Wife and I had to cancel cleanings because of a family emergency. When I called to cancel and tried to reschedule, I was told nothing was available for 7 to 8 months. When I asked about being called if there was a cancellation, I was told they didn't do that. I told them we would look elsewhere. We found another dentist and are happy. 2 months later, on a Sunday, we got a nasty note saying we were over due for health care, when I spoke with someone in the office today, she advised me there was no record of the text. When asked again, she suggested it was part of their automated system. My spouse is a retired dental hygiene instructor and I am retired corporate management. The only reason it's 2 stars is because, if you're lucky you get a hygienist that does a really good Job. When you make an appointment, you don't choose the dentist. So, for example, I've never had the same dentist twice. Either the dentist is no longer there, isn't working that day, or whatever the excuse of the day is. Every single appointment has been with a different dentist. Front office is flat out rude; but that type of rude that's done with a smile. Huge "bless your heart" vibes. They also like to play games about insurance, saying that they accept your insurance but then, miraculously, when paying they no longer accept it. Different people get charged different amounts for the same procedures. For example 3 adults in my family all had x-rays, fluoride, and cleaning. Charges ranged from 200 - 450. All of us had the same amount of time, and the itemized receipts (other than the costs) were the same. That was the final straw for us. Even if you were happy with your work, when you leave you're left with the impression of the office being greedy, game players (with your money), and of course... bless your heart. read more

They are not in net-work for any insurance. What's that tell you? No insurance recommends their patients go there? Great place great dentist, my dentist was very nice Valentina Ayala, she was very nice put me at ease, found out she loves sweet potatoes. I'm very happy with her and all the staff at millhopper family dentistry, they were honest upfront and saw me right away, I got two fillings x-rays an exam and tooth cleaning for $850. Which is not bad. Other dentists had quoted me a lot more, I'm very happy with my fillings and she spent a lot of time on my fillings, they were molars and she had to remove old amalgam fillings. I'll come here every 6 months for my teeth cleanings, my wife also loves millhopper dentistry, they have a great attitude and are always friendly. A+++. The dentist was very nice and really took the time to explain the health of each tooth on the x-ray. The wait was long when I went for my three o'clock appointment but the next day it was much shorter, maybe ten minutes. I got my teeth cleaned, multiple x-rays and the my wisdom tooth removal. I recommend this practice to others and will be sending my husband to this dentist soon. read more

If you are looking for a well educated dentist for your child, beware. I have spent three weeks going back and forth with this dentist office. The front desk is very uneducated on what kind of care is provided there and have lost paperwork to only say it wasn't lost. We were told pricing and when first office visit took place they said the cost that was givin was per visit $250 even with insurance. I was told this office was shady but I experienced it first hand. I went to this place a while ago- I had only just heard of Yelp recently. There is nothing I can complain about with the service: the dentist was professional and made me feel comfortable, the hygienist was talkative but not obnoxious, they were all friendly and courteous and there was free Keurig coffee and tea in the waiting room. My negative point is this: when I called and asked them if they accepted my insurance, the receptionist said yes. When I was in the waiting room, I confirmed it with them again, and they took my insurance card and information. However, when it came time to pay the bill, we had to pay the entire thing because they in fact do NOT take my insurance. Very disappointing. I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

After months of back molar pain, I came in anticipating the worst due to not having insurance. However, this clinic was super accommodating and amazingly priced compared to other clinics in the area! Highly recommend for anyone without insurance or who are struggling with finding a reasonable price for what you're looking for. I've been very pleased with the care I've received. I have a LOT of dental anxiety and everyone there has done everything possible to help me feel calm and relaxed. The prices are comparable to other dentists in the area, but dental work isn't cheap. I have insurance but they let me know upfront they were out of nework. I've never experienced anything "shady" with the front office staff. Indeed, they've been letting me pay off a crown for 6 months now with no threat of collections, etc. I just needed to make a payment each month. All in all I highly recommend. They're kind, they do good work, and I rarely have trouble getting an appointment quickly. The late hours are great! read more

I chose this Dental office because of their AWESOME HOURS! I don't have to schedule an hour out of my workday just to go get a cleaning. I do not have dental insurance, so I'm very wary of how much everything is going to cost me out of pocket. Plus I have not had much luck with dentists because 2 have told me that I needed root canals in order to get 2 crowns put on. Luckily after getting a second opinion I did not need root canals before getting crowns placed. I came into Millhopper Family Dentistry with my xrays from another dentist, they were about a year and 3 months old. It turns out that the xrays I brought in weren't high-quality enough to be able to see between my teeth, so Millhopper took new xrays at no charge! I scheduled my next visit for 6 months after and when I came in for that I had the same dental hygienist who remembered everything about me from 6 months before...amazing! She even asked how my wedding planning was going. I love Millhopper Family Dentistry because they are personable, and really care about you. read more

The secretary seemed very nice but they refused to see my 7 years daughter who was in alot of pain. I realize they have a no call no show policy but in our case liberty dental insurance made the appt and failed to notify me that we even had it. There are no other dentist anywhere around and I even call raising cane with liberty to make them call them to apologize for their mistake and the dentist would not make an exception. I think it's a sad day when a dentist makes a baby suffer for something that an insurance company did. I would even be more understanding if it was an adult but we're talking about a child in pain. It sadden me to report this because I don't no whether they're even a good dentist but their practices seem harsh and unjustice.for any caregiver whether a dentist or dr that can't make exception for gross oversights especially for children is sad. My child is still in pain and I have no where to go. Lesson here is don't mis an appointment even if you don't know you have it because there are no second chances in the eye for any reason. read more

I'm confused by all the poor reviews here. I had a wonderful experience with MFD. I had two cavities in between my two front teeth (worst place possible), and I was ashamed about not having visited the dentist in six years (mix of phobia/lack of insurance). I received no judgement or rudeness whatsoever. All of the staff were so friendly and the initial cleaning was completely painless & sadism-free (unlike previous hygienists I've had). The technology they had was so new, too! I kept telling them that everything they had made me feel like I was in the future. All of their facilities were so clean and smelled great and the chair areas had lovely views of the surrounding trees. When I got my cavities filled, the dentist went over every step of the process with me and did an amazing job. No one can tell that there was any work at all done in that all-important area of my two front teeth! When I switched employers, I had to leave MFD and it felt awful. They are truly fantastic! After my wife paid off account, well within billing timeframe......this predatory dental group sent her account for collection, added a $500.00 charge to her account, and had a sleazebag lawyer write her a collection letter. I tried Millhopper Family Dentistry after being a Tioga Dental patient for many years. I kept having a recurring breakage of a bond that Tioga just couldn't seem to repair without an expensive crown, and I wanted a second opinion. I choose Millhopper specifically because of their late hours (open until 8pm on some nights!) and their availability on Saturday. I saw Dr. McDonald, who was very understanding of my frustration, worked with me in steps to try to correct the recurring problem. She gave me a wide variety of options to try before shelling out lots of money on a crown, although she realistically pointed out that it might be necessary. I felt like my opinion was valued (it is after all, my mouth) and my concerns were taken seriously. I may stick with Millhopper over Tioga because their hours are much more convenient. read more

I spoke to Carly, and she could not have been more friendly and accommodating. My son has definitely found his Gainesville dentist. Our family has gone to Millhopper Family Dentistry for over 32 years and we have been very happy with the service provided. They will bill your BCBS insurance but are very up front that what the insurance pays will not cover the cost of the treatment provided. They have always worked with us on making payments when we have asked to do so. TL;DR Moderate wait time, lovely and clean facility, personable staff and dentist, did not use insurance. Would recommend. I am really pleased to say that I've found my dentist in Gainesville. After a horrible experience elsewhere, the friendly staff and doctors at Millhopper were so refreshing. I went in with what looked like a hole in my gums (obviously in something of a panic) and the dentist was calm, friendly, and very helpful. If you refer someone or are referred yourself, you receive a 50$ credit (which is awesome). The dentist talked to me the whole time - letting me know what was going on - and seemed genuinely interested and professional. Really, just superb bedside manner. I am not a nervous person at the dentist, but I imagine any nerves would be quelled by the competence and concern of the staff. Most complaints seem to be about insurance and billing. Since I paid out of pocket, I can't comment on that. But I will say it was a great experience. I called to make an appointment as a new patient and they were able to schedule me the same day. My wife and I have been going here for a few years now. In addition to our routine cleanings, I've had an old baby tooth extracted here by Dr. Knopf a couple years ago (it was a baby tooth that I had sitting over an adult tooth forever) and that procedures was so pleasant and smooth. We had visited Alachua Family Dentistry for cleanings twice before eventually trying Millhopper Family Dentistry, and we just think the team at Millhopper is a better fit for us. As the others say, stay away like the plague. After being told insurance would cover most of it, got hit with $4,029. Insurance did pay $1,720, leaving me with the remainder. I contested the charges, asking for an itemized bill. Got that, plus a note that if I did not pay immediately, that I would have to pay $3,000 in collection charges. I should have known when the said my daughter needed seven fillings. She sees the dentist every year, and had only needed two fillings up to now. read more

Avoid!! While the dentists seem very competent and friendly, the front office employs shady business practices. I was told on the phone that they accept my BCBS insurance. I turned in my insurance card and filled out paperwork when arriving, yet was not told till AFTER my visit was complete that they actually were not in my network. However, I was assured that it should be minimal out of pocket costs, and to pay an "estimated payment of what is not covered by insurance" of $30. Weeks later, I received a bill totaling $400 for my cleaning and x-rays!!!! When I called to explain my situation (I am a medical student living on loans and honestly thought the services would be covered by my insurance.. Or else I obviously would have gone elsewhere), I was told that it was my own fault for not verifying with BCBS and that while they "accept all insurances," that does not mean they are within the networks. They demonstrated absolutely no empathy and sent me to collections. They came highly recommended by a dental student friend. However, after my experiences, I now tell my large cohort of professional student contacts to NEVER consider Millhopper Family Dentistry. read more

My whole family are patients at Millhopper Family Dentistry. If you like flexible hours, heart-warming assistants, and cordial/down-to-earth Dentists, then this office is for you. I've never had a problem scheduling appointments for the kids after school or on weekends; They pretty much will add you in if there's an open slot. Not only are they overall an exceptional office, their assistants are well-educated and trained. Trust me, I've been to several offices where the assistants don't know SQUAT; but here you see certifications, dipolmas, and liscenses hanging in the office. It's great to know that they value their education. The Dentists here are also extremely gentle while giving the anesthetic, and are GREAT with children. They will walk your child through any procedures to make sure that he/she knows what to expect, because kids do not like surprises. They also have many rewards programs or referral programs that you can benefit from! I don't feel like a patient at all, it's a family environment. I would recommend this office to whomever is in need of a dental practioner. read more
