POWERBOOK MEDIC ROCKS!!! Just got my 2009 Macbook laptop back from Powerbook Medic and all I can say is WOW!!! My hard drive died and I didn't want to buy a new Mac right now because the new ones are due out in a few months. I contacted Kyle at PB Medic and through email he explained how their company worked. I had a million questions and I am not a computer savvy person, but Kyle was patient. I decided to replace my dead hard drive with a new Solid State Drive. So I shipped my laptop and a Solid State Drive off to them. Zack, from PB Medic, was the tech-genius assigned to 'breathe life' back into my laptop. He recovered the data from my dead hard drive, installed the new SSD I sent, installed my Operating System and transferred the recovered files back to my new hard drive. All I had to do was turn on my computer and it fired up--and now the laptop is lightening fast. Way faster than it ever was!!! Everything was perfect!!! It only took about a week--very reasonable. And the cost was incredibly reasonable too---under $200. (I bought the SSD (about $200) and sent it to PB Medic) So for under $400, I have a laptop that is faster and runs better than it ever did--even when it was new. I strongly recommend these guys. I ordered a replacement screen for a macbook air, when it arrived the box looked a little beat up, but I figured they had packed it sufficiently and it'd be fine. I installed it and the screen failed to illuminate, upon closer inspection I noticed hairline cracks in the corner. I called customer service, and they told me to just send it back. After sending it back I didn't hear anything for 2 weeks! Finally I called them up and asked about the status. They said that since it was damaged when it arrived, they weren't liable and that I'd have to talk to UPS (the shipper they chose). Now I'm mired in customer service limbo with UPS, and am pretty much out $200. If you order, hope it comes to you in one piece. Otherwise you'd have been better off tossing your money down the toilet. read more

Worst Return Policy EVER, Sent me a DVD Power Drive for my Macbook, and the holes didn't line up to mount, and then charges me a surcharge for a return. Good luck with that business practice! Not long ago I decided to upgrade my 2007 - Mac OS 10.4.11 to Leopard(Yes..finally). Found that I would require to run a snow leopard DVD instead of a online upgrade. But my optical drive went bad a little while ago so decided to replace it myself. Went through some online reviews and placed an order for a optical drive CW-8221-C for $40. I kind of knew going into this that I will be taken for a ride based on the reviews not just about this site but about any site that offered to sell a optical drive. I received the first drive in 6-7 days which was good. When I was about to tear down my macbook thought I will do a quick check on the optical drive. To my surprise it came in with a DVD inside it(prolly a stuck DVD-common for these drives). I didnt want to spend 1-2 hours in installing/troubleshooting this drive by putting it on my laptop so I wanted to get rid of it asap. Most of these drives are salvaged from a old macbook and you don't get a brand new one. Wrote an email explainig this and asked for a test/inspection copy, they apologized and wanted me to return the drive(for which they payed for) so they can ship a replacement upon receiving the old one but never did they speak a single word about their test/inspection process. So it was apparent they dont test/inspect the parts that they ship em out(at least in my case) I did not receive a replacement until 3 weeks after this mess. I checked the new drive it was looking good this time without anything stuck in it and I decided to install it. After the installation tried a couple DVDs but it would keep spitting it out after making some noise and I wanted to give it one last try then it worked. Yes it did. It has been 12 hrs now since installing it and its working just fine and I have upgraded to snow leopard(soon will upgrade to lion). So I am a happy camper now hence the 3 stars. Take away for fellow customers: Be prepared for a ride so you wont be surprised. I would think twice before going to them for any high $ fixes. Fortunately it was just a $40 stake in my case. I had a great experience with Powerbook Medic! When emailing the company for information I was always met with a fast and efficient response from Jake. I sent my late 2012 Macbook Pro to them for a logic board repair figuring it was possible it would not be able to be repaired. To my surprise, Powerbook Medic diagnosed and repaired the logic board in the 5 days I was quoted! This saved me over a $1000 that it would have cost to purchase a new one. Providing payment to an associate named Alex was an awesome experience as well. He was knowledgable about the repair and was super friendly. The company sent my Macbook back vis UPS and it arrived requiring a signature within 2 days. After getting my Macbook back I quickly realized it was no longer accepting a charge. The company was super responsive and recommended some problem solving strategies, none of which worked. Powerbook Medic sent me a free shipping label and fixed the issue under warranty. This was done within a week and cost me nothing. I would absolutely recommend Powerbook Medic! read more

Tragically incompetent customer support. I ordered a Macbook replacement key from them and what they sent me did not match the picture on their website (and didn't fit on my keyboard). They continued to insist that I received the correct product, despite the fact that I sent them photos of the key I received. I even sent them a side by side comparison of the key I received vs. the one listed on their website. However, they refused to send me the correct key or refund me for my purchase. read more

I sent my Macbook Pro 2012 to have the screen and charger port replaced. A list of what happened: They took longer than stated. I called because I was worried -- sending my machine to someone I did not know. The agent was all too happy to bicker with me. I said I really would like to have updates, especially if they are going over deadline. I said my machine was valuable. All he was interested in was bickering. He said my machine was not at all valuable and would I like to know what it's worth? I explained it was extremely valuable to me because it works very well, has had many upgrades, and most importantly, I CANNOT afford to replace it. When I said I was somewhat nervous about sending expensive items to an internet company I don't know, he acted as if he was the prosecuting attorney in a criminal case. "OH! So you ADMIT you sent your machine to us in the mail!!!" I don't know why this excited him so. Admitting such is like admitting the sun rises. Anyway, we bickered for about 30 minutes, at which time I ended the call because I had a seminar to teach. He seemed very happy to go on. He gave me an update on the phone, but did not acknowledge doing so earlier would have been the courteous thing to do, nor did I get any updates thereafter. It still took a few additional days. THEY DID NOT DO THE JOB PROPERLY. The new screen is loose on the bottom and I have to push it back frequently. I contacted them requesting a replacement set be sent out because I was not going to send my computer to them again. I left emails several times and I have had no response. I replaced my last screen because I stepped on it during a very serious crisis. Except for accidents like these, I expect my screen to last a very long time. Dust is collecting underneath this one and I foresee replacing it within the next year. I have tried to talk to them. They ignored me. I am sick and tired of dealing with a brick wall. Probably they perform fine a lot of the time. But they certainly aren't reliable to do so all of the time. read more

I ordered a logic board from them and within 15 minutes I received an email stating that my order had been cancelled. When I called to find out why they told me that my bank had not honored the charge because I told them to ship it to a different address from my billing address. I called up my bank and they told me that it WAS NOT their policy to stop charges from going through because the shipping address was different from the billing. Not only that but the charge DID go through as the money WAS deducted from my account. So the money comes out instantly but now, because of Powerbook medics policy, I have to wait 2-3 days(possibly more) to get the money back so I can try to purchase the part again. This whole mishap will hold me up for a week or more. No other merchant has ever given me a problem about shipping to different addresses. So needless to say, if this is PBM's policy, I will not be trying to do business with them again. This was unacceptable! read more

I dropped my 3-year old Macbook and the screen broke. I looked at taking it to the local Mac store, but it would've cost upwards of $700 with only a couple of months' warranty. I called Powerbook Medic, mailed it through UPS (for free), and they repaired it for about $300 with a full year's warranty (much better than Mac's) It was an incredibly positive experience. I ordered a key replacement for my Macbook, not only was it expensive but it also did not fit my Macbook! The photos they put are not correct! And to return you have to pay for shipping and do not get the full refund even though they are selling the wrong pieces! I sent an Iphone 6 in for repair to the motherboard. It took three days for them to check it in after they received the phone. It took another 4-5 days for them to diagnose the phone after checking it in. After another week or so, they still hadn't done the repairs and when I called I was told it would be another 3-4 days. By the way, these are all "business days". At this point I told them to ship it back to me without repairs. After paying the fee, it took four more days for them to ship because I didn't send them some sort of PayPal transaction ID. Every time you turn around, there is another step you need to take to move your repair forward. All in all, I would say this company has poor communication and should provide a more clear estimate of how long repairs will take up front. If they were to tell people up front it will take at least 2 weeks to even begin the repairs, people would make different decisions. read more

Powerbook Medic sold me a replacement hard drive for my 27" iMac (mid-2010). They are claiming the page on their website listing the hard drive warns customers there may be compatibility issues with their drives. However, there is a drop down menu right below where one can click to see if their computer is compatible or not. My computer was listed. Their answer was to return the drive at my expense and to pay a $15 restocking fee. Also, they used the "you agreed to the terms and conditions" card. Rather than wanting to make their returning customers satisfied, they took the stance "there are more where you came from." I'm here to tell you, though they may have more suckers lining up to buy their products and services, I will not be one of them. If you know what's good for you, take your business elsewhere! I received my 13.3" MacBook Display LCD Screen, used, in a timely manner. The reason i'm giving 2 stars is when reading the description of used quality it was misleading. It stated no major scratches or damage to screen. My screen arrived with pretty significant keyboard wear on the screen that is very noticeable. Other than that the screen works. A great source for hard to find Mac parts

If you are looking to buy some parts, this is a good place to go, but if you are looking to get a computer repaired, STAY FAR AWAY, and save yourself from frustration. I looked on their website and they say: 5-7 Business Day Repair Time for Complete Unit Logic Board Repairs No repair cost if we can't fix your board We utilize state of the art equipment I sent them a 2010 MacBook Pro to repair the logic board, (If you know the logic boards fail on 2010 - 2012 Macbook Pros and they need to replace the logic board or replace the thermal paste on the graphic chips), they received it just fine, sees part of the email they sent me, "Your repair has arrived at our facility. It is currently in line to be diagnosed. Once the initial diagnosis is complete, we will contact you with our findings. " Well a week has gone by and I still haven't heard from them on the status of my laptop, so I sent another email asking what's up, this is their reply "Currently, your machine is still in the diagnosis process. We have been doing everything that we can to get your machine to fail. However, since arriving and being placed in the diagnosis process, no amount of stress we put on the machine will cause it to fail. There has not been an update yet since your machine will not fail for us and is functioning properly. " This is clearly a fabrication because once you turn the machine on and login, within a minute it will automatically shut down and restart. By then I was extremely frustrated at the lie they told, they could have said, hey we're a bit busy and haven't gotten to your machine yet,it will be __ days until we do, but they chose to make it look as if they were doing diagnostic testing on it when I know the machine can't even stay on for a minute, (You just failed the integrity test with me). I just told them to ship it back to me, which they did for a charge of $15.00 and they didn't even keep my original box to ship it back to me in. In total my computer was away for 14 days with no fix at all. So, if you are willing to wait for a computer repair with no communications from them, then go for it and send them your computer and hope they get around to fixing for you. If you need to get your computer fixed in a timely and correctly diagnosed manner, Stay away!!! read more

I bought a mac logic board from them that I returned it because they took a long time to return my calls and emails regarding the part questions They also kept 15% of my money because was part of their policy. Their service is really good, and the charge is reasonable. They were quick with their work, however I had to send an email to check on the status of my computer diagnosis. I also had to call a few days after I gave the OK to work on my computer, because I had not received a response as to when my computer would be ready. I did receive my repaired computer 2 days after I called. Two word review: gross incompetence. On the phone, they are polite and courteous promising to fix the problem I was having with my MacBook Pro. After 3 long running exchanges with them (over 2 months), They finally sent me my MacBook Pro back for the 3rd time on 2-21-12. I booted it up and it all seemed fine. I was most concerned about being able to render out Quicktime video clips, as the computer had a prior tendency to shut down and reboot in the middle of that process. Upon receiving my notebook, I immediately wanted to render out a video clip I'd made for testing purposes. The computer not only shuts down now in the middle of a rendering, there are new screen issues I'd never had previously. I feel at the this point I will likely never have a satisfactory resolution to this situation. My recommendation to anyone needing repair is that they look elsewhere. When I sent my MacBook Pro to them, I packed it with a carrying case and power adapter. They've never sent my carrying case back to me and only this last go around did they include a power adapter. It's disheartening to trust someone with your gear only to have them destroy it in the process. read more

Bad customer service. If you experience any trouble with your order, do not expect a refund or discount. I ordered twice for them. The first time, they were EXTREMELY slow in shipping my order out (order processed on a friday with 3 day priority mail USPS shipping option, they waited until Tuesday to ship and I received my item the following Friday). The second order was on par as far as shipping time. I only ordered from them a second time because they were the only people to offer 2007 apple parts for my laptop. Further to my original review below, after posting it, I was contacted by the owner of Powerbook Medic who agreed to refund my payment. He took immediate action to do so on PayPal. So, with the help of Yelp, I can now say that I am satisfied by the resolution of my claim. Thanks to Bradley for the quick response. I bought a logic board for my 2006 MacBook Pro from Powerbook Medic. Since I don't live anywhere near where these people are located, I had to pay to have the local authorized Apple service center install it. It didn't work. It didn't even boot up enough to determine why it didn't work. So, I informed Powerbook Medic and they issued an RMA (return authorization). Unfortunately, I took longer than I should have to actually send it back for the refund. I then received and email saying that they weren't going to refund the money because it was over 60 days, even though I had received the RMA within the 60 days. They also did not offer to send me a replacement item as their warranty terms describe and, in fact, did not offer to assist me in any way. So, I am out shipping both ways, they have their logic board back and my money. Bottom line; I won't do business with them again and I recommend that no one else does either. read more

I order parts every once in a while for Macs and iPhones -- I have used both PowerbookMedic and iFixit, but I have more experience with iFixit especially for new parts. In the past 6 months I have ordered three parts from PowerbookMedic -- the first was an iMac fan for which they sent me the wrong part. Communication was good on this and they resolved the mistake and sent me a new part -- I would not write a bad review on this. The second part was a battery which was fine, but the third part was a macbook pro keyboard that I ordered, ended up not needing and sent back (per their refund policy) in a similar condition to how I received it without doing much to it than a quick glance over. They told me that it had signs of water damage and use and they told me it was not "one of their keyboards". Best 2 out of 3, would say I have had better luck and consistency buying used parts off of eBay. read more
