And while there were several really great looking restaurants in the area, it was even too much effort to order delivery.

One of the highlights of my stay was witnessing the Armed Forces Parade right outside the hotel -- as a proud retired U.S. Army Veteran, that made the experience especially meaningful. Jason offered such a warm welcome from the moment I arrived, and I really appreciated the thoughtful check-in text and complimentary drink at check-in. Those touches made the stay feel personal and welcoming. The large shower and comfy bed are the bomb! I also loved the skylight and the cool patio area -- both added so much charm and comfort to the experience. I only wish I had more time to check out the taproom. My one suggestion would be adding an additional interior lock. As a single woman traveler, the extra security would provide additional peace of mind, especially with the combination lock setup. It's wonderful to see the care and vision that went into restoring this historic building. The future elevator addition will be a fantastic improvement as well. Nice work all around, and I sincerely wish you continued success!

We also had dinner upon our arrival and enjoyed such amazing service and hospitality. Great food, attentive staff. Even our dog was welcome in the lobby. Truly a unique experience. Went in today to try the pie, and wasn't disappointed at all!…read more Took a swing in the dark on the topping selection, and was extremely impressed. Elk sausage, mushrooms, green chile, ooey gooey cheese, and oh my, my tastebuds came alive! The crust had just the right amount of crisp on the bottom, while the sauce had a delicious complimentary exchange with the ingredients. I ate way more than what I'd normally eat for lunch! Then to top that off, I was offered hot honey to finish off the crust that was absolutely fantabulous on it's own. This was the perfect way to complete an amazing pie! It was so good, that we ate the leftovers for dinner, and we were just as pleased, minus the great company that the restaurant offers with their local vibe and interest in your experience. Super cool folks! I also, out of curiosity, ordered a single slice with my go-to favorite... hamburger, pineapple, jalapeno, and extra cheese. It was tantalizing! On a hot Spring day, you can't go wrong with a cool drink and an amazing pie at the new Las Animas Pizza!

Secondly, when you go here, you need to ask for Rob to be your server. We came in with a party of 14 and not one of us lacked a drink, a napkin, or anything during the entire time. Rob was our server and he was also making the drinks and still had time to not only take our picture but make sure everyone was in it and there wasn't a glare! He did this all with the best smile and attitude. We were all just amazed at how awesome he was! We rarely encounter servers as wonderful as Rob! I would give him 10 stars if I could!

The restaurant wasn't fooling around when it comes to garlic. You could smell the enticing aroma of it as soon as you walk through the door. The ambience was quaint. It is connected to a hotel which I'd check out if I were traveling through here again. We arrived at the restaurant around 530pm. The happy hour menu had both drinks and some dinner items on it. My companion ordered the Spaghetti & Meatballs from the happy hour menu. We were told the portion is the same as from the regular menu. It was $14. ($18 on regular menu.) It was a generous portion with three large meatballs. I opted for the Picatta Pasta at $12 and added four shrimp for an extra $6. They gave me five so I'm not sure if the chef made a mistake or was just feeling generous. I'll say the latter! The dish had tomatoes, capers, lemon, and white wine. The only thing I'd add to my taste would be pine nuts! We both totally enjoyed our meals including the bread! I forced myself to leave a little for lunch the next day and it was even better then! Comments I heard from around the dinner were equally enthusiastic about their meals, especially those who ordered the mussels. We're in town for a week and I don't usually go back to the same restaurant twice when I'm visiting a new location but my companion and I are definitely going back again before we leave. It was a Fri and a bit of busy night when we were there but our server Jillian did a great job and was super nice.

Switched to happy hour Montepulciano wine. Much better choice. The wife had the muscles, lots with good garlic bread. Also the Caesar salad with anchovies. She loved both. I had the chicken marsala. A little different from what I have had before but good. Would like to try a tomato dish but they are closed the next couple of days. Sorry no photos. PS. The Tiramisu was 5 stars!!! Very good.
