I will never shop here again. The cashier refused to sell me my groceries because they included alcohol, even after my mother showed her ID. I repeatedly explained that my mother was the one making the purchase and would be paying, yet the cashier continued to ask the same question over and over. Despite our efforts to clarify the situation, she still refused the sale, which became so frustrating that I left the entire cart of groceries behind. This isn't the first time my mother has shown her ID in similar situations, as I often leave my purse in the car. This experience was incredibly upsetting and unacceptable. read more

This review is for Gala Foods Supermarket, used to be C Town. Not to be confused with Gala Fresh Farms on Grand Ave in Baldwin. Gala foods is great for produce but even better for hard to find Caribbean items such as avocado leaves, real Guyanese jerk sauce, fresh goat, and the peppery but sugary ginger beer beer for those fans of the Moscow Mule who can't seem to get get the recipe right when attempting MM at home. I'm not sure whether the Breyer's at 4.99 is a sale or an everyday price, but that is great as well. Now I'm not gonna front and pretend that I know what dried avocado leaves go in and I've yet to attempt cooking pig ears that my buddy's mom used to make make; but it's comforting to know that there's a store where I can find ingredients not typically found in suburban supermarkets. The one down side is if you want those omega 3 or free range eggs you'll have to pay quite a mark up of 8 bucks for 18 Eggland Best which is usually 6 bucks at the non Caribbean markets. Although parking is limiting, there are spaces right adjacent to Gala along Merrick Avenue. I am glad that this place exists. read more

The moral of the story is I go to that location weeklyish to do food shopping for mom.I rarely say never or always..that being said..I ALWAYS HAVE A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE . ALL THE PEOPLE ARE REALLY GREAT. FROM THE GUARD AT THE DOOR TO THE GUYS IN PRODUCE AND THE FOLKS IN THE DELI. I should have known this wasn't a good place since they changed their name. I spent about $140 on Sunday and had to throw out the meat. 2 packs of center cut pork chops were brown after 2 days in the freezer. My husband went to cook the 2 packs of steak which were brown/rotten along with a big ball of steak we bought also. When he had picked out the beef at the store, I told him it was too red. He said it was fresh. I guess this is one of those places that put the red dye to make the meat look good. Hi my Folks, Please be VERY CAREFUL about these supermarkets especially the one which is located on EAST MAIN St., Bridgeport. They usually sell food that is expired and other items. If you buy something that is expired, you will loose your money and time. You won't be able to exchange the item or get back your money like other supermarkets do, since Gala Food's administration will objectify they can't do anything about it because of COVID-19. So be really careful when it comes to spending your money in these Gala Food's supermarkets or at least check the date of any of their products. Also, their prices are ridiculous compared to other places. You can find better deals at Walmart, Stop & Shop, Shop Rite, and even in Big "Y". Just consider this advise. read more

This is the 3rd time I've had problems with this store. 1st time my deliver was just left at my door & I wasn't home (had items that needed to be refrigerated, 2nd time the delivery came 2 hours early & I had items that needed to be refrigerated AGAIN. Today I decided to go in because I just needed 2 items. I was waiting behind 1 guy at customer service & the guy at the counter looked at me, put the closed sign up & walked away! Latin food store. I get my white cheeses and Salvadoran Cream, Harina PAN here from Venezuela and the best lemons every single time. About as good as it gets at South Shore supermarkets. This clean, friendly Latin and American supermarket is first rate and probably has the best and freshest supermarket produce around. Loads of latin and caribbean fruits and veggies along with the regular items plus aisles of latin dairy, spices, arrapas, tortillas, masa selections etc. Meat and frozen food aisles are immaculate with dependable offerings and abundant supplies. Staff and management are super friendly and helpful. Really nice cashiers and "packers" who appear "happy" and motivated. Show me a Waldbaums, King Kullen or Stop and Shop where the manager routinely stands at the exit thanking each customer for coming in and wishing each shopper a Great Day or Evening. Big plus: prices appear to me to be 20 percent less, on average, than bigger chains in swankier communities. Freeport should be proud of this business. read more

This is probably the best variety, best selection of freshest produce at very fair prices you're going to find anywhere in the area. I've stopped at a LOT of "farmstand" type stores, or primarily produce shops, but the quality and prices at Compare Foods cannot be beat. read more

Typical Latin grocery store with everything you need. Im Hispanic and originally from the bronx so I know latin grocery stores. It has everything you need to cook some good latin food. The people that work here are always so happy and eager to help you in anyway possible. Not typical from latin groceries im used to. I have shopped twice at Compare Foods in Middle Island, LI which is not too far from where I live in Ridge, LI. Their products are fantastic and I have found items there which I can't find anywhere else. I recently purchased fresh Atlantic salmon and it was absolutely delicious. The people who work there are extremely nice and very helpful. I am partly disabled so sometimes walking is really hard, but when I feel good I go there. I wished they delivered! read more
