We were greeted like old friends by the business owner (a woman, too: go girl Boss!) and continued to enjoy our entire experience. The owner was accommodating and just as much as a positive vibe as her delightful little brewery. While enjoying their carefully curated and delightful food (of which we ordered the lentil soup and Kung Poa beef), my friend mused, "how do people get to that level of cool?" We all agreed. Just passing through on our summer road trip, we stopped in Walsenberg for fuel and gruel; and spotted the Crafty Canary Brewery. After 8,000+ miles from Los Angeles to Key West, and back via Mesa Verde in Colorado, we'd seen a thing or two, and I'd visited at least a few breweries from San Antonio, Tx, to Isla Morada, FL to Memphis, TN... to name a few. And while I would have enjoyed sitting down here for a few rounds, and sampling their locally brewed beers and what were reported to be some incredible hand craft cocktails, using local hooch and ingredients, traveling with three kids, and a big trailer means you don't have "one for the road." But I noted the cool indoor and outdoor seating areas, the beers on tap, and a big pine bar that beckoned me to belly up. Alas... I went in to see if they had anything to go in 6 pack form (growlers only, I learned later from the website), but for what it's worth, I was one of those rare times I got to visit a watering hole and not wet my whistle... and celebrate the adventure of it all! We'll be back through this way on our next Durango to Omaha adventure, and considering this spot is as good as any to park the truck for the night where the 160 meets I-25.... I have been driving through and around Walsenburg for many years - out of Dallas & Denver. Watching this town come alive has been a real joy, considering it's probably one of the best place in the world to catch a sunrise or a sunset. The Crafty Canary Brewery is precisely titled. And it is in line with how neat the entire area really is. It's right off main street in downtown Walsenburg. They have an excellent selection of craft beers. The cocktails are what you would find in haunts in Seattle, Denver, Portland etc. There are beautiful murals all through town- local artists hang on the walls. Walsenburg is an old mining town with an incredible lore and the Crafty Canary carries this spirit- even in the name and logo. It took me a second, but for the sharper ones it'll make sense right away. They serve food- they have live music and an open mic night. I was with some family friends and the games had our kids all occupied rather than using their phones- For travelers passing through this is a very good taste of the heart of this Colorado town. read more

After 10 hours on the road, we checked in to our Airbnb and looked for a place to have a drink. Just a block away we found the Crafty Canary Brewery. We were two of four people at first but as the evening went on it filled up with locals. Ended up staying for several hours having a great time as everyone made us feel so welcome. We enjoyed Black Bear Brown Ale and Ska Hazy IPA craft beers, as well as Whiskey Smash and Supernova cocktails which included ingredients made in-house and were delicious. We also ordered the Miner's Carte plate which was a perfect size for two to snack on. Aubrey, the owner, was incredibly friendly and even gave us some of her secrets for pickling beets and making Lavender syrup that I hope to try at home. We wish them incredible success and will always stop by when we pass through Walsenberg. read more

They claim on social media to be a great restaurant. Apparently it's all about the alcohol. If you're looking for a variety of food choices, look elsewhere. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday evening. The server was pleasant and explained all the alcohol offerings, before presenting us with a tiny food menu. It contained exactly FOUR entree items. And TWO of them were vegan. Nothing on the menu looked appealing, so we left without ordering. We don't see any reason to return. read more

Strongly recommended for tourists passing through! My family and I were passing through town on the way back from the Dunes National Park. We loved this place. Everything about it. Well-kept establishment where Aubrey provided friendly and wonderful customer service. Most importantly, the in-house brews paired fittingly with the food options across the street available here for dining. This brewery gives me all the motivation I need to come back down to this neck of the woods to hike Mt. Blanca. Crafty Canary will be the light at the end of the tunnel waiting for me when I return. Had the pleasure of checking out Crafty Canary this past Sunday. They have been in business for nine months and seem to be doing well. At the time, they only had three of their drafts available. We tried the IPA as well as the Blond. Both were tasty. I also had a Tequila based drink that was fantastic! Our bartender, Aubrey was an absolute joy! Knowledgeable on the area and great conversation all around. The atmosphere is nice. Good colors and elements give the interior a warm welcoming feeling. Lots of rustic and live edge pieces of wood. Bathrooms were very clean. The space is sort of divided up in two areas. It's kiddo friendly and can accommodate larger a group too. They have a few small snacks but you can bring your own food, which is always convenient. Check out this brewery with the adorable logo! read more

Between Trinidad and Pueblo, there aren't many places for food. We lucked out with The Crafty Canary Brewery. They don't have their own food, but they have menus from the town restaurants. The restaurants deliver to their door. We ordered a chicken salad on lettuce, and a blu cheese bacon burger from a restaurant across the street. I think it was called The Daily Perk. It was very good and quickly delivered. The beer was good and the company of the batendress was even better. We sat at the bar. Very nicely decorated. They also have bar drinks.
