Why aren't you here yet? This restaurant is ran by a small family who truly bust their butts to provide amazing food and service. It's a husband and wife up front, someone in the back and their children sitting at a booth being good. We go almost every Friday and truly value the family atmosphere. The food is always great! Still a date night favorite! We always get the bento boxes (shrimp tempura and chicken katsu). Both are delicious and it really fills us up - especially for $14 each at dinner time. Went in during the first hour of opening, got the lunch specials. The water tastes like it came straight out of cedar lake. Fish for the sushi was slimy and warm, Teriyaki chicken was rubbery and chewy, rice was old, soup was instant, and the salad dressing. What should have been a ginger dressing became Bigmac sauce with the incorporation of miracle whip; this on a child's size handful of white lettuce with 4 carrots straws. The 2 meals that were ordered were could only be described as completely inedible. Service was rushed to the point the food came out at different times and the check came 5-10 mins into the meal. I would like to say that I have been coming to Niji since I was very young! I've loved this place forever! I believe it is a family run business and the staff is always kind and efficient. The decor and atmosphere is also quite nice. The sushi is good. No complaints. Compared to my last two reviews, I would say it is nice. Sushi House still has the best tuna, Ika for the salmon. I would say Niji's hibachi style selections are AMAZING! I ended up with a fried roll this time, and I thought it held its crunch very well. I ordered the three roll lunch: salmon roll, tuna roll, spicy salmon roll--also salmon roe nigiri and a yellow tail and scallion hand roll. The salmon roe came as sashimi instead, on a cucumber slice. The roe was also... old. There were several eggs that were completely hardened, and should not have been used. If you looked, it was obvious that the middle portion of the roe was shadowed and hardened. I didn't think that the spicy salmon would have crunchies in it, ive not seen that before, but I should have asked. I do have a gluten sensitivity so I was on the toilet soon after my meal, sadly. Wishing we read more of the reviews before coming here. Our experience was very similar to all of the other poor reviews. Tasteless rolls with no flavor or sauces as described on the menu. Two of our rolls that included spicy crab was only dry, shredded, tasteless crab. The Kani salad was also tasteless and only had a couple pieces of cucumber. Service was terrible. Our waitress was short with us and inattentive. She did not get our order correct and forgot to bring us our side of fried rice. We had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to get anyone to come check on us while waiting for a box. We were the only customers in there at this point. The ambiance and decor was nice here. I visited on a Saturday afternoon to grab sushi with a friend. The ambience was very dull and quiet since it wasn't that busy. As far as prices go, the sushi is cheaper in comparison to other places. I ordered the pick two sushi lunch special which came with a small bowl of miso soup, a small salad, and two rolls of your choice. The miso soup was yummy and so was the salad. I enjoyed the dressing they used; sweet and tasty. The sushi itself was good. I preferred the Eel Avocado roll since I love eating eel, but both rolls were good. Service on the other hand, was a bit iffy. The server rushed my friend and I into ordering despite the restaurant not being busy at all, which is OK. But throughout her service, she had a small attitude, probably thinking that we wouldn't tip her since we were students. Contrary to that popular belief, we do tip generously... treat us with more respect and your tip will reflect that! The server finally gave us a smile when she saw us place some bills on the table. I went to Niji Sushi with my partner for the first time after hearing people say it is one of their favorite local places. It was not very busy when we arrived, and we were seated quickly. After that, the service was very slow. We ordered water, and did not get any refills during our entire meal. Our waiter was not attentive. When he brought out our rolls, he did not remember which roll was which. He brought us soy sauce trays, but was never around to bring us actual soy sauce. The restaurant was not busy, and things were quiet. The food was pretty good. The stuffed Jalapenos were delicious, as was my cup of miso soup. The rolls were good, though I would've enjoyed a little more flavor in the breading and bread crumbs. The wasabi paste was very dry, making it a pain to use it, so I passed on the wasabi. I'm guessing it was just an off night or a new server. Hopefully the next time I visit will be different. Still a good sushi place to grab some rolls and hang out with friends. read more

For our mains, we ordered a bento box each; mine a salmon teriyaki and my husband's a chicken teriyaki. This was great value as we received salad, miso, sushi, and gyoza along with our proteins. This was our first visit and we brought all of the kids for lunch on their way out of town after Thanksgiving. We were pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. It's located in a strip mall where the old DMV used to be and made us really hesitant to give it a try. I'm so glad we got over ourselves and went in! The decor is very welcoming and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We tried several rolls and hubby had the sushi lunch with spicy tuna roll. Their sense of presentation on all of our items was incredible. It really made for a fun lunch! We enjoyed the Ridgeview roll, the Crazy Tuna (strong wasabi flavor, but I liked it), the Out of Control roll (pretty sweet), and Diamond Roll. I also loved that they have a TV that displays the various rolls they have. Although they have good descriptions on the menu, seeing the roll prior to ordering is nice, especially for hesitant newbies to the sushi world. Another huge plus is that they deliver sushi. In a market that is sandwich, pizza, and Chinese as your only delivery options, this is a nice alternative! They are pretty strict with the 5 mile delivery zone which makes me getting delivery a no at 5.1 miles. Stopped here for lunch today to check it out, alerted by a 4.5 composite Yelp review (sample of 18 diners). I prefer it to the Sake Lounge in every aspect (ambiance, food, and service) , previously the only other purveyor of sushi in Olathe, since Sushi House's Olathe endeavor was unceremoniously (and unfortunately, for sushi lovers) run out of town from neglect by a populous that seems to generally prefer quantity to quality on the restaurant front (see "Golden Corral", the most successful eatery in town). My Niji Sushi experience, in a nutshell: - sat at the sushi bar, and ordered up the sushi and sashimi lunch special, an apparent bargain at 11.95 for miso soup, salad, 5 nigiri sushi pieces, 5 sashimi pieces, and a california roll. - sushi chef #1 of 2 presented me with a complimentary appetizer, which could loosely be called an amuse-bouche by virtue of its whimsy. On a bed of shredded daikon, three pringles potato chis were topped with a pinch of seaweed salad and a pinch of crab (with a c, not a k) to keep me busy while the salad and soup were rustled up. Sounds odd, and largely enjoyable on the palate. A lovely gesture :) - soup and salad arrived, a respectable cup o miso and a bowl of very freshly spun iceberg with a thick, creamy dressing dolluped on top, scented with a hint of sesame. I would have preferred the salad be lightly tossed in the dressing, rather than having to consume it in such a way to evenly distribute the dressing between bite, a trifling concern in the grand scheme of the experience. - sashimi (3 white tuna and 2 salmon) was chunky, fresh, and delish, excellent. - sushi (1 yellowtail, one tuna (maguro red), one white tuna, one salmon, and one butterflied shrimp. The fish was sliced too thin, but presented beautifully and quite tasty. - california roll was heavy on the avacado, and made with krab (feaux crab), and missing the cucumber necessary to give it the proper crunch and overall freshness quotient. Also, regrettably, it was not sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds or roe. Absent ideal crunch, moisture was delivered by the generous blob o avacado. - sushi rice was bland (light on vinegar), too cold, and a bit on the dry side- about a 7 of possible 10 - service was cordial, attentive, and spot-on low key - atmosphere was intimate/clean/comfy, appropriate for the target market Niji Sushi, I shall return. I love you just the way you are, delivering a fine value and solid overall suburban sushi experience, and you are just a few little tweaks away from being the first five star Olathe Sushi joint since Sushi House (sigh). read more

This place is amazing! I do live close so there's the convenience. But the food and service is on point. I've ate more expensive sushi bars and this holds a candle to most. I have been craving sushi for a couple weeks and while I was on a business trip I decided to try a new sushi place. So glad I picked this! I had some dumplings, and a Boston roll, spicy crab roll, and a chefs special buffalo roll. They were amazing. Although the buffalo was a little difficult for me cause I was hoping for a seared salmon and it was like a purée the texture was slightly off but I always try a new roll every time I get sushi.
