I LOVE GAIA FLOW! I've tried a handful of local yoga studios over the years, and this is one of the few that genuinely stands out. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels welcoming, calm, and thoughtful. The instructors are awesome and do a great job balancing guidance with encouragement. Every class feels thoughtfully paced, and I always leave feeling better mentally and physically than when I arrived. The studio itself is super clean which is a huge deal for me - I mean Hello! we are literally on the up close and personal with freshly cleaned floors and mats. Phew. I highly recommend Gaia Flow Yoga (had the Sound Bath ) because something I appreciate the most when going anywhere is how welcomed I feel. I have a hard time feeling like I'm okay much of anywhere in public. After reading some of the reviews from Gaia Flow, I would definitely disagree with any reviews that would give this studio anything less than 5 stars. I have been coming to Gaia since 2010. It helped me through my divorce and helped me center myself and my entire life. I have circulation and blood sugar issues, among other things! It has become almost a family to me. I know Andres and Chrystal very well, and I would say that they definitely have boundaries for the teacher/student relationship of a class. That's part of the reason that I go to their studio. It is a love-based practice; however, they want you to challenge yourself at times because that's part of your practice. Yes, you want to be on your mat and practicing at your pace. They mention proper etiquette on their website of what to expect when you go to the studios and what they expect of you as a participant. Another important facet of your yoga practice is your mudra and how you want the energy of your practice to go. From the other reviews I've read that have put the owners in a bad light or said that they have done anything out of the ordinary is just false. I would suggest reading the full website and read Chrystal's book. Chrystal has been through a lot of challenges, and what makes her a good example of how you practice is that she is not afraid to be honest with you. Our culture rejects that type of feedback for the most part and turns it into a complaint. I go to Gentle Waves classes, and I love Gaia Flow Yoga. It has truly transformed my life. read more

I used to hate yoga. No, seriously, I thought it was the worst thing I'd ever done. That was the case for years, until I tried Gaia. I'm still very new (only have done two classes so far), but I've had absolutely wonderful experiences both times. As a new yogi with ZERO flexibility, the classes can be intimidating. Luckily, the website points you in the direction of where to start and what's good for beginners. My boyfriend and I (highly recommend doing yoga as a date activity) attended a Late Gentle Waves class with Katina Johns. She was so welcoming! She immediately took away the pressure of doing well and allowed me to focus on the bigger picture and to just be present in the practice. The Friday Sound Bath Meditation class with Chrystal Rae was also a wonderful experience. It was my first time ever meditating. I highly recommend trying it out! I love all of the instructors at Gaia Flow Yoga in Plano! But Christopher, who regularly teaches the Saturday 6pm Desert class, is one of my favorites. I started yoga late in life one year ago with crazy-tight muscles, looking for a solution for my pains that medical doctors were unable to help me cure. I am a life-long racquet sports player (collegiate tennis and squash but now just tennis plus pickleball!) and was a ticking time bomb for catastrophic injury from playing one-sides sports without tending to my whole body. Four useless injections in my spine, too much pain for PT, and two spine surgeons poised to operate with no clear plan based on my X-rays nor my MRIs, and a chiropractor who provided mild help but nothing significant, left me feeling hopeless. After hating yoga every time I had tried it in the past decade, my amazing partner (who does not do yoga yet believed it could help me!) gave me a Christmas gift of one month of unlimited classes at Gaia Flow in Plano. Gaia Flow Yoga changed my life! Since starting yoga, I have noticed dramatic reductions in my worst pains (lower back, glutes/piriformis, hamstrings, sciatic nerve, calves, all the way down to my foot) while ALSO noticed much improved flexibility in my tightest of muscles. And Christopher is a yogi with his own personal story of how he became a yoga instructor, who teaches with caring compassion for all of his students. Take one of his classes and find out for yourself! GF instructors all teach with 3 different options for class members to choose their own. In addition, the last class of the day is usually taught a bit more slowly with longer holds, which is great for me to get deeper stretches, and Christopher's class allows for this. As a new beginner who was unable to sit cross-legged on the floor without tipping over, taking even beginner level classes was a bit intimidating because there are many advanced and super flexible members able to get into poses that were beyond my imagination. I quickly learned to stop comparing myself to others but instead to watch and learn proper form from the instructor, or someone I've learned knows proper form. Most importantly, I've learned to focus on the poses that I know my body needs most. I may choose to return to a pose to deepen a stretch while the rest of the class is moving on to something more difficult that does not serve my needs that day. And no one minds. You can truly feel accepted for who you are and what you need each and every time you are there. And in Christopher's classes, there is no question of understanding and acceptance. Last night I chose his class after not going in about 3 weeks! But my body (and cc bill with my very motivating monthly charge for unlimited classes!) called me back to Gaia Flow. And my body is thanking me for it today! And thank you Christopher! I expect to be back on track for about 3 classes per week again! Yoga AND meditation!! read more

The success of any class experience is highly dependent on the instructor that you have. Lisa taught my first class here. She did a pretty good job and she was very nice! I did find it a bit distracting that she ended every statement/instruction with an upward inflection, making everything sound like a question. Just a personal preference I suppose. I thought that the atmosphere and facilities were both very nice. I used to go to the Addison location. LOVED IT... but it was a little too far away and the room was too small. This Plano facility has a much larger class space, larger bathrooms and includes showers. So overall, a step up! I haven't been back to yoga in over a year since my knee injuries so I was eager and anxious to get back. I will say that I still love the peppermint lotion neck massage at the end of class. A very nice touch! I have only been to one class at this location so far but I'm hopeful that the other instructors are really good as well. My only criticism is that it would have been nice if the instructors were more intentional about correcting students' form. Again, I'll have to go back to see if this was just an off day or see how the other instructors teach. For any new yogis, don't be afraid to try this out. I'm pretty terrible at yoga but I've always liked Gaia Flow of all the classes I've tried. And the Gentle Waves beginners class is challenging but can easily be modified to be more challenging as you improve. Namaste! read more

They have several classes with a distinct approach which is great and allows you to switch it up (cardio one day, strength focused another). Instructors are amazing. Unfortunately, I will not be returning here. I am dismayed by the way Julie Weiss treats people who are outsiders. When I told Julie I was a classpass user, she instantly treated me awfully. I always bring my mat, but I forgot to bring my mat one time. She charged me $5 to use a mat even though other studios allow free mat rental for the first time or $2 mat rental. I had a few one-dollar bills in my wallet, but I was short of $5. I tried to use my credit card, but the credit card swiping machine at the studio didn't work, which was not my fault. Yoga class was starting soon, so I asked if I could get more money from a nearby ATM after class, but she wouldn't let me wait until after class to pay for the mat rental. She barred me from entering the yoga classroom even though I had already paid for the yoga class. She then became very mean--she made me feel like I was a poor person of color who wanted to freeload off the studio, which was not true at all. I had to run to a Chase ATM nearby before class began, and then pay her. She seemed frustrated with me the whole time. After being treated this way, I realized that this was not a kind and welcoming place, and all Julie cares about is $$$$$$$. I did not feel like a human being who was worthy of respect. This is distressing because I do like many of the other teachers at Gaia Yoga, such as Katina, Rachel, and Cristina, who have been very friendly and welcoming. Even though I will not be returning, I think this yoga studio is mostly good---I would just avoid Julie! I love yoga and meditation because of the way it feels for the body, and also the spiritual connection to oneself and others. However, I learned the important lesson that it is a major red flag if people focus way more on profiting off of spirituality and meditation practices rather than being genuinely caring and inclusive to communities and marginalized peoples. read more

This new yoga studio is almost the dream yoga studio. I love its bright walls, odor-free locker room, and ample yoga studio. The instructors are very friendly and helpful - this helps when you are new to yoga and apprehensive about your first practice. From my understanding, all their classes are a variation of hot yoga. I love their membership options, i.e. affordable. After a number of months, your monthly membership decreases. A few semi-drawbacks (for me): 1. They always start with abs, because a solid core is needed to practice yoga effectively. In theory, this is great. In practice, my core gets sore after we finish that it's too weak to do regular poses properly. 2. Class options are a bit limited. Yes, they offer classes throughout the day - but they don't have a good variety. For example, Ocean is only on Tuesdays. 3. They take the time to talk to you about your day. A lot of people love this, but I am an introvert. I go to yoga to relax and zen out. I'm sorry to say that I'd rather get out of class early and do my own personal reflection. 4. Bright lights in the yoga studio. I think this is just my own personal thing, but I prefer the lights a bit dim. It makes it tougher to see other people so you focus more on yourself. 5. Loud exotic music is played throughout your practice. It's meant to energize and get you moving, but it makes it tough to hear the instructions and makes me lose my focus. 6. Their movements are like boot camp. The teacher would tell us how to do something and give us variations. Then she lets us do the movements at our own pace. This makes me think of a boot camp class where you have a goal of a certain number of repetitions that you have to hit before you can move on. I prefer a more fluid whole-class-move-at-the-same-time type of yoga. In the end, this is a fantastic yoga studio for those that like the gym-like repetition of working out. Came in for the afternoon gentle waves class. The facility is great and much larger than the Addison location. There were showers and cubbies to put your stuff in during class. The instructor was great! Too bad she was just a substitute for the class, this isn't her home studio. The class was challenging enough, I just recently got back into yoga after awhile. It's hot yoga, but the heat isn't at all compared to what you might experience at bikram or sunstone. I signed up for this class thru class pass and I'll definitely be back. read more

Several different class types are available, with a rotating schedule making it possible for students to attend classes whether they be basic, intermediate, or advanced. Instructors are knowledgable, kind, and are genuinely invested in their students. The studio is clean and well maintained, and provides showers (with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and q-tips), as well as complimentary mat and block rental. This was my first time doing yoga (and hot yoga) in a formal class setting, and I absolutely loved it! I'm a complete amateur so I felt a bit nervous going to a yoga studio, but they made me feel very comfortable - the online schedule shows which classes are suitable for beginners, and class instructors show students lots of different options for diff. poses that you can choose based on your skill level. My first class was the 12 PM Gentle Wave class with Ayako, which I've been told is the ideal beginner class. The class space itself is very relaxing and quite big, and there are yoga mats / foam blocks at the side of the room provided for students. Since I was a total beginner, Ayako corrected a few of my poses and moves but never made me feel embarrassed or anything like that - I felt very welcome! They're also having a $15 special for the first week unlimited classes, which I found very convenient since most places I've heard only have monthly commitments. Overall - great experience :) If you are new to yoga, don't be nervous! read more

As soon as I walked in, I could tell it was going to be a great place to practice yoga. I was greeted warmly and they quickly explained how it worked -- getting me set up with a towel and mats. This is by far the best yoga studio I have practiced at. I did hot yoga for two years at several studios in Idaho and Southern California which I really enjoyed but, after exercising at Gaia flow for the last 4 months I am getting more visible muscle tone and a new type of slender figure that I never had before. The results from the yoga practices here are incredible! I highly recommend Gaia flow. The instructors share an important message at the beginning of each class that helps make me feel good. They remind us to exhale and breathe and they make careful adjustments to make sure we are doing each pose correctly. They help those with injuries and they pay special attention to each individual's needs. When I leave Gaia flow yoga class I feel calm, content and strong. If you are new to yoga I recommend visiting Gaia and inquiring about their 1-week deal. Yoga has changed my mentality and improved the quality of my life and now thanks to the instructors at Gaiaflow yoga - I am getting stronger, too! read more

Honestly, the yoga class itself was fine. The teacher was great and the class was challenging. My issue is with the way the studio is set up. My first visit to this studio will be my last. Many of the studios I've been to have open cubbies to store your personal items. This is not unusual, however, most of the time the cubbies are in the same room where you are working out (e.g., The Mat, Pranaa Ayurveda, City Surf, BodyBar). A couple of studios have cubbies in the lobby or the hallway outside of the room (e.g., Uptown Yoga, Yoga Factory) but, in these cases, the front doors are locked while class is in session and these are smaller studios that do not have people just milling around the lobby while you're in class. At Gaia Flow the cubbies are inside a private locker room. Not only that but the cubbies are behind a wall which would allow plenty of time for someone to be alerted that another person has entered the locker room. I should've known better than to leave my purse in a cubby in a closed private room. Against my better judgement I left my purse, my sweater and my shoes. I very carefully placed everything so that I would be able to tell if my items were moved. Seems stupid now because it prevented absolutely nothing! When I came back to get my purse after class my shoes that were previously placed on top of my purse were now shoved all the way down behind my purse, which would not even be possible with the way my purse was placed. Someone would have physically had to touch my shoes to get them into the place where I found them. When I got home some cash was missing but honestly it's my fault for not listening to my instincts. I left my purse in an open cubby in a locker room with other women getting dressed and milling around. I completely dismissed that little inner voice that was telling me what a bad idea it was to leave my entire identity open to strangers. I just want to provide a warning to other women to leave their purses in their cars or not bring them at all. At the very least I wish this studio would provide a detailed description of the facility that would let studio goers know that their personal items will be in an area where people can have free access to rifle through their personal belongings without being interrupted or caught. If you do bring your purse in, take your phone and your wallet out of your purse and bring it into the studio with you. I will never go to this studio again. I wish I had known ahead of time that their open cubbies were in a closed locker room. I also wish I had listened to my intuition. Lesson learned! I've been checking my bank account every day to make sure there hasn't been any identity theft. Now where do I go to yelp review myself?
