This place is in the more touristy part of Nice. Nevertheless, we wanted to try it. Advertised as a very historical Brasserie we were keen on trying the more traditional food items. Doing my part to make Yelp relevant in Nice. Based on the reviews, Gaglio consistently delivers, just like it did well before COVID. We had the zucchini beignet, mussels and the daube beef stew with ravioli. Both dishes were great but the daube was fire! We had the price fixe Nicoise menu which was €34.50. It was 3 courses. My companion started with roasted peppers with olive oil, I had the fish soup both of which were delicious! We both had the sea bass with rice which was perfectly prepared and wonderful. Finally we finished with the chocolate mousse which was ample and fantastically rich, thick and just the right amount of chocolaty goodness. I would be remiss if I didn't mention our waiter who seemed to speak 3 languages; French (of course), English, and Italian. He was informative, helpful with suggestions, and he had a good sense of humor. The airbnb host sent us here. For 21 Euro, which is the equivalent of $23, you get a starter, an entree (huge in portion, as it turned out), and a dessert. You can also just order a single dish here and there, but seeing that we don't come to Nice for Nicoise dishes often, we did the prix fixe menu. Nicoise fish stew to start. It's fishy and tomato based, unlike the Norwegian fish stew, which is cream based. The main courses were lamb with mash or fish served on a bed of nicoise olive and tomato vegetable tapenade, very tasty. The fish was quite tender and fresh. The third and final course is chocolate tart, fruit salad or ice cream. It's a nice surprise because the upstairs is very white table linen and downstairs more casual like a tea room. The dishes are very good though I don't believe that it needs not to be a three euro sign next to it, it's quite affordable, and a good value if you ask me. The lamb is very flavorful and huge in size. The killer is the hamburger, it's not just a hamburger patty, it's actually chopped up beef, made into a patty and cooked up fresh, served medium rare. You just don't see that anywhere in the States any more, unless you are taken to Peter Luger, that's the last time I've had a burger that was this fresh, until now. The drinks are of course very good. I had a Nicoise rose for 4 Euro, or $4.36 a glass. It's unheard of in America, one can easily triple that price to order a glass of rose in San Francisco, such is the state of being. The notion of French cuisine is expensive is an outdated one. As I've learned it over and over again, food in France is good, and price is medium. An average meal is often better than most French food I've had in San Francisco, though that level of comparison is simply not fair. The service is very good in Nice in general. The server we had spoke good English and he was attentive and extremely hardworking. I know there are many other restaurants on Yelp that garnishes great reviews in Nice, but when in Rome, or in this case, when in Nice, get Nicoise cuisine instead. This is one such spot. Charming brasserie in Nice. We chose the prix fixe Nicois menu for 21.50 euros and were served complimentary crostini with an amazing tapenade. This was followed by our starters- grilled pepper with salad and fish stew with more crostini. The fish stew had a wonderful umami flavor- could not stop eating it and sopped up every ounce with any bread available. The main dishes of lemon sea bream and gnocchi with beef stew were equally delicious. The lemon cream highlighted the flavors of the perfectly cooked fish. The gnocchi beef stew was hearty and a true comfort food. The desserts: coffee and pistachio ice cream and pear tarte were a simple, but delicious end to a great meal. One of the best meals I've had in France. Service was also excellent. Staff was friendly, attentive, and English friendly. read more

Fine frugal dining? Oui! Prix fixe menu for 22 euros that includes an appetizer, soup, salad, entrée and dessert all for a set price per person?? Can't get better value than that! Our reservation was for 7pm on a Tuesday night. They gave us any seating we wanted and we choose the outside patio for that picturesque French ambiance. My wife and I shared each other's prix fixe items to try as many things possible. The fish stock soup and pate to spread on toasted baguette was one of the best things I've had in.my.entire life! Might have to include that in my last prix fixe meal on death row. Wife got the sea bream fillet with lemon cream and I got beef gnocchi. The portions were outrageously generous. I wish I had a fridge and microwave at the hotel so that I can take it home. The sea bream was seared and seasoned to perfection. The fish was moist and not dry. The beef gnocchi was cooked al dente with a bite to it and the beef sauce was rich and well "beefy". It was good but it was just too much and too heavy at the end. The dessert we got was light and fresh which was perfect after a heavy meal. We got ice cream and a pear tart. Fresh ingredients make for the perfect dessert. The tart was like an apple pie but with pear instead and it worked well. The coffee ice cream had bits of chocolate coffee beans for a nice crunch in each spoonful of helping. Dropped by here because it was conveniently located close to our airbnb. That said, the restaurant is right near the path along which the rail runs, so lots of people pass by this location. It seemed this place was also a slightly nicer restaurant, so it made sense that there were quite a few people. The evening was chilly, but they had heat lamps here. I wound up ordering the steak tartare, which ended up being huge- as in, two people could have eaten it. I thought the dish was only okay, because for some reason they put way too many pickles into the beef. I did try the bouliabasse (butchering the name rn but i don't want to pretend like I know how to spell the word) which was excellent. Even though I didn't love my dish, the ambiance and service was great here (very charming location), the pricing was reasonable, and I really liked everyone else's dish that I tried- so I'm willing to overlook my dish and give this place a good rating. read more

Nice atmosphere in a good location, lots of outdoor seating available. I sat inside, which had a kind of chic, upscale feel to it. The waitstaff were friendly and nice. I got the galette - artichoke salad on socca (which is like a chickpea crepe) - which was awesome. For my main dish I chose the Duo de Pâte, which was just OK. The truffle linguine was quite good but the penne with foie gras was boring - it only had a couple of tiny pieces of foie gras. For dessert I had the tiramisu which was really delicious. It's a great place to go if you're looking for a break from the Old Nice restaurants but it's still pretty close to that area. read more

Wonderful atmosphere, value for money and an exciting place to watch the world go by ... definitely worth a visit

The food was good and seemed to be authentic nicoise cuisine but unfortunately the service did not match. Our waitress was overwhelmed and we waited a while to put in our order, then get our drinks, and between courses. I did enjoy my niciose salad and beef tartar but my husbands stuffed pepper appetizer was dry and kind of bland. Overall I think the price was a little high for the a la carte options but overall the food was of good quality and taste. read more

I spent a week in Nice and this was by far my favorite restaurant in Nice. I came here on New Year's Day with my family and we sat upstairs. The view is spectacular if you sit towards the front on the restaurant. I had the monkfish and it was so flavorful and the sauce was creamy. It was fabulous. The lamb was a little dry so it could have used more sauce. The John Dory was great as well. The tiramisu was good but I've had better. The lemon tart was quite lemony and bitter - good if you like that taste. The cheesecake was good as well. read more

Avoid this place if you are travelling with kids. We visited Gaglio with 3 toddlers and ordered them kid's menus(12€). The main course for kids was boiled pasta, dry minced beef and some lettuce. Nothing more, no gravy, no basil, no oil etc. Adults would not ever eat a dish like this. Why are they making food like this to children? After we politely expressed our disappointment to the staff, we were treated like air for the rest of our visit. A total disaster. read more

Lovely outdoor dining. The black olive tapenade was great (I don't usually like black olives) and the Caipirinha was one of the best I've had. Lots of tasty muddled lemons and crunchy sugar pieces at the bottom. Nice place to relax and enjoy an evening out read more

This is my favourite restaurant in Nice. The quality of the food is great, the presentation pleasant and the atmosphere lovely. It's refreshing to find good quality service especially in a touristic city as Nice, where the service industry really is lacking. The price of the menu is pretty good considering the flavours you receive. A wide variety of dishes are available, from risottos to pasta to duck to veal to scallops and roast lamb; though not too wide keeping their quality of food up. The menu changes seasonally it seems. Definitely go sit upstairs in their cosy corner for two! It has the most amazing comfortable arm chair perfect for your date. It's only a pity for the location that it faces the construction site of the bus station. Hopefully by the next year that view will be replaced by a more appealing park. read more
