I finally got dental insurance, so I was actually excited to go to the dentist for once lol. I called Gainesville Family Dentistry because I thought part of an old filling had fallen out from a few years ago. They were very honest and let me know it was actually something else and not my tooth, which I really appreciated. I ended up having a few visits for other things, including a cleaning, and every single time the staff was very nice and welcoming. I had Dr. Habib, who was absolutely phenomenal. He's very kind, efficient, and clearly knows his stuff, which made me feel really comfortable. The office itself is clean, modern, and has state-of-the-art equipment. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a plus. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the billing. A few times my insurance got mixed up, and while I was there, I noticed other patients coming in with billing concerns as well. To be fair, that could be more on the insurance side than the office, but it did cause some inconvenience. Overall, I would definitely recommend them and will continue going back! read more

The hygienist was gentle but thorough, and I got a couple of useful pointers without being lectured about my flossing habits. I wanted to point out one of their dental hygienists, Asheley. She does an excellent job. She's not just friendly but she uses a water jet to clean your teeth/gums which is gentle and thorough. It makes for a much more pleasant visit. She's also a nice conversationalist. read more

Couldn't even keep my appointment straight. I made this appointment because they are in network. I made the appointment in January 2026 and they confirmed via text and email. Today, April 10, 2026, they couldn't even find the appointment, which they had canceled out of hand. I'm not sure why, since none of their staff could explain. These guys just seemed sketchy. I adore my previous dentist though not in my insurance network so I just went ahead and made an appointment with her. Guess you get what you pay for, huh? I'm so disappointed! I came to this practice because I had excruciating pain in a tooth. I was told I needed a root canal and I never questioned that. I have had cleanings and x rays there and though they are very expensive I like to stay with the same providers. It was upsetting that they kept "forgetting" I have to take antibiotics because I have had two full hip replacements and need to avoid infection. I always had to remind them and they would give them to me day of. The area of my root canal still hurts 4 years later although they "fix" it at every visit?! The last straw was when I went in for a scheduled appointment and was told because I didn't "confirm" on the text message it was automatically cancelled. ??? Wow - I have never even had a dental issue as an adult. I will be seeking new practice. read more

NEVER GO HERE. To start off they are crazy expensive and most of the employees are extremely young and inexperienced looking. But that's not the problem, after my first visit I decided not to return but they took my x-rays and said they have recommendations for an oral surgeon, I've been calling for over a week now trying to get the number for the oral surgeon, I've left 3 messages, calling at different times everyday. Worst experience EVER!!. New patient first visit. Just needed a cleaning. Waited over 2 months for an appointment. Over 10 years bi-annual cleanings with another local dentist. No issues. After 2 1/2 hours of getting jerked around Dr. Habib informed me he did not have time for a cleaning and for me to reschedule. STAY AWAY !! Worst ran business I have encountered in a very long time. Don't believe it when they say they have emergency appointments. I've been going to this dentist for several years and today I called because I've got a sharp, shooting pain in a crown that Dr. Billingsley placed and the "emergency" appointment they are giving me is next week Wednesday! I told them that I have not been able to eat or sleep very well and that is their answer. I do not know what they consider an emergency, but don't waste your time on this office if you want a dentist who actually cares about you and wants to help when needed. Just had an extraction today at the new location. First of all the waiting room is much bigger which is very appreciated. The equipment quality has improved too. The assistant for the extraction was the star of the show in my eyes. Lisa was so kind and sweet, she was very funny, and helped me through some of the more painful parts by telling me to breathe. Waited 8 months for an appointment here and it was canceled 2 days before the appointment. They could not get me another appointment until July 2024. Needed a cleaning desperately and now am scrambling to find an appointment somewhere. If only zero stars was an option. For the second time since I've been a client, they have changed my appointment WITHOUT CALLING, EMAILING, LEAVING A VOICEMAIL, NOTHING. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL. The world and personal schedules do not evolve around dentist appointments. The only reason I knew my appointment was changed to an EARLIER date was because I received an email to confirm my appointment. I have two emails to confirm. One for Apr 2, one for Apr 4, my original appointment, that mind you was MADE SIX MONTHS IN ADVANCE. Odd. So I told my supervisor I need to change my requested time off (NOT AN EASY THING TO DO WHEN YOU WORK IN HEALTH CARE). I show up today, Apr 2, and am told I WAS TAKEN OFF THE SCHEDULE AND THEYRE NOT SURE WHY. But they can get me in at the end of the month, ANOTHER DAY TO TRY AND REQUEST PTO. Again, this is the SECOND TIME THEY HAVE CHANGED MY APPOINTMENT AND DID NOT NOTIFY ME. And then have the AUDACITY to take me off the schedule. Find a better dentist. One who actually values their patient's time and is more professional and ORGANIZED when it comes to scheduling. read more

I recently went to Gainesville Family Dentistry to take care of some serious dental issues. I needed wisdom teeth pulled, two crowns created, and cavities filled. Yikes!! I know. I put this off way too long, partly due to lack of dental insurance. I was at their mercy when I showed up, and in walks Dr. Parry. He's a great dentist. He's really thorough in his work. He's a good listener too. He is meticulous in his work, so that means you will get great dental work done on your teeth. Now my teeth look and feel great!! And I intend to keep them that way. Like the previous reviewer, I came in with major dental issues (in my 10 year old daughter's mouth). Dr. Parry was fantastic & Denise, the hygienist was sweet & thorough. I also had a cleaning, as did my 14 year old daughter. The front desk staff is always smiling & friendly, always professional. I appreciate this most of all. Dr. Parry is no longer there, but the two other dentists in the office are equally as nice & thorough. I know, my daughters have been there more than half a dozen times in the last year... It took me about a decade to find a dentist I really like in Gainesville. Like many people, I have had some bad experiences and am so happy to find this place. I love my hygienist and I usually see Dr. Blanco, who is amazing, but she is on maternity leave. I saw Dr. Billingsley today and he was also great. We've been patients with GFD for six years, and have generally been very satisfied with their work - thorough, gentle, personable. Last February, however, we were excited to sign up for Aetna dental discounts because we saw GFD was one of their clients. The discounts were substantial! Today, however, when my husband went for a filling, the bill was for the undiscounted amount, although (when we booked the appointment) we had agreed to the Aetna rate. It turns out that, some time in the past three weeks, GFD withdrew from the discount program without telling us. This wouldn't be so irritating if they had told us before embarking on the $200 procedure. I overheard an employee telling another patient that they were "swamped," were short staffed and had to book new patients as far as a year out. Guess they don't need to accept discounts any more. Guess they may not need our business, either. :-( read more

Told me I needed 2 fillings from the laser cavity detection test even though there was no evidence on the x-ray. I saw another dentist who said my teeth were fine from the x-ray and didn't trust the laser cavity detection test. Plus, kept me waiting for over an hour in the lobby. To Leah R's review, why should we have to haggle with a dentist? That seems sketchy. read more

I'm new in town, and had a loose crown. I knew it might mean an extraction, and I was right. Gainesville Family Dentistry is a block from my house, so I decided to call. They got me in the same day, and I had the tooth extracted two days later. The service was great. Everyone there is very kind and friendly, the dental assistant Kayla was very sweet and personable, and Dr. Jan Garcia is young and talented, very nice and with a gentle touch. He is particularly skilled in the use of Novocain, folks...no pain from the needle and no feeling whatsoever once the Novocain took effect. Ten days later, I'm healing nicely. I've found my dentist! I really have to laugh, though...after 40+ years in Miami, I had to come to Gainesville to find a Cuban dentist! Seriously, though - I highly recommend Dr. Garcia and the friendly staff at GFD. GFD is absolutely fantastic. I went in after changing insurance for a new patient exam, where I first met Chance, who gave me an amazing first impression, and an amazing dental cleaning experience. He was gentle, and was very persistent about making sure I was comfortable. The receptionists knew my name by my second visit, and they are always so pleasant. When Dr. Billingsley came in to perform my fillings, he was very thorough about explaining everything to me. And I cannot explain his skills with a needle! I made a point to let him know that I had never received a more comfortable oral injection, ever before. I didn't even know it was coming, I didn't feel a thing! He and his assistants are very personable and friendly, and love to chat. The whole team has been so great during each of my visits. I have to give it to them. I've been coming to GFD now since late December, and they always did great service. If they don't make you a priority by any means, the staff will do a great job of making it up for it. I came in first for a pulpectomy, though I really needed a root canal. Dr. Garcia decided to get me out of pain and just proceed with the root canal, for a extremely reduced price! I cannot express how thorough and friendly he and the dental hygienists are. Finding a dentist is tough. This practice is professional in every way. The receptionist was super pleasant, my hygienist was informative and reviewed every detail with me before it happened. The receptionist came in half way and sat down to go through expected charges, which I thought was great. She's probably more than a receptionist, I just don't know her title. Dr. Blanco was really good and thorough...and like everyone else, told me exactly what was going to happen and my options. They were all very in tune to giving me options. If you haven't been to a dentist in a while, make an appointment and get moving on your dental health. read more

The receptionist was awesome! She was chatty and helpful. The appointment however was rough. My dental hygienist hardly spoke to me, other than a few grunts. What he did say, I didn't understand. I have never minded dentist appointments, but this guy tore me up. There were the 16 x-rays, in which the bite plate cut my gums to bits, the pictures, which had the hygienist retracting my mouth and lips to inhuman levels of stretchiness and thus pain, and the cleaning where he stabbed me repeatedly. However, the most uncomfortable part was all of the drowning time in which the hygienist wouldn't suction all of the water he was spraying at me. He told me to stop gargling, but drowning would've been a more proper term. I was choking on all of the fluid. Also, he stuck a 3x6 inch mirror in my mouth and kept shoving it to the back of my throat for the pictures. Gag me much! I felt like a Guantanamo Bay detainee. The dentist dropped in momentarily, but wasn't really interested in answering any questions or doing much at all. Not a good day at the office! read more

I came in with no appointment and intense pains. Dr. B. performed my root canal and did an amazing job. Walking out of their office, I felt 100% and I am in no pain at all. The entire staff is so sweet and caring! The assistant talked me through every step and made me feel as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. Let the buyer beware! I went into G'ville Family Dentistry - long story short they said I had $1300 of things that needed to be done. Didn't feel good about thier assessment because I get regular checkups every 6 months. So went to another dentist here in town who's been in business over 20 years. I walked out with a bill for $275. A $1000 cheaper! Preventative care - I think not. Rip off more like it. read more

The dental hygienist was overzealous with the cleaning to the point where the wire that held my front teeth together (bonded retainer) broke off 3 weeks after the visit. Additionally the hygienist kept recommending all kinds of additional work/tests and a new crown. Again, aggressive cleaning near the crown created problems a few months after the routine visit. I have had no issues with this tooth since I had the crown over 15 years ago until after this visit! I will not return to this office because I believe that their objective is to create work for the practice rather than treat only where a genuine problem exists. Additionally, their initial estimate for the proposed work was way off (on the high side); upon enquiry, they produced a second estimate that was closer to the coverage I have. I was completely disappointed with this dental practice and will not recommend it to anyone. read more

My original review was filtered for some reason along with every other negative review that has been written about Gainesville Family Dentistry, so I decided to edit my review and see if it sticks. The dentist I saw here told me I had a lot of cavities, so many that I couldn't believe it and decided to find another dentist. After seeing a different dentist almost every single cavity somehow vanished. There are other people that have had similar experiences, but Yelp has filtered all of their reviews leaving only the good ones behind. To put this in context of the 9 reviews written only three have escaped the filter, all of which happen to be five star reviews. Anyway, I would recommend finding a different dentist. read more

I went to Gainesville Family Dentistry yesterday as a new patient. I came in ready with my new patient forms and only waited a few minutes before being called in. My hygienist, Angie, was great. She was very pleasant and kind. The front office staff was really pleasant as well. I personally don't like going to the dentist but this was easily the best experience I've had. I have not found a more caring dentist location in Gainesville. My visits to the office has been nothing short of helpful, and people oriented (they focus on my needs).
