The Carmelcorn Shop is an old-fashioned confectionery shop that opened in Easton, Pennsylvania in…read more1931. It was founded by husband and wife John & Ruth Doherty. In addition to their signature housemade carmelcorn, the shop also specializes in popcorn, fresh roasted nuts, fudge, chocolates, gummies and old-fashioned hard candies. Richard Baskin purchased the shop from the Dohertys in 1985. He in turn sold the shop to husband and wife Tony and Sia Bassil in 1996 and they have owned it ever since. Sia had originally been hired to work behind the counter for the Dohertys in 1977, when she was just 14. She continued to work at the shop, on and off, for several years until she bought it with her husband. My family and I visited The Carmelcorn Shop this past summer while we were visiting relatives in the area. We were exploring Downtown Easton and noticed the storefront. It looked like a really cool place and we were shocked when we saw the sign that read "Since 1931". The shop is pretty small, but it has all sorts of novelty candies. The carmelcorn smelled great! We ended up getting some as well as some old-fashioned candies for our two boys. It's nice to know that there are still old-fashioned candy shops like this still in existence. If you're visiting Downtown Easton, then we recommend that you take a stop at the Carmelcorn Shop for a trip down memory lane.

She was there until the late 50's, had her five kids, and returned through the 70's and 80's. I always remember my Mom smelling like roasted nuts and carmelcorn when she came home from work. I always make sure I stop in when I return to Easton to reminisce with Sia and of course pick up some Almond Butter Crunch.

All 6 of us had something different and every person said theirs was incredible. The waffle bowls are great as well (said teenager). But the ice cream is so smooth and creamy. And it's a neat little shop as well. Nothing special and a little tight by the doors with big crowds but nice and clean and in a unique building.

For example, I spent about $10 on a couple scoops of ice cream and didn't receive a greeting, a smile, or even a "thank you." The young man serving me wore gloves and had beautifully painted fingernails, but the experience felt unwelcoming. He also seemed bored and disengaged, as if he would rather have been somewhere else. Perhaps that was true. I also want to note that saying "have a good day" is not a substitute for saying "thank you." Customers should feel appreciated for their business, not just processed through a transaction. I don't blame the individual employee as much as management. A simple hello when customers walk in and a genuine thank you after payment would go a long way toward enhancing the overall experience. With just a little attention to customer service, this place could be outstanding.

All baking is done on the premises and most importantly it's woman owned! The service was spectacular. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and we chatted about everything under the sun. She was very personable and polite. Her bakery items was tasty and moist. Just the way I like it. She also allowed me to try her new ricotta cookie, which was a wildcard for me. Went to my surprise. I enjoyed it. I also appreciate it. The Biscoff biscuit cookie. The crunch was amazing. She ships nationwide so I will be sending my family out out of town a few boxes in the near future overall, I give my experience a 10/10 and I will absolutely make this might go to bakery.

I called in advance to make sure they reserved 2 for me to take back to Brooklyn. Great find although I wanted to say hello to the owner Eileen, who was very gracious on my last visit. I was sad she had already left for the day. We came later in the evening so I understand. The best ingredients and everything is made with love. We also brought back the lemon lavender blueberry scones and the Fruit Filled Coffee Cake. They do custom orders and everything we have tried has been awesome. If I lived out here I'd probably come by no less than once a week. I highly recommend them, and if you a fan of chocolate and peanut butter you MUST try the decadent chocolate brownies!
