Their big tortoises and giant iguanas are enough to draw me to this store. Their prices are pretty good. They often have cool animal x's that petsmart doesn't. Skip VIP pets and support a good pet store. They have a good selection of animals and supplies ranging from Oscar fish to rats to macaws to iguanas. The owner is very nice, t uh e guy that is always there is nice but quiet. People who say his rude are wrong I think his just shy. He is the one who owns the big iguanas that run around. Usually buy parakeet food here and some toys for my budgies. Have not purchased a bird from here but I am hoping to soon since the birds are amazingly friendly. Their spray millet is roughly 1.50$ for two pieces. It's probably the highest quality I have seen. If you want to feed your birds I recommend coming here to grocery shop. The place I stopped by and greeted by none but bunch lonely animals; I am currently searching to possibly adopt some animals there. The dogs I saw, I attempt to test the bonding with them but then the employee immediate interrupt and put them back in the cage regeardless if the pets want to spend some time outside the cage or me test the bonding. I am somewhat shock but then proceed to put it aside. I look into chameleon, another employee saw me petting the chameleon for a moment... Yet other employee (old grumpy man) rush grabbing the chameleon off my arm and put it back in the cage without mannerly approach nor friendly greet before gently take it off me and back into the cage. Made me feel unwelcome; spoken with the manager named Geoffrey, his response is more of "shrugs". This is to escalate my decision to putting a review here, that place is capitalism with zero ethnic of pet's needs. if you want to spend few minute with pets at this place, I strongly recommend you to expect the rudeness/disrespectful approaches from this place. The Pet store seems very nice. I was inquiring about a cute little dog, the only one there last Thursday. I spoke with the Woman who is part of the rescue group who manages the rescue pets in there. She was rude, condensing and as much as I love the dog, I was not about to give her $250 for a mutt. Who knows maybe she picked the dog off the street or found it, and is supporting her drug habit. read more

Upon entering the store, I noticed the employees are being aggressively rough on certain customers. The vibes I am getting are uncertain due to mixed reviews below. Literally witnessed the employee (young lady idk her name) being okay with deaf customer petting the chameleon and suddenly another employee rush in and grabbed it off that customer's arm. That's at the point I lost the respect for this store, a coldness approach, carelessly of pets needs (trapped in the freaking cage daily??!), many to name it see but I am not too pleasant with this store.r read more

Best place to get crickets. 1 dollar gives you a shot of crickets which is about 20 large or 30 medium or 30 small. as oppossed to the 12 crickets they actually count out at petco, petsmart, fins and feathers (which is filthy and stinks with a creepy owner who reminds you of the father on kindergarten cop). Other things are pricey too but is reasonable for being a small business in a growing area. To contradict my last statement I bought a cat tree that was originally 125 for 75 dollars, nearly half off. worth a visit especially if you need crickets read more

Owner spoke at my church & had story's about different animals so I went there to get some cat food from local store. Loose animals are cute but trying to come in store without them running out is a little difficult. Asked about a certain cat food was told the manager was not there till tomorrow so I would need to come in find out if they can get the food pay for it then come back again to pick it up. Some of the animals & cages did not look clean. They have bible's up front to give away as part of God's world they should live those books. Plus employees not real thrilled being there would think there would be a more positive example. read more

Really cool store to check out! It was busy when i walked in, but cool to be greeted by a big tortoise! They have a great selection of saltwater fish and corals. Everything seemed alive, healthy and happy. Much better than stores who's saltwater selection looks sad and unhealthy. Looked like they had a good amount of reptiles too, and a lot of cat adoptions going on as well. Definitely a cool place to check out! read more

My experience here is always a little hit and miss. I love the variety of animals and fish they have here. A lot of pets and fish especially that you can't find anywhere else in Yuba City. However...every time I have bought fish here, they have died within a few days. It's not my water that's the problem, I test and change regularly. It might just be that my water is very different from theirs. Their livestock usually look pretty healthy. My biggest issue with this store is the inconsistency of the service. Most times I walk in, hang out for a good while, and leave, without anyone asking if I need help. The only staff that are usually friendly and helpful are Jeff, and one of the guys that's usually in the fish area. Everyone else seems to think they are either above helping a customer, or would rather just hang around talking. Some of the employees give off a very condescending attitude, which is also irritating. I'm giving four stars ONLY because they have a good selection of pets, and because the manager and a very few employees are helpful and nice. read more

I've been in and out of GP for the last month since starting my Biocube aquarium. Geoff Harris is the guy to go to if you're interested in this hobby. He's baby-stepped me along the way without pushing for livestock sale. If anything, he's curbing my enthusiasm for my own wallet sake. I have been going to Gaiser Pets for over four years now, and this store is the only one I have found to be helpful, not stuck up, knowledgeable, and more than anything they go above and beyond to either get what you need, talk in length about tank troubles I have had in the past, or try to give you the best deal that they can. Not to mention that their store carriers such a wide variety of animals...things that no other pet store carriers and all their animals are VERY healthy, that's huge to me. read more

Terrible place! I would never buy a bird from this pet store! I was shocked and I'm an experience parrot owner. The cages are dirty and all their water bowls are filthy. The most pathetic birds were the little Conures whose feathers were in terrible condition. Few if any of the cages identify what kind of birds (or reptiles for that matter) they are. To people who don't like chain pet stores like Petco, Petsmart and prefer "locally owned" pet stores I will say this: At LEAST the chain stores take care of the birds and they have clean cages and water! read more

What a great experience. We had been here a handful of times before, but this time we needed help setting up our son's first salt-water aquarium. The staff(Jeff) was really knowledgeable about what fish were appropriate for our 10 gal tank. Set us up with live rock and salt water (from the tank). My son also had a fun time looking at the fish in the pond, and the turtles that roam the store. I can't believe how sad this makes our family feel knowing that the Cuban iguanas used only for breeding are on "display" in tiny glass cages where they are unable to move around. They cannot lay down without their noses and tails pressed up against the glass walls. They don't have food or water. There is no dirt, sand, or vegetation in these enclosures. Some of the iguanas are housed outside in small wire cages. To keep animals like this is unbelievably cruel and inhumane. The owners of Gaiser Pets are denying these beautiful animals fresh air, food, and water and most of all, quality of life. read more

Great people who care about the animals and really care that you know how to care for them when you get them home. Very helpful staff. Kind and courteous. The employees smile a lot and have fun interacting with each other and the customers. Good atmosphere. I like that this is a private business (and the owner gives away free bibles) and so I am not buying from a big out of town corporation. I would give negative stars.. We got a cat from here and it was diagnosed with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) after they told us they tested for all of that. This is a rare disease but it is also contagious through feces, water bowls, and bedding. We took her to the vet and they said it's basically incurable. This was a little over a year ago. Just recently my friends cat came down with the same symptoms as our cat. His cat also passed away within a few days of noticing the symptoms. He also got his cat from Gaisers. I know of 2 other cats that have been purchased from them and passed away within months of adopting them. I think they need to do some serious testing and cleansing before anyone adopts another animal from them. read more

Love this place. Me and my kids like to go in and just look at all the animals. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Last time we were in there one of the guys went and got a few fish so he could show my kids the way one of the turtles snaps when it eats and then it lays down and you can hardly see it. They have a torttis that they just let roam around the store. Also they let there large iguana's out so you can pet them and they have there larger birds out of the cages sometimes also. Always have to watch where you are walking though. Last time we were in there they had one of there bunny's out and running loose. Have all kinds of animals. I got to Gaisers every 2 weeks to get black worms...Usually adding some fish, corals,or fish and dog supplies...been a customer for over a decade I would assume the bad reviews are from someone that was there once on a real busy day or some unusual circumstances ... As I have always been treated great..I may have to wait for help if the store is busy but oh well, plenty to look at while I am waiting.. The animals are all ways well taken care of. The staff truly care about critters. They try to be helpful on advice but got to cut them some slack they cannot be experts on every type of critter there. No they as good as it gets I am sure there are better pet stores out .. But they are a very very good pet store and I am very thankful to have them in our small town. This business is top notch, Ruth the fact is that they believe in God and hand Bibles out to people who desire them. They NEVER shove there opinions down anyone throat. I have seen many times, those less fortunate, be able to walk in a get a blanket to keep them warm. Their devotion to God has given them a big heart and a giving heart. And if you are a true believer in the Lord God...then you must have started a conversation with them on the subject. For I have never in my 5 yrs of going in to this location had an issue. I feel like three stars is being more then generous. I shop here two to three times a month. They usually have the items I am searching for vs other pet stores in town. My biggest complaint is customer service! I have learned to not just "quickly run in" to this store as there is no such thing as being in and out in 5 minutes. I have had the same cashier EVERY TIME in the last two months and she is forever slow. Also, she has poor manners. She actually asked me (a customer who has never worked there) to press the buzzer behind the counter to notify another associate that there was a call on the phone.... really? All I wanted to do was pay for my items but she was too busy talking to another individual (customer, friend, who knows) that she had to ask a customer to do her job... I find this very unprofessional. I fully support local business' and always try to shop local before chains, but I have decided to order my items online in bulk (much cheaper) and avoid this pet shop. I am very disappointed because in the years past I LOVED this store and hands down would've given them a five star rating but as of lately, TWO Stars is more accurate. read more

I've been going to Gaiser Pets store for 20 yrs or so. I've purchased 95% of my fish there, 1 Chinese green water dragon, and one cockatiel bird there. Both the reptile and bird were hand raised/feed. I've never had any problems with any of the pets I purchased there. I still go into the store once a week to pick up food and other supplies and just to look around. They have an outstanding selection of both reptiles and fish (fresh and Marine), including Koi. And a varying selection of birds, rabbits, cats and dogs. There associates are very helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. If you ask for assistance, which I recommend to anybody with a new pet, they will set you up with everything you need without trying to sell things you do not need even if you think you do need it. And that's pretty rare in retail today! As far as the cats and dogs they are rescue animals, the price includes shots, spaying and other misc, treatments. and the lady who puts them in there is to be commended highly for what she does. My buddy just last week came to her as he has 30+ cats on his property which started out as one stray/feral cat. H had tried contacting several people who couldn"t help including the SPCA who recommended to him to just take them down to the river and release them their. What!!!! Let me clean my ears out! But she offered to help him with them. he didn't expect a miracle, just a little help. Bless her. As you can probably see from this review I think very highly of Gaiser Pets, and I very, very rarely give any place thing etc. a review. But these guys there deserve one from someone whose been going there for awhile. For anyone who might be checking out the reviews, do yourself a favor, stop reading them and go in and check the store out four yourself. The store itself is pretty big and stocked with a lot of different items, but I was really let down by the attitudes of two employees when I was seeking some help on finding a particular item for my pup. I asked two employees who were talking to eachother behind the counter, free from impending duties, if they could help me find a specific brand of dog treats, or something like it, and they pretended they never heard of it. Instead of putting down their conversation and assisting me in a search, they felt it was ok to provide me with one word answers and horrible customer service. One word answers never give me the vibe that the person on the other side actually cares... If you don't carry an item, let me know. But at least try and see what I can do instead for my dog.. I had hoped eventually they would leave the counter and help me out with an easy search, or recommendation, like they were doing for every OTHER customer, but they were satisfied going down the road like that with me. I was left with no other choice but to leave dissatisfied with a can of food since I didn't want my dog to starve and I didn't want anything else to do with GAISER PETS. I wasn't going to be supporting a business that treats customers unacceptably. I am surprised there is such a huge gap in customer service between Sacramento vs. Yuba City. read more

If I could give less than one star I would!!!! They should be shut down immediately! First off it's smells awful, some would say that's what a pet store smells like. NOT TRUE!! If you truly care about animal husbandry it would not smell that way. I've been to elephant enclosures at the zoo that has smelt better! Second the reptiles look under weight and most of them are in cages I would only put them in while I cleaned their regular cages even then I would say my temp cages are bigger. Then they have dogs stuck in small crates that they are trying to sell for ridiculous money because one of the dogs is already 10 months old! The other is several months old and aggressive. Half their reptiles say rescued and in my opinion as well as most people who care about animals opinion every animal needs to be rescued from here. All in all I could go on forever and having managed pet store most of my adult life, this place is what gives pet stores bad names!!! This place will haunt my dreams and I hope they go out of business for the sake of all animals that then wouldn't have to be in this shop! read more
