The restaurant was beautiful, and the table was clean . The service of this restaurant was down right poor. Me and my date ordered the seafood fried rice. The order was wrong They missed a main ingredient. When we brought this to their attention, they said they would fix it and after waiting about 15 minutes. It still wasn't ready. The manager gave us an 8% discount. Considering the amount of time we waited I felt it would've been appropriate to comp the whole thing. Overall, the sushi was decent but I wish the rice had some more rice vinegar. The service was friendly but a bit slow, even on a Monday night. The gyoza was alright, but the fried scallops and the takoyaki were pretty good. At least the filling-to-rice ratio was good since many AYCE sushi places typically have more rice than filling. This is my favorite sushi location I've found in the area (including KC) so far. The rolls are really delicious, flavorful, and taste fresh.

After reading the reviews, I kind of knew what I was getting into but wanted to try a new place. We arrived around 8 PM and we were second in line. Sushi bar was empty and several tables look like they were getting ready to clear out, so we decided to wait. Unfortunately, the host was not very communicative, I remain unsure if the sushi bar was empty on purpose or if it was first come first serve, and that would've been an option for us. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes before we had our table and once we were seated, we had pretty good service. The sushi tasted really good. Came in and it wasn't busy at all, we were sat but the server seemed a little off, my order was brought out wrong, and they openly got frustrated with the chef and seemed pretty rude but got it corrected. I got the sushi and it didn't taste horrible, one piece was quite "fishy" but I didn't think much of it. Now my stomach aches a bit and I have reflux in my throat. I read some people got sick and I pray it doesn't happen to me. But if so I will be updating this review. Not the best spot, but not horrible. Best sushi in Lawrence hands down! I have lived here a little over 3 years and have tried all the local sushi spots -- none of which I was ever satisfied with quality/freshness wise. When this place opened, I was excited to try it out in hopes of finding a new sushi spot that I didn't have to drive 30 mins into KC for. I am head over heels for this place!!! My friend and I went to Gaia this past evening for dinner and enjoyed the "All You Can Eat" sushi. We placed three orders and sampled several rolls as well as countless pieces of nigiri. While the service was not as fast as one might prefer, it was still quick enough for us to be kept fed and enjoy the atmosphere. Besides, they have been open for only one week by this point and as such are still ironing out the wrinkles. Speed of service will increase as they get their systems worked out. We spent time after the dinner speaking with the waitress, manager, and owner letting them know what we thought of our experience and that we will be back again soon, stating clearly that this is now our go-to spot for sushi. Food amazing. Service terrible. We went a few weeks ago and waited for over an hour and a half for our food. They simply forgot us. We sat and watched everyone around us come and go. Went tonight because we desperately want to support local restaurant. Nearly an hour before close and they told us we couldn't be seated because it was too close to closing time. Strike 2. I can't base my review off the atmosphere or food because both were outstanding. If you're looking for a delicious Cali roll or teriyaki chicken this is your place. I am unfortunately disappointed in our service when ordering our dessert roll (btw it was amazing, he had recommended it and I was not disappointed) but we (3 of us) wanted one singular roll for all of us to share. We waited for awhile and were greated with our server bringing us 3 full rolls. We corrected his mistake but were given the pity me "don't worry I'll just pay for it with my tips" I am being as understanding as possible but we made it very clear we wanted one roll for to share between the 3 of us. I have been a server before and would never try to get a guest to pity me or feel bad for my mistakes. A simple "I'll get this taken care of" or "my apologies" will do.
