. He was very supportive of me filming and offered a lot of help with anything I needed. I appreciated him. Food: So I was able to try 3 of their sauces. Of course I tried their original "Hot" sauce. Their sauce was better than that of Duff's and The Anchor Bar. I can't tell you why in great detail, it just was. You have to try it out for yourself. I also had their Cajun dry-rub wing and it too was fantastic. The wings were super-crispy, a bit over-cooked, but I did really like them. I also had the chance to try their "Suicide sauce", which fell very short. The heat took so long to build and just wasn't what I was expecting. Still good, definitely hotter than their "Hot", but not what I was expecting. Value: It's kind of a tavern so the food isn't terribly expensive to be honest. Rather cheap to be frank, but just know, wings usually aren't cheap. A full order will run you $24.95 or more which will yield about 20 wings or so. Which, is still a great deal. In conclusion, Gabriel's Gate has the best Buffalo sauce in Buffalo, NY. I'd absolutely make a return visit, but be prepared to wait for a table. This place is super popular. read more

We got the order of 20 wings a did half BBQ and half siracha. We also split the chili cheese fries, which is listed as an appetizer, but good lord, it is A LOT. 2 adults and two children split the food and was more than enough. The portions are ridiculous and you are guaranteed to have left overs, just looking at other peoples' food aside from our own. I have not been here in over a decade so it was time to try it out again! The service was the worst service I've ever had in my life.... The waiter from the first encounter was horrible. Everytime we would be talking or asking for something he would turn around and walk away half way through without acknowledgement. My moms pasta had a hair in it and we asked two of the wait staff to speak to manager and they would not bring one over. We asked for the manager mainly because of the horrible service and the hair just added to it. The waiter ended up taking the pasta dish off the bill- which we didn't touch anyway. After researching a spot to try wings in Buffalo (driving through on a road trip), we decided to go here. It was easy to find parallel parking in the street and walked right in to get seated immediately. I absolutely love the decor in Gabriel's Gate, it's really cool with very interesting details such as taxidermy, copper tile ceiling, and old wooden furniture. The vibe in here is super chill and comfortable. They have an outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seating. My husband ordered medium heat wings and onion rings and I had a salad with mild chicken fingers on it. We were very pleased with the wings- crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, but the sauce was verrrrry mild (better than too hot though). The onion rings were also nice, they have a good onion to batter ratio. The salad on the other hand was all iceberg lettuce with tomato, feta, and onion. Although I admit that it was quite tasty and fresh....again, all iceberg lettuce. So, we were definitely shocked about the bill when it came out and totaled $56. 10 wings for $17, onion rings were $8, and a bowl full of iceberg lettuce with chicken strips was $18. Although we left pretty happy, the prices are a little crazy for what you get. I wasn't expecting to pay almost $70 after tip for a midday lunch stop for average pub food. read more

Was in the Buffalo area and a friend told us everyone talks about Anchor Bar and Duffs, but Gabriel's Gate is the superior wing place in Buffalo. He was not wrong! The wings were quite possibly the best I've ever had - crispy and juicy. We went with the medium level, which was delicious. I was curious to try the suicide sauce, but maybe next time. Lovely outdoor patio in the back, but inside had a ton of character too - it's part of Buffalo's historic Allentown and the building is one of the original Tift Row Homes built in 1864! Asked for a drink menu- none....when we found what looks to be one's the bar tucked away. Sort of short, definitely not the warmest of staff. Wings and tenders took forever. The restaurant itself is very cool, it's an old house that has been transformed into a restaurant but they keep a lot of the integrity of the home. Came to Buffalo for a work trip and knew I had to make some time to get wings! I asked several locals what the best spot in town would be and all of them said Gabriel's Gate. I went in around 5:30-6pm on a Tuesday evening. There were people outside so I figured it would be a wait but upon entering noticed there was availability. Decided to sit at the bar since it was just myself. This is a super casual ambiance. Feels very historical both inside and outside of the restaurant. I ordered a Stella from the bartender who was quick to take my order and decided on a French onion soup and order of chicken wings. I am a huge stickler for crispy wings and *preferably* all flats to which the bartender happily obliged (whew!). Soup was delicious with soft onions, tasty broth and oodles of cheese. The wings tasted great buttttt they weren't as crispy as I would have liked. Regardless the buffalo sauce on them had great flavor. Total bill was around $35 which is a great bang for your bucks. But Would I say these are the BEST wings that I've EVER eaten? Probably not (which is why I'm doing 4 stars) BUT they are good so just don't go in with over the top expectations just because the city is called Buffalo.
