Happy medium? Share a good crêpe! We found it at Crêperie. SO many choices, many similar to ones we loved in France. Extensive selection, but it didn't take long to decide on the apple-walnut-caramel crêpe to share, costing not much more than 2 ice creams. We watched the lone young man as he poured batter onto the round griddle to just the perfect thinness; as he expertly flipped it; as he loaded on plenty of apple compote, plenty of walnuts, and gently squeezed caramel sauce. Then he folded it into a neat rectangle, scooped it into an exactly the same size pan, flipped the whole thing over onto another griddle and left it to heat while he made a crêpe for the person behind us. At exactly the right moment (was he watching the clock? or maybe he's just THAT good!), he flipped it over, slid the crêpe onto a plate, artistically drizzled more caramel sauce on top and then gently shook some powdered sugar over it. Handed me 2 forks and knives and we sat on stools at the counter for our Sunday afternoon treat! Excellent! They have several savory crêpes (in Paris, those were usually buckwheat crêpes called galettes) and many sweet ones. Unfortunately it's more of a takeout place, with just the few stools at a counter inside, and a couple of small tables outside. Happen to be in Great Neck and accidently came upon a T-Swirl. Heavy construction being done to the sidewalks, the guy just poured the cement sidewalk inches away from T-Swirl. I came across & asked if I can get into the store and he helped me. I ordered the Thai Chicken crepe which for a dollar more came with a drink & a very, very small side salad. The drink was of three choices, I got either the peach or mango ice tea, that I did not like, I spilled it out when I got home, but saved the really strong cup it came in, totally reusable & great cap with opening you can keep closed. The crepe I took a bite of when I got in my vehicle, planned on eating when I got home, but it was so good that I finished it on my 25 minute drive home.
