Went in today to try the pie, and wasn't disappointed at all! Took a swing in the dark on the topping selection, and was extremely impressed. Elk sausage, mushrooms, green chile, ooey gooey cheese, and oh my, my tastebuds came alive! The crust had just the right amount of crisp on the bottom, while the sauce had a delicious complimentary exchange with the ingredients. I ate way more than what I'd normally eat for lunch! Then to top that off, I was offered hot honey to finish off the crust that was absolutely fantabulous on it's own. This was the perfect way to complete an amazing pie! It was so good, that we ate the leftovers for dinner, and we were just as pleased, minus the great company that the restaurant offers with their local vibe and interest in your experience. Super cool folks! I also, out of curiosity, ordered a single slice with my go-to favorite... hamburger, pineapple, jalapeno, and extra cheese. It was tantalizing! We stopped in after a long drive for Durango and we were pleasantly surprised by this nice little pizza place in a historic spot. The salad and dressing was fresh and tasty. Pizzas were generously sized with a unique crispy crunch to the crust. We didn't get too adventurous with our selection, the sausage and pepperoni pizza did not disappoint. The staff were efficient, friendly and kept things moving even though it was a bustling Monday night. All the tables were full - and there was a steady stream of to-go orders. This place is adorable! It's so low key and relaxed. We misunderstood the sign and thought we had missed the window for breakfast but the server assured us we had not. She was so nice and made sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. This place is another example of "places we should split an entree". Portions are very generous. The elotes appetizer was delicious, and I loved the addition of diced jalapeño peppers. I ordered the huevos rancheros and my husband ordered the hungry man burrito and we both barely finished half our plates. The Owner and Executive Chef and Bartender and local historian were all one guy , who skillfully entertained the whole room of tables with only one assistant food runner fella . Loved the historical yet hip decor and vibe . The companion had a smash burger that was Bomb and he topped the fries with Green Chili . That "side"alone could have been a praiseworthy meal . However, I am Not sorry that I ordered two "appetizers" for my meal . Driving from NM to Denver, we were hungry and stopped in Trinidad, Co. OMG what an adorable town with many shops and eateries. Being a fan of the Animas River, we stopped to check out the grill's menu and found it had option that we liked. It's small and cozy and there is a plethora of old 1900's photos all over the place that speak to the history of the town. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable. I ordered a wonderful salad with blackened mahi mahi. My friend got tacos. We both thought our food was well portioned and well seasoned. They have rest room facilities and a really nice staff. On July 8, 2025, we had to stop in Trinidad to have an emergency repair to the trailer we were pulling. Hot, tired, hungry and would be 2 hours for the repairs. Dropped the trailer and made our way into town. I wanted something local, no need for fast food (it is no longer as cheap or as fast as it used to be plus oftentimes, I find it much more tasteless -- is it lack of seasonings, herbs, ... it's just a lot of fiber). Where to eat? I saw the listing on YELP for Las Animas - local, fresh, with a nice variety of items on the menu. The restaurant was easy to find in downtown Trinidad and there was parking right nearby. We walked over and were immediately greeted and seated. Friendly waitress/server, there was a nice collection of local historical memorabilia on the walls, and the building is really old (retro antique) and looked to be in refurbishment phase. Ordered drinks and lunch. Stinny (the waitress/server) told us that the food is cooked to order, and they were down a couple people in the kitchen. Due to these factors the food prep would take longer. We understood, and it was fine as we had plenty of time, it was good to relax and read about the pictures on the wall ... yet I'm a reader and should have brought a book. Bathroom break -- clean bathrooms (there's 2 of them). Food arrived, a big chicken sandwich on brioche for me and hamburger on sourdough for the husband. He had fries (which were homemade) and I'd asked for a side salad instead of fries (there was no upcharge!). The side salad was HUGE; I ended up bringing 1/2 my sandwich home with me as the salad was so good per fresh ingredients. That leftover 1/2 of the sandwich was included in my lunch the next day. Husband and I enjoyed the meal, the ambiance, and the location. Yeah, we'd do it again when in the area. Note: bring a book, gaze outside (big windows, old downtown area, lots of people moving around), and for goodness's sake take time to visit (get your head out of the electronics ... unless it's a book on kindle). read more

I have been craving Wave's rancheros for a long time, so on a drive between Texas and Colorado, we stopped in Trinidad, Colorado and looked for a place that might have Quavo's and Cheryl's. It turned out to be this one, and I'll have to tell you... I have a rather experienced pallet, and this is the best way rancheros I've ever tasted in my entire life. The service was wonderful, beautiful young waitress, and absolutely delicious food! Atmosphere is very homey and worn in, very comfortable and appetizing! Once again, yelp reviews didn't disappoint in leading us to this little gem in Trinidad. We were on the road from Texas to Colorado and were looking for something to eat- our first stop was a different place- which you can check out that review but ultimately Yelp led us here. We were quickly greeted upon walking in and our server was super friendly. Ordered our drinks- including sweet teas for the kids- which they quickly accommodated with adding some simple syrup to their iced tea. It's not complicated but I don't expect it and I appreciate it 1000% when restaurants do this for us. The food was great! I had the CBA which was fresh and the avocado was perfect! The teen had the miner burger cooked medium which he said was great and the sauce was a great addition. My husband had the bearcat burger no green chilies- cooked rare- and he said was really good as well. The hand-cut fries were great and I upgraded to the truffle fries which were *chef's kiss* amazing and well worth the up charge. The littles had chicken strips w/fries and mac and cheese which was super cheesy and a huge portion. Many old pictures of Trinidad and the area grace the walls. There's an info sheet telling you what you are seeing. I had birria tacos, they were exceptional. My mother is gluten-sensitive, and Kam, our server, made sure everything was good for mom. She had a great ham sandwich on a gluten-free bun. I think house-cut french fries are the best, and these were no exception. I want to get truffle fries, brussels sprouts, and pork belly, lol. Trinidad Colorado is one of the cutest towns! So many nice people that you run into on the street. And then you have this restaurant. Upon walking in, there's a moderate amount of seating. They appear to have a bar barista station and beverages that you can purchase for the road. Upon entering, the waitress asked us to pick our own table. She came by with menus and my husband ordered a cheeseburger with french fries. I had the cod sandwich with fries Everything was really good. My husband had to add salt to his burger and I had to add salt to my cod sandwich but once we did, it really hit the spot. The french fries are fresh cut french fries. Those are my favorites! They have the cute bottles of ketchup that you can squirt all over your fries. So that was fun! Prices are reasonable about 13 to $18 a plate. Our ticket came out to around $40. The waitress was adequate. We ordered. She brought our food. Had to call her over for a refill and she accommodated. It was no frill service. No smiles or asking if we had questions. The restaurant is nice and clean. Unfortunately I got the steak and eggs. I was hoping for medium rare and sunny side up. The eggs were maybe half way done with a heavy amount of clear runny egg white undone. The steak although the center was nicely done to medium was extremely dry and burnt on the outside. So overwhelmingly burnt I only had 2-3 bites. My partner burrito also came out luke warm. Our service was ok. Our server took our orders and didn't come around until we were ready for the check. Typically pic batches for gluten free bread was expected. When we got the bill it was an additional $2.50 per sandwich for gluten free bread. There was also an additional 4% service charge for using a credit card - neither of which was explained to us in advance. For three sandwiches with fries and water, we ended up paying $65. What a great place right in Trinidad's historic downtown. Kamela was our waitress, and she was so friendly and welcoming. She even provided us (and the other diners) with eclipse glasses so we could enjoy the natural phenomenon of the day. The food was great. I ordered a barbecue chicken salad that was excellent. Tons of chicken, nicely seasoned. My husband got a cheeseburger that was ladled with delicious green chili. He ate every bite. Hello All, I have been in the area for five years. I own a resort in Stonwall Colorado. The restaurants are, the great restaurants, are few and far between in Trinidad. This restaurant is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to period! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour, a great place to meet friends etc.!
