As new customers who recently moved to the area, we shopped at ShopRite in Bethpage twice, and unfortunately, both visits left us disappointed with the checkout experience. During our first visit on a Monday afternoon, the store was fairly busy. When we reached the checkout, the cashier offered no greeting, no communication, and rushed our order through the register. What surprised us most was that there was no assistance with bagging our groceries. Having worked in the supermarket industry myself, I found the lack of customer service and basic courtesy disappointing. We left the store confused about whether customers are expected to bag all of their own groceries, as no one explained the process. Because of that first experience, we assumed this was store policy and were prepared to bag everything ourselves during our second visit. This time, the cashier was somewhat friendlier and at least greeted us, but the checkout process felt very rushed. We had 43 items and were actively bagging our groceries while my wife completed payment. Before we had finished organizing and bagging our purchase, another customer was directed to the checkout lane behind us and began moving our items aside to make room. The customer appeared frustrated, and the situation made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. Once again, there was no assistance from the cashier and no explanation of how customers are expected to manage bagging while the next order is already being processed. What made the experience even more frustrating was observing several employees elsewhere in the store appearing to have free time while customers at the front end were struggling to keep up with the checkout process. If the store's policy is for customers to bag their own groceries, that should be clearly communicated. If it is not the policy, then additional assistance at checkout would greatly improve the customer experience. We understand that retail is challenging and that stores must operate efficiently. However, customer service, communication, and courtesy still matter. Based on our first two visits, the checkout experience felt impersonal, rushed, and unnecessarily stressful. We hope management will review the front-end operation and consider ways to make the checkout process more welcoming and customer-friendly for both new and returning customers. read more

This Shop Rite has convenient parking, excellent sales, and is one of the most immaculate supermarkets that I have seen. I didn't purchase any butcher nor dairy items so cannot comment on those departments. They have unique and ethnic items. There was a single line along the full length of the store at 10:30 am which a patron advised me moves along quickly but the self-checkout line was reasonable. read more

I have been a loyal customer to ShopRite since I was an employee myself at 16, now in my mid 30s. The fact that I was the only person at self check out with less than 20 items and had someone watch me scan my groceries cash out get a scratch off get all the way to my car and then confronted by security about English muffins being scanned. I'm the only one at self check out. You mean to tell me you could not see that I scanned every single one of my items! I will never ever shop at another ShopRite location for the rest of my life. The place is clean and the prices are the cheapest around. They don't go above and beyond for customer service.

I've tried to buy Dominican avocados from this place for two weeks. Each time, the ones at the ShopRite at the Bethpage location were incredible soft indicating that they were rotten inside. A better choice is Food Bazaar in Hempstead. I'll include a photo of the avocados from ShopRite that are clearly discolored and then a photo of the avocados from Food Bazaar that are obviously healthy and green for comparison. A few other items I was looking for was not there either. If you want fresh fruits and vegetables, and a more varied style, other supermarkets in the area are better. Another issue is that the overcharge on some items. This 24 pack of Fancy Feast cost $25.99 in store, while several online stores charge $21-$22. It's a bit crazy that in person cost more than online, but that's how it is at this supermarket. Check the prices of everything and don't buy if they overcharge. I like to go to this Shoprite early in the morning before everything that is on special is gone, this past Sunday 7/6 I got there around 6:30am there were employees on almost every aisle unpacking things. I was looking for 3 packs of seltzer that were on special, I only found one. I left my cart to the side to look at the seltzer's they hadn't unpacked yet. The employee (middle aged white woman with black hair and glasses) was on the other side of the aisle and when I saw her heading towards my cart I went to move it. She asked if the cart was mine, I said yeah while moving it and she said "well move it, people are trying to work here." I told her she didn't have to be rude and she laughed. I don't know if it's the political climate or it's likely that she's just miserable but why are you so angry at 6:30 in the morning? I complained to the manager Joe but he seemed pretty nonchalant about it. I didn't hear any other employees being disrespectful to the white people who were trying to shop around the employees. The ambiance in the store was very uncomfortable, if you don't want people in your way for a second maybe you guys need to restock overnight. The last several weeks the quality of the raw chicken breast's that used to be Bowl and Basket has declined a point where I now have to look elsewhere. The chicken packaging is slimmy where the packages are often stuck together. After touching these packages there is a complete lack of wipes or paper towels. It does not seem very sanitary. This store I know it's closed to home but there are times you come to this location and they don't stock up fast enough. Especially when items are on sale. I prefer the Plainview location. This is a tough one , as I have been shopping here on a regular basis about three times a month for the last three years ( and shopping in this location since Pathmark replaced Pergament's here ....a long time ) ........ To begin with , THE VAST MAJORITY OF EMPLOYEES HERE ARE VERY CONSIDERATE , from the jovial lady cleaning the lavatories to the men and women stocking the shelves and freezers . For a long time employees handling self checkout were exceptionally considerate , and most looked for opportunities to help , and most still are . However , there are always exceptions , and in a large supermarket with a moderate turnover , one is bound to run into those exceptions ; unfortunately , I did so last evening . I did a fair amount of shopping here , 5/22/24 , between 7: 30 and 8:45 , using my little Bethpage Library shopping bag . There was an imperious , shopworn gal I didn't recognize working the self serve line , and she demanded I place all of my 10 items , none of which require weighing , on the scale . Having long experience seeing people place items that had no business there on the scale , I refused , informing the entity that I was a regular customer and never had had such a problem . I refused again , and promised to shop elsewhere in the future ......... Now , at 69 , I have better things to do than steal Tasty Cakes and fruit spread ( it's been about half a century since I've stolen any food item ) . I NOW FEEL UNWELCOME HERE , AND HOPE MANAGEMENT WILL ALLOW THE CONSIDERATE , REGULAR EMPLOYEES WORKING SELF SERVE TO USE THEIR JUDGEMENT WITH REGULAR CUSTOMERS ! ........ All my items were bar coded , and never have I set off an alarm . I will contact Shoprite headquarters to make my views on the cavalier treatment of this senior citizen known ...... This is a ShoutOut to the late night Saturday crew! In a world where it's is super hard to find good employees, hard workers, and people who are just plain nice, ShopRite of Bethpage has all those qualities. I've been doing my food shop here on Saturday nights for a few months now. (I just find it more convenient and it really works for me.) Everyone from the cashiers, to stock people, to cleaners, self-check out monitors, Courtesy Desk, and anyone one else I forgot, just go above and beyond. I have even personally got to know some of them by name and look forward to our weekly conversations. So kudos to these all around hard workers. You all deserve so much than this praise! I enjoy visiting different supermarkets. This ShopRite in Bethpage possesses high quality vegetables. The entire supermarket layed out completely different from others. Soon as you enter you're consume with numerous options of snacks. Follow by the deli. Endless rows of cheese. As you work yourself throughout you'll find Seafood Section., which is my favorite part of my shopping experience. During my shopping experience I noticed well stocked inventory being broken down and place accordingly. Staff members very friendly. read more

Clean Clean Clean! I love how late at night it's basically a deserted wasteland -- my favorite way to shop! The interior is very bright new and large with selections are good and organized enough for me to find things. Produce section was OK but on the smaller side. They don't seem to stock many herbs or loose kale. I could barely find a decent bagged salad the last time it was on sale.. Apart from the aforementioned things, its a typical shoprite. I don't buy seafood here (especially shirmp:avoid) but I will stock up on oats, cheap shredded cheese, skim plus, frozen items and seltzer. Their sales are worthwhile and all of the basics are inexpensive. Large lot in front. Don't go on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Late at night is the right time to head there since they're open till 12am! read more

Went Sunday at 6:30 pm. Half the offers for the week were already out of stock and Sunday is the first day of the weekly sales. Parking lot is dirty with garbage blowing all over it. Entry is dirty. NO ONE WAS AT THE COURTESY COUNTER. When I asked someone to call someone to the counter she said she is on a break. Two people covering the courtesy counter would be good. Costumers should not have to wait 15 minutes for help. Needs a good cleaning and better management. read more

My sons birthday party was yesterday I went on ShopRite Friday to order his favorite cake chocolate strawberry shortcake and I thought that is what I was doing to get. Went there late during the week. Barely anyone in the store at that hour --good time to go. I grabbed roughly two dozen items and went to self-check out. I was immediately ambushed by a zit-faced ugly redhead who angrily told me to get off the register as self-check is for max 20 items. I said I was sorry, I didn't know but there's no line and 9 of these registers are open and it's just me. She frowned and said I should read the sign and must get off the register. LOL--seriously? So, I've been shopping here since they opened, I go for the vegetables. Always went to Plainview , kinda thought this was closer but; not going to shop in Bethpage anymore will go the extra mile due to the place is filthy and smells like rotten chicken. That's why I don't go for meats. The broccoli is always burnt because they throw ice on top, the asparagus is always dried up because they don't put it in water. The onions need to be rotated because they're laying in the same position and are rotting and soft. Not to mention the checkouts, the glass on the scanners are filthy you would think someone would clean them so you can ck out faster in the express lane, I could go on and on but I'm not. not to mention that everybody's so worried about getting sick wearing masks being ridiculous but they shop at this place where it's filthy dirty. Not sure if it's lack of being able to find help or poor management . Needs to be closed power washed and bleached. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way. I usually have a good experience at this store. Since Covid, they have one long line and when you get to the front of the line, you are called to a register similar to the way banks work. I like this system as you actually get out faster. The cashiers are pleasant too. My one gripe is that 2 weeks ago I bought chicken that was a manager's special. When I brought it home and opened it, it smelled rotten, so I took my receipt and went back to the store. The agent had to call a manager to see if she could give me a refund. He said it was okay since I had just bought it but they usually don't give refunds on Manager's specials. Two issues I have: Number one, there was no sign near the chicken that said Manager's specials could not be refunded. Number two, how does a store knowingly put out bad meat at a discount just to get rid of it. This wasn't a manager's special, it was a clearance sale on bad merchandise. They need to take more responsibility as people could get sick. read more

Shoprite is by FAR the best supermarket around..great sale prices helpful employees everywhere to help you always clean and well stocked and they have what no one else seems to have ..Real cashiers to ring you up just like the old days !!! lately the self check-out isn't really a self check-out, because some one with a low IQ decided that the shop rite inclusive police force must scan the items for you, rather than the customer scanning their items themselves. I don't know what this store's issues are regarding thefts, theft prevention, or they're just super paranoid. Some teenage clerk practically mowed me down to get to the scanning machine before I could, when he saw me heading over to one with my cart. He didn't bother to explain what his purpose was or engage me in any way, he just flew over to me like a bat out of hell and took over. So I said being cute "oh, are you going to help me"? I was really being sarcastic, I knew perfectly well why he inserted himself by the scanner. I then said, "well if there's a mistake, then it's on you". I only go to this store when I absolutely must because it is a very hostile place, and the bad energy and intensity oozing from the pores and nostrils from the employees gives me the creeps. read more

I come to this Shop Rite a couple of times a month when I'm in the area for work. It's fairly tolerable by supermarket standards; it's always well stocked, and it has aisles wide enough to maneuver around the geriatric crowds that roam the floors in the early afternoon. While the floors can get a bit congested, I've never had to wait in line for a self-checkout machine, which is remarkably unexpected. The staff members that supervise the self-checkout area always acknowledge me pleasantly as I'm leaving too, which is another huge plus. The parking lot is large, so there's never an issue finding a spot, but I'm not sure how the availability is during busier hours. I'll definitely be back here for more pastries and mouthwash soon. read more
